It's a quiet retreat in the back streets of St Kilda and it a great place to walk around or sit for a while, even if you don't have a plot. The park has all the facilities you need for a perfect summer day barbecue. It also has a few historical sites scattered about such as a sculpture of Caption James Cook, and a water fountain installed in 1911 in memory of another designer from the St. Kilda; area Sali. You can often find locals sunbaking, drinking, cooking as well as playing the odd game of football throughout the park. As it is a little more sheltered from the wind than the actual shore of St. Kilda beach, the luscious green grass is a much cleaner alternative for catching some rays than the somewhat dirty sandbank that stretches along St. Kilda to the water. The park has a running track and a great gazebo smack bang in the centre, so grab your friends, take a picnic and enjoy at drink in the park.

The paths crisscrossing it are gravel and sand, so not great for biking. There are Los of benches. Everything is very well-kept and the lake in the middle was such a peaceful juxtaposition to the fast cars on track. There were multiple spots to enter the park and different tram spots that only really got crazy on race day but throughout the rest of the race weekend it didn't get too overwhelming. I loved all the hills and grassy areas. Be sure to bring something to sit on, there's tons of grassy areas but not too many benches etc.

This tucked away football ground has been the life blood and backbone of many communities over the…read moreyears. Strong patronage from the Prahran Football Club and all of their junior teams is testament to how important this ground is to all surrounding suburbs and their residents. Our daughters and son grew up from early years kicking around the old pig skin, and to see them today going through their skills sessions here certainly brings back a lot of memories from the good old days. Many a champion will come through here, and many a friendship has been created here at Toorak Park, where all families are welcome, to share in the BBQ, bar and loads of food on offer! Thanks to Zoe for being the backbone and one of the unsung stalwarts that religiously toils in the kitchen and gets involved.

Lots of business people walking through on their lunch breaks and folks travelling to and from their workplace by foot through the park during peak times. Watch out for bikes speeding through though. Large off-lead area to allow your furry pals to let of some of their steam. Kids playground and toilet facilities within the park... and a majority of the ovals are booked out over the summer months for team sports. Great park to go with friends in summertime for a picnic. Well maintained lawns, etc. Keep an eye out for the cute little possoms at night. x

Anyone for a bit of #dogspotting?…read more I have long confessed that I am a dog stalker. I have been known to take unnecessary detours through Fawkner Park just in case someone's dog wants to come say hi to me. It's such a good park for it. While not fully enclosed like some dog parks, there is substantial tree coverage and the middle sections are not too close to any major intersections - so unless you have a pup known for bolting, safer than most off lead areas. A former employer of mine even holds their Canine Christmas parties here! But dogs aside, this is a nice park and deceptive in size. Hidden away between busy St. Kilda Road and Commercial Road, there are massive divided sections of park here with great walking/cycling tracks through the middle. On a daily basis you'll find people working out, playing soccer, lunching, or teaching their kids how to ride a bike. Plenty of bench seating and shady spots, I've also spent a few hours just hanging around here with friends for a lazy chat in the sun. A nice inner city sanctuary.

On a sunny day it's really nice to get fish and chips or an ice cream and hang out amongst the palm trees. With so many shops, bars and the beach close by, the O'Donnell Gardens appeals to a lot of people who want to have a break from their day and just sit under a tree and read a book. It's very relaxing (despite the continual screams) where it has that central location feel where you see why St Kilda is such a popular area in Melbourne. Great for people watching as well if you get a kick out of that!

A lovely place to sit, soak up the sun and enjoy the beachy feel under one of the many palms, listen to the squeals of delight and fear from Luna Park, and watch as the people and sounds of St Kilda come to life. A lovely place for singles to sit and read a book, or for the romantic to enjoy some quiet time in the heart of Melbourne - St Kilda Beach.
