My dad and I have fished the San Juan for more than 25 years now but have never done a float trip…read more We researched the guides in the area and eventually chose Elite Fly Fishing. What a wonderful choice that was! Dave and his team know this river! My dad and I were in one boat and friends were in another and we were hooked up with fish all day! I'm talking arms sore at the end of the day from catching so many fish! And a number of them were 20+ inches! But let me tell you more about Dave and the kind of guy he is. The first day we were on the river we were wading in the Texas Hole. Dave was rowing by me as I landed a pretty nice fish and offered to snap some pictures for me. At this time he and I had never met or even talked. I am not a big photo taker so I politely declined and released the fish. He asked what I was using. I told him what I had on and he asked if I had the fly they were using. I had never heard of it. He was already past me at this time but when he drifted past me about 15 minutes later (the Texas Hole is one large loop up and down the river) he pulled up to me and gave me a couple of his flies. We chatted for a minute or two before my dad, who had booked our float trip with Dave for later in the week, recognized him from videos he had watched. Crazy that we were chatting having no idea we were his clients a couple days later. I've never had a guide pull his boat over on the river to hand a complete stranger some flies that were catching fish. This tells me that Dave is a guide that cares about everyone on the river and likes to see everyone catch fish and have fun. I highly recommend Elite Fly Fishing and their guides. We will definitely be booking more float trips with Dave and his crew every time we head out to the San Juan!

This type of fishin is new to me...and after spending the entire day with him and listening too all the little tips and advice, it just made the whole experience all that much better. Of course, catching over a dozen nice fish didn't hurt either :). Everyone up there was extremely friendly, helpful and professional - nothing short of genuine to be honest. Can't wait to go back up there - especially after Don pointing out some great areas to wade as well. Something else worth noting - we ran into other guides as well and they too were all friendly and courteous to each other and their fishermen. Why have a waited so long to come up here and enjoy this???

Called the fly shop to make reservations for two guides with two boats to fly fish below the Navajo dam. We ended up with two top notch guides with their boats. They had gear for us to use if we chose to go that route. Highly recommended! I would do this adventure again in a heart beat! (Normally I like going fly fishing out in the stream with out a boat.)

I believe they are one of a few various guides that partner with Abe's however according to the guide himself, he highly recommended many of the other guides up there. I had Don for the day and he was great. I didn't just have a great fishing experience but I also had a great time on the river with him as a person too! When you thunk about it, sitting in a small body with someone for 7 hours isn't necessarily an easy surefire good time...there's lots of variables and potential uncomfortable circumstances. That said, Don made this entire day a simple joy. From his patience to my fly fishing "green-ness" to supplying a delicious lunch, to his warm/friendly companionship, it was just a great day I'll have a hard to forgetting! I learned a ton / albeit mostly beginner stuff but stuff I definitely needed to learn none the less. And, one must note - I never thought about work crap the entire time we were fishing...not once I swear! So...mission accomplished!! I would highly recommend "born and raised" as a guide, especially if it's your first time on the San Juan (as it was for me) and/or if you're simply new to fly fishing or even if you're already an experienced angler. You won't be disappointed - trust me!! Thank you Ron!!

I NEVER left the table hungry, if I did, it would have been my fault. The fishing and guides were superior. Equipment was first rate and river knowledge was second to none.
