In and Out! Just how I like it! I had to come to MLK for a new license plate. I handed the friendly young latina lady at the Welcome counter my renewal letter and within a minute or two she asked if I wanted my registration for 1 yr or 2 yrs. Two years please, she charged me, went to the counter behind her and appeared with a brand new plate and even put the new sticker on the tag for me. Thank you and have a nice day. I took a moment to reflect on my good fortune, took some pictures and was back in the parking lot in less than 10 minutes. Most people were given numbers to wait and be called for service. Adelia at window #3 was so awesome! This was my first time going to a DMV in Florida and the process was so easy. I made the appointment a month ago and was able to be seen and of course the place was jampacked! There was more than a two hour wait for people trying to get their licenses. But who we go to DMV nowadays without an appointment? Lol please make sure you have an appointment and please be nice and courteous to the people working there! They do what they can to the best of their ability and being mean in a rude to them won't help at all. There were three staff members that actually came over and we're laughing with me because I was trying to brighten their day. I really appreciate how hard these people work and please keep in mind. They can't control if the systems go down. Adelia had advised me that the systems were down the day before so I'm so thankful my appointment was for today and not yesterday. Lol. I went here to renew my license. The building was big enough to accommodate the large crowd and without an appointment I waited about an hour to be seen. Considering it was early afternoon when I got there I feel like the wait was what I was expecting. The staff were helpful and seemed to be in good spirits. Had the unfortunate need to visit the local DMV branch on Falkenburg Rd. today. Something as simple as a temporary handicap parking permit which my doctor suggested due to severe problems with right leg, and therefore mobility. Had my section all filled out and signed. Doctor section was all filled out and dated/signed, license number, etc all there. Temp permits are supposed to be good for 6 months. I am hoping I do not need it any longer than that, but tests are still being taken to determine cause. My application was rejected because the Dr. did not state on the form exactly the dates the permit should be good for. Now how the H does my Dr. know exactly what dates I will be infirmed, when they are still trying to determine what is causing the issue???? Only the government can be this moronic. read more

I was pleasantly pleased with the Covid measures taken place at the DMV. It was a bit frustrating to have to take an Appt so far out... a bit over 3 weeks because that was what I could get... But with an Appointment I walked right in they asked for my appointment number checked my temperature and allowed me to walk to the check in counter. I was given a number and waited about 35 minutes for my number to be called. When I got to the window the woman was friendly and quick doing her best to get me in and out quickly so I could go on about my day. I had checked beforehand to make sure what documents I might need and I had no issues. This was a good experience. Everyone I came across was friendly and helpful. read more

Almost 30 yr. old, had to update my driver's license pic. especially since I was 16 yr. old at that time it was taken. Of course, I lost and found it a couple days later... I made my appointment online - showed up a couple min. Late w/proper documents, such as two insurance mail with my name + address, SSN and passport. I still had a 30-40 min. Wait. & estimated wait was 1 hr. + 5 min. The person helping me was positive and helpful. He even asked if I wanted to retake my pic. - I said, no because I was ready to leave. If you're in a rush, recommend giving yourself 1 hr. & 15 min. To be safe especially if you have to be back at work right away. Parking lot is huge and at least you don't have to pay compared to downtown location, which is another reason I preferred scheduling my appointment at this location. read more

Short: Best DMV I've been to. Clean, large, efficient. Probably the one I'd tell everyone to go to when they have to go to the DMV Long: This DMV is great. I came here for a licenses renewal, first time I've been to this place. Honestly, I avoid DMVs if I can, but I couldn't renew online. Came here expecting a dark musky place with low lighting and crowded. Instead, walking in, I was pleasantly surprised. It was large, lots of room, organized, and clean. My wait here wasn't long at all, once I arrived, checked in, took about 10 minutes to get called up. Though, I recommend giving the office a call and ask for the wait time before venturing out here. I was also advise, Monday and Fridays are the worst days to come here. Seems everyone either comes at the beginning or end of the week. Walking in on a Wednesday, along with calling ahead of time to check the wait, kept my trip short. While renewing my license, all the staff were helpful and friendly. Any questions I had, they answered without issue. Come here if you every need to do anything associated with the DMV. read more

