First off, this gym is open 24 hours which makes it extremely accessible for someone like me who…read moreworks late shifts sometimes. I signed up for the gym's "ultimate membership" which includes: -Towels -Hot Yoga -Tanning -Free holds for up to 6 months per year -Family discount rates available -and best of all, access to all clubs + bringing a friend in for free 2x a month! I like the facility at Northroad because it is very spacious (larger than the metrotown location) and it never gets over crowded. There are multiple cardio machines + weights so I have never had to wait for my turn. There are also 4 full body massage chairs so you can relax and chill out before you leave the gym! Lots of water fountains all around the gym so you can easily re-fill your water bottle and stay hydrated! There is also a water/sports beverage vending machine in case you need it. There are grocery stores and a shopper's drug mart right downstairs so sometimes I even do my grocery shopping in the same trip to the gym (such a time saver). The salesperson was not overly pushy on selling membership and each staff member I've encountered at the front desk are really friendly and greet me whenever I enter the gym; they'll say things like "have a great workout!" which is always nice :) The showers are clean and there is shampoo/conditioner/body lotion/hair dryers/hair straighteners/curling wands available in the women's washroom- which I thought was super thoughtful. As for the classes, I've been to the Zumba classes and they are always packed and high energy. Nonetheless, the dance studio is very spacious so it is still always possible to secure a spot in the class. Another bonus is the free 3 hour parking, and there is plenty of parking available so no need to worry about being late to a group class due to having to spend 20 minutes looking for a parking space... The one thing I wish they would improve is the lighting on the "women's only side". When I go at night (after 8pm), there are areas beside the windows that are poorly lit and makes the room seem kind of dark and gloomy. The women's only exercise area has TONS of TV screens...but I like to browse my own Youtube videos on my phone during my workout instead- did I mention they have free WIFI? (Note that the metrotown location DOES NOT).

Long time member. Gym is very spacious with lots of equipment. Also well maintained. All I can ask…read morefor.

I tried the gym for 5 days (free pass). My goal is to look for a gym close to my home that has good…read morelegs and glutes machines/weights. I already have a gym membership near my work so I'm just looking for another one to supplement. The gym entrance and exit points are kind of odd and also it feels like a basement when walking in. The manager at the gym, Chris Tsao, is super nice. He personally showed me around the gum and made sure I have all my questions answered. The gym has 2 areas: 1) the reception area with some cardio and pin-loaded weight machines, some free weights and access to the pool, sauna and steam. The cardio machines tend to sit closer to the TV. 2) Walk back out of to the main hallway and down the hall to the bigger area. This area is where all the racks, plate-loaded machines, bigger dual cable machines are located. It is also where they have TRX and sled section, fitness class section, and a tanning room. It looks like they also have access to acupunct upure and RMT on certain days (extra fee). Both sides have their own change room. As my main goal is to look for mostly leg and glutes machines, I noticed that they do not have: - GHR machine - Sitting leg press - Hip thrust machine - Abductor machine - Air conditioning (may be a problem in the summer) What they do have is: - 2 Rogue squat racks (one of them should be swapped with the Smith machines as not as many people use it) - 2 Smith machines - 1 older squat rack - 2 reverse hack squats - 1 hack squat - 1 DL platform - 2 or 3 BB benches - Tons of plate-loaded upper body machines - 2 or 3 cable cross over machines Please note that the gym equipment are all older models (think 70's/80's). All the machines function properly and you will have no problem building that body. The sanitary squeeze bottle is by the paper towels for equipment wipe down. The gym has cubby holes for your stuff or lockers in change rooms if you being your own lock. The few days that I was there I didn't have to wait for any equipment, but I always went early in the morning so I can't tell you how busy it is at peak hours. I was told the initial start up fee is $69 (includes 1st month free), and then it's $40 per month with no long contracts, just a minimum 3 month commitment.  There is free 3 hour parking for the members. Unfortunately, this gym doesn't have the equipment that I need and for that, I am out.

