If Yelp would let me rate this business with less than one star, I wouldn't leave any. Our experience and opinions of the business based on our experience are as follows: We went in to the business with two cabinet doors to get six panes of glass cut to fit. The cabinet doors had recessed areas with rounded corners for the glass. We asked if they could cut the glass and round the corners to fit and we were told "Yes" they could. We also asked if it could be done that day and were again told "Yes." My mother left her name and number so they could call us once the project was complete. The first irritant was that my mother had to call several times to find out what was going on and nail down when the project would be done. On the final call she made, she was told the doors were done. Again, the call SHE made. They neglected to call us like they said they would once the project was complete. We traveled into town to get the doors and as we looked over the work, we were angered yet again. The glass fit in the recesses but that was all that could be considered decent about the work. The corners had been cut straight, not rounded as they said they could and would do. Some of the glass was cut smaller than the recesses leaving gaps around the edges. And the glass was utterly filthy. They hadn't even bothered to clean them up before we came to pick them up. Then, the man that did the "work" (who wasn't even the man who owns the business, it was his son) copped an attitude with us when we brought the issues to his attention. He told us he'd "sat there for an hour cutting the glass" and that he "wasn't doing it again." Then he asked us if "anyone was going to see it from that side." What does that even matter? That has little to do with the fact that the workmanship was shoddy. It's a very good thing the glass wasn't going on the front of the doors. Then we were told, quite rudely, that if we didn't like the glass panels we "didn't have to take them" and again that he "wasn't doing it again." We shouldn't have taken them. We should have left the sub-par glass with it's sub-par cuts there, but as we had no other options available to get glass cut, we were forced to pay for the shoddy work which, in turn, rewarded the man's rudeness. It seems to me that he was more interested in the "Freedom Firearms" shop they also run (which we'll also never set foot in due to this experience) instead of doing his job in the glass portion of the business. What we should have done was buy panes of glass at EBS for half the price and attempt to cut them ourselves. We probably could have done a better job at it even without any glass cutting experience whatsoever. It's appalling that someone running a business can do such poor work and treat customers, especially first time customers, so abhorrently. My mother and I will NEVER visit Machias Glassworks again and would strongly recommend others avoid them as well, if at all possible. You'd probably be better off cutting glass yourself. In my opinion, they don't care much about the work they do and care even less about their customers.