Not a bad first experience here. I came here because it was close to my work to get my new drivers license with my new married name. I decided to come in as a walk-in bc there weren't any appointments avail for a few weeks when I called. I got there at 3pm and got my number, waiting 1.5 hours and my number came up. Susanna was the employee who assisted me and she was fairly pleasant (not like the employee at the Social Security Office!) And I was in and out of there in two hours tops which isn't great but not bad I guess. The place appeared to be well run and clean and overall a positive experience. I wish I could include a video as there were 5 people working with the place full. Must be 30 windows to help people but they had 5 open. This is total BS in this day and age. I went with my daughter for her to get a duplicate license, she misplaced her original one. I tried explaining and showing the nasty fall That I had a few days earlier, which I got a nasty contusion and couldn't Stand in the huge line. Typical government office. It took a week to get an appointment. I got to the office ten minutes before my appointment. Walked straight in thinking this was going to be a breeze until I saw the sea of people in chairs all socially distanced. Told the clerk what I was there for and was told the wait was 40 minutes even with an appointment. Sure enough here I sit. Based on the other reviews it appears a 30-40 minute wait is typical. I can't stress this enough.. do yourself a favor and MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. I have waited before (a little over an hour) and left because it's almost as sad as sitting at the Social Security office but less drab. I made an appointment for the next week and was in and out in 10 minutes! It's super efficient if you take advantage of the online check in and using that instead of just 'showing up'. It's a pretty intimidating office when you walk in.. it's like a scary library because you see all these girls just clicking away on the computer and then you see an officer or 2 at the desk. You feel like you're in the airport because there are just seats everywhere to sit.. most of the time you won't get a seat coz those people have been waiting for God only knows how long but as soon as you get going you're in and out. Again... MAKE AN APPOINTMENT or you will be upset if your cell phone isn't charged. YOU WILL make a friend or 10 because someone is going to talk to you forever.. make an appointment. =) read more

I'm very disappointed in my visit. I went to the DMV to renew my license. Made this appointment 3 weeks in advance due to pandemic shutdowns. After arriving and attempting to pass my vision test without glasses, I couldn't read the last line so they told me I could quickly go get my glasses in my car. I triple checked with two people making sure I could come back in if I left and they assured me I was good. 3 minutes later I come in with my glasses and they told me I had to make a line with walk ins, a line that was wrapped around half the building. I knew it wasn't an option for me because I had to work. What upset me is that they gave me the opportunity to get my glasses and then they just skipped me when I left. I was so upset, the officer on duty encouraged me to write a review about it. Just know even with an appointment, you won't be well taken care of here! read more

The front desk still has the old DMV attitude...not helpful and condescending. I went in to get a motorcycle stamp on my driver license and was told I need my citizenship paper...I told her I did not bring that and if there were any other docs that could take that place - she said no. Then I asked what other docs I need to bring and showed her what I brought at which point she told me I could have used my passport as citizenship papers. Just one example of about 3 that showed the attitude here. I've been to several dmvs before and this one is the worst due to experience with the front desk. Went to this location with a bit of hesitation. I was advised to get there as soon as they opened the doors because as we all know for whatever reason it is hell sitting and waiting at ANY DMV. I was the third in line to get a new drivers license and was in and out within 30 minutes. The gentleman that helped me wasn't rude in any way, but it was Monday morning, so he wasn't a talker either. It was all business. I would recommend this location to anyone. It was very clean and the rest of the staff seemed very friendly. Definitely get there at 08 if you don't want to wait! Oh and prepare to park in the garage across the street, because, well it's downtown and you are going to have a hard time finding street parking! Good luck. You won't have any problems if you got to their site and do a little research on what documents you will need. flhsmv.gov For example to transfer an out of state license to FL you will need your birth cert, social security card, two proofs of address (I took my rental lease and my electric bill) and of course your old drivers license. However, if you don't schedule an appointment here, you will wait forever to be seen. I've been here twice in one week, and I waited two and a half hours the first time and I am currently still waiting after three and a half hours, and it closes in 57 minutes. Drivers license renewal: I made an appointment online a month in advance. I checked in at the self service kiosk. By the time I found a chair to sit down in, they were calling my number over the intercom. I presented my documents, answered a few questions, took a photo (you get only two takes) and did a brief eye exam. Then I paid and picked up my new license. I would advise you not to go to this location for any reason. The humans who work here (if they indeed really are human at all) are extremely rude even when you treat them kindly and with respect. It's not like anyone WANTS to go to the DMV, unfortunately we all have to upon occasion and it seems the angry and hateful employees here wish to cause an exorbitant amount of strife and misery on top of the already expected long wait times. The main problem I had at this location is that when I originally got in line to get a license plate and car registration for a new vehicle I purchased I should have immediately been told I was lacking something necessary to complete this process. I was asked several questions by a man at the front desk but he was in such a rush to get through the line and hand out numbers that I wound up waiting 2 hours just to be told I had to come back with more information. I am not sure if this man was just being lazy or if he just hates his job and himself so much that he just wishes to make everyone else around him equally as miserable, at any rate I wasted several hours of my day and was treated like a convicted felon for no good reason at all.
