LOCALLY RAISED WAGYU FOR REASONABLE PRICES! I love grabbing some Kobe or Omi when I am in Japan but…read morethose flights are quite the journey just for a steak. If you're OK having Wagyu raised by Hoosiers instead of a Japanese family, this place will save you a long voyage to the far east. Wayne Fritz raises his cows locally, and is hoping to ramp up to 50 a year to make the economics work out. I was lucky enough to procure 3 Strips today and the meat looks FANTASTIC. The prices are very reasonable for Wagyu, and will accommodate most budgets.

Some of the prices were shocking - $50 for a frozen quiche! Insanity. Onions were $4 a pound! A plastic rocking chair at the entrance was for sale for $410, with no indication that it had been locally manufactured. Other prices seemed like what you would expect from a farmer's market. What I bought: A pint of cherry tomatoes for $5.00. I have not eaten them yet, but they are beautiful and of various colors. A single medium size tomato for $3.00. Three peaches for two dollars. Two of them were completely bland and had to be thrown away. They had no peach flavor at all. All three had bad spots. So I had about one half of a peach for two dollars. 8 ounces of lemonade for $3.25. This felt like a rip off, but I needed a cold drink on a hot day. Two cute little pears for $1.48. This ended up being the best buy. they were perfectly delicious. Very little of what is sold here is organic, which seems to be a statewide problem for grocery stores and farmer's markets in Indiana. The refrigerator had a badly rotten peach and an open can of cat food on the bottom shelf, which gave me serious concerns about the hygiene of this place, as if someone is not paying attention to detail when it comes to cleaning and maintenance.

The "butters" are fruits (apple or peach) that have been pureed before going through their processing. Since they don't have any artificial sugars or pectin, the "butters" may be a little less set than some store bought brands. The "spreads" are jams that are also made with real fruit and come in a wide variety of flavors. (Note: on weekends, you can usually try free samples of the flavors.) The store also has a collection of unique kitchen accessories for sale. But make a point of coming here for the preserves. The flavors are great! Review #850

We got Hawaiian ham and buffalo chicken cold cuts along with the good old fashioned Colby round cheese. They also have assorted homemade salads, fresh bread, and home baked pies. I've heard their homemade cinnamon rolls are the best ever but we found out after the fact so we must return. They have a huge assortment of bulk candies, jams and veggies. We got a beautiful hanging basket on the way out that was less in price than most we'd seen in the Indianapolis nurseries. Even though the Yelp listing for this market says they are closed on Monday they are not. Hope really is a "surprising little town".

In the colder months, they are setup in the downtown farmer's market. I know you can also visit the farm in Martinsville, I have yet to do so. Why... Why is it getting 5 stars and why will I continue? It is good meat. I have bought Chicken, and Beef from them. And, now that Thanksgiving is past, Turkey from them. My family is trying to buy as much organic, non-processed, "real-food" as possible. We had been buying organic chicken from the grocery. But, one day at the farmer's market, my friend said, "try this meat, it is the best." I bought a package of chicken. I was blown away. The meat was still on the bone, but to cut it off was like cutting butter. It sliced so easily (raw or cooked). And there was no - none - null - fat in it. The chicken from the store always seems to have a bit of gristle in the middle. Not this. And the taste - It was juicy and flavorful. So much better. Next I tried the beef - same thing. All grass fed, all great. The man said, if you like this, you should try our turkey. So, this Thanksgiving, we did. Everyone commented how flavorful the turkey was - and all I did was rub butter, salt and pepper with a little rosemary on it. Easy and the best ever turkey! Read the company's website on how they describe themselves as "better than organic." And, if you can, try it out. When my family cooks meat, we want it to be Simpson Family Farm meat!
