I lived next door to this park for a year or two and found I developed a real affinity for the place. It don't look like much from the street -- a large disused (at least for footy) oval and a few swings and stuff with a grandstand at one end. It used to be (until quite recently) the home of The East Brunswick Magpies, but the fucked council kicked (boom boom) 'em out.
The oval is a mecca for dog people and footy kickers now. I spent many an arvo kickin' a ball and chuckin' a frisbee and generally getting a bit of fresh air in this place and it really proves to me that public spaces are what you make of them. There are regular dog training sessions and dog related support groups, so if you love dogs, this is a great park.
There were a couple of reports of stabbings and a sexual assault here last year, so probably better not to linger in the shadows after dark (unless you're a rapist or a stabber that is), but my experiences have been purely positive. I love it and miss it now I'm out of the area. read more
