I came across a few people walking with their dogs. All dogs MUST be on a lease. Really enjoyed the scenery and the water from the river and lake was calming and peaceful.

A mom-of-two's (a toddler and preschooler) straight-forward review -…read more Pros: 1) There are two sections - one for younger children with a ginormous boat equipped with small slides and one for older children with zipline, climbing cargo nets, swings, and steep slides. 2) The playground is tucked away in a residential area and was not crowded or busy during our visit. 3) Space is vast with plenty of room for children to run about and expense their energy. Cons: 1) It's hard to find a single complaint...but I guess if I had to name one, there are plenty of parking but they are not close to the playground. Then again, the purpose to visit a playground isn't merely for children to have fun, but it is also an opportunity for adults to collect vitamin D and log some steps!

There were many toys that made noises, rocking horses, a large green dome with holes, and a smaller playground with slides. They are still fundraising to build a playground for children 5-12 years old. Once that playground is built I'm sure it will be even more of a hit for families. That said there are features that the 5-12 year olds will like! Two large slides, an obstacle to climb on, and a glider swing. There are also several walking trails. My son loved this park! Plenty of spots for strollers and they have larger porta potti's. To name a few items, there is a sandbox, rocking boat, lemonade stand, small slides, firetruck with pull-up bar, and merry-go-around. 2) The other section is situated along Clarendon Hills Road and it is for older children. It is a large playground with steep slides, tall monkey bars, corkscrew climbers, rock climbing wall, swing sets, and spiralizing ladders. Even though this section is meant for older children, there is a small section for young toddlers that has short slides and ladybug and bumblebee rides. 3) There are plenty of parking for both sections and the both parking lots are close to the playgrounds. 4) There are tennis courts nearby which works out perfectly for our preschooler to have a small tennis session with her daddy before going to the playgrounds. Cons: 1) Both playgrounds can get crowded on the weekends. However, it is close to the library. On a hot, summery day, it is easy to just go across the street and freshen up at the library.

Chicago I will always love you!…read more We have some of the most amazing conferences, festivals and shows. In my opinion, absolutely no other city can touch our food scene! Panda Fest had Chicago show up. I told myself to leave early. I know better. My bed held me hostage. When I arrived at 10:15a for my 10:00a timed entrance ticket, the line was wrapped around the block. I don't mind waiting in line for food. The line seemed to move along nicely or I could have been distracted talking to others in line. Either way, it was organized. The smells were amazing. I skipped breakfast in preparation for this. Once at the front, people are yelling to have your tickets visible on your phones and your bags open. Then you are handed a Chicago panda bear pin wearing a Cubs hat, holding a Chicago pizza slice. So cute. Then you are directed to the headband station, a panda bear with a Chicago pizza slice. So cute. Now for the food. My belly was like, "let's go"! My plan was two sweet, two savory and two drinks. I just kept eating. Lol. I had wagyu skewers topped with soy, garlic and onion sauce. Pork and beef dumplings with chili crisp. Lamb skewer with spicy chili powder. Spam musubi, a teriyaki meat pie. Purple yam ice cream, tanghulu, (candied fresh fruit). Passion fruit flavored sugar cane drink. Loved it! Coconut water vanilla ice cream drink. Everything that I ate, I really enjoyed. Belly full. There are plenty of children's activities; face painting, games and inflatables. So bring your babies. Definitely family friendly.

What interested me about Brookfield Woods compared to the other trailheads nearby is that it is the mile marker starting point for the Salt Creek Trail System. As an outdoor fitness enthusiast who has been running for years, I would categorize the difficulty level as easy because the terrain is flat! I encountered mostly walkers, a few joggers, and many recreational bike riders along this path. While on it I felt that peaceful sense of being in nature as I heard birds chirping, the wind blowing, and the sound of the flowing salt creek which was off to my left while going out. I even got glimpses of chipmunk and squirrel running across my path; some even startling me at times when close by which also kept me in the moment during my hike. On my turnaround, I encountered a Canadian goose which I am absolutely terrified of! I am even known to alter my run routes just to avoid them out of fear of being attacked! It hissed at me as I went around it; it is like it instantly got its little goose panties in a bunch. I swear my heart rate increased as I eased by it because the last thing I wanted to experience was getting my ass kicked by a Canadian goose. That is a losing situation that I am unsure how I will bounce back from, but bye bye goose! I spent a little over forty-minutes during my hike on the path but could have easily gone longer if I were running instead. There are a variety of activities you can conduct on the Salt Creek Trail System path which extends 7.1 miles out; some of those activities I can certainly see are hiking, running, walking, biking, or even in-line skating. Other than my encounter with the Canadian goose, I had a pleasant experience on the Salt Creek Trail System as indicated in this review and would return. As a runner, I can see myself returning just to explore more of the Salt Creek Trail System. ~An adventure a day keeps the doctor away. ~ Thomas G