My favourite day of the week is LEG DAY...so this is perfect given that i murk my legs each workout..thanks to this gym. My husband and I always visit when we are back in town and to be honest - anywhere we go we try to find a gym just like this one. Not crowded, tons of machines.. and people who are there to WORK OUT. . . I miss ultimate fitness and cant wait to go back once i return from ATL. :) Yeah this gym is expensive, but i rather pay $$ for a gym that has equipment and space than pay 10$ at steve nashs for a shitty gym with bunch of idiots. I hate because i have been there and its nothing but a creep sesh for bunch of roided monkeys. OBVIOUSLY, i rather shell out money for a good place where i know people are there to workout and not creep or chit chat. This is a raw gym - and its good for people looking to gain mass and strength. If you are looking for tvs on treadmills, or if you want some attention then THIS is NOT the gym for you. =) A++++++

They turned a massive warehouse into a workout mecca. There is a massive gym space filled with free weights and machines. In the back o the main floor, they have a whole section for legs. In the front when you first walk in, there is a big section of cardio machines. They have a big screen TV to watch as you do your workout. The gym is fully secure as well. You have to use a key card to enter the fitness area. The locker rooms are fully secure with a shower and private washroom facilities. There is an upstairs section that divides into an ab and stretch area. There is a full boxing area and dance/aerobics/yoga area too. Also, behind closed doors is a woman's only section. I personally don't know what's in there, but I bet it's hot! Sorry... They hve good kids working at the front desk who will cook you an after workout meal or make you a shake. Good place to train. Check it out as a member or a drop in for $5.

Quality Business Practices Lacking Small neighbourhood gym,…read moreequipment OK, pleasant staff, reasonable prices. But, if you join, ask lots of questions. I encountered three problems. First, I was told when I joined I could use the gym during unstaffed hours with my fob. My fob wouldn't work several times and each time I asked about this, I was told the problem was fixed. Finally I was told I couldn't have access during unstaffed hours as I paid for my membership in cash. That's fine but I should have been told this when I first joined. The second problem occurred when I suspended my membership ($10 charge) for three months. This gym, like many, charges an additional fee twice a year. This fee fell within the three month suspension. I wasn't told that the suspension only applies to the monthly fees, not the semi-annual fees. Imagine my shock when the amount owing after the suspension had ended included the semi-annual fee. I said this fee should be waved since I wasn't informed and I would have terminated my membership rather than just suspended it had I known. The fee was not waved. The final problem was that after the three-month suspension was over, my account started to accrue charges again. With the stress of COVID, I miscalculated the date my membership resumed. When I did ask about my membership, I already owed some fees. A courtesy phone call or automated email to inform members that their membership fees had started again would be good customer service. I don't recommend this gym based on my experience.

The good? Pretty empty, even during peak hours. This is likely due to all the bad I'll list below…read more The bad? Outdated equipment, a large amount of which is usually broken. Pretty unsanitary facility, the water tastes like there's mold in the lines, the front desk staff are usually pretty good, but anybody operating the rest of their customer service issues are rude, unhelpful, and ultimately just want to charge you for any fee they can. The price is very high for what you're getting. The classic gym that just wants you to sign a contract, and then bill you any and every chance they get. Their system repeatedly said my payment had declined (spoke with Visa, they had no part in this, and I am never even close to my limit, nor do I have this experience with the other dozen auto payments I have on my card). Repeatedly tried to resolve this with them, to no avail. To cancel? More fees, late charges, and additional membership payments due to their "policies". If you want to hit some barbell movements during peak hours, it's an alright gym. If you want a remotely positive experience, in absolutely any way, do NOT go to this gym.

If you want a place for a mindful and connected yoga practice, this is not it. It is more yoga-inspired than actual yoga. They blare music, even during their "relaxation class" and care more about speed etc. then breath and mindfulness. Occasionally I modify their movements for my own needs (I see no need for lifting weights etc. in my yoga practice) and have been chastised for this. During a recent practice the instructor openly made fun of me in class in front of the others, shaming my movement and fitness, it was really shocking. After this happened a number of times I finally asked her quietly "why does it matter if I modify this pose for my needs?" and she spoke loudly for the rest of the class to hear "I'm not responsible if you hurt yourself". I was at zero risk of hurting myself (I'm a former ballet teacher!) and even if I did follow her movement exactly she still wouldn't be responsible for any injury.... that is why we sign liability waivers! It was a humiliating and uncalled for experience. Sadly, this is the only studio near me now and so I will continue to attend to keep active. But will avoid the above teacher in the future. Bottom line, if you want a great hot yoga practice and have the ability to travel a bit, it is worth your time to go to your nearest Moksha/Modo studio.
