Much of the food is donated by local stores or restaurants. They get a ton of stuff into their warehouse. They always go through the daily protocol in the big conference room. You are to wear gloves and a hair cover and beard cover for those with facial hairs. Now you can add a face mask to the attire too. You start the event work around 9am and work until 11am to noon. The warehouse job is the hardest. I have sorted through some rough looking potatoes, to water logged and decrepit looking cucumbers and tomatoes. It makes you really appreciate the foods we can easily pick through at the grocery store to get the most appealing ones. Any sign of mold gets tossed. This is the hardest of the jobs, but also the most rewarding since it's labor intensive too. I have also had the pleasure of assembling sandwiches in the kitchen too, with wheat squares of bread, some meat like slices of pork meat of some sort and cheese too. Volunteering your time and energy is greatly rewarding and so helpful to those in need. This is a great center that gives back ro the community. At the end of your day, they will brief you on how many bags or boxes of food were boxed that day. It's the only day big the original big 3 OEMs groups can collaborate and work together side by side without any intellectual property issues too.

Lighthouse - Stopped back in today for paperwork. Got to snap a pic.

Never thought I'd be writing this review, but here I am. Right after Christmas 2015 my amazing…read morechild support accountant husband sprung the pre-planned the divorce of his dreams on me with a 5 y/o and a 2 month old baby in life-tow. No recourse on the marriage front there (thank GOD, in hindsight), so moved out with the kiddos into a great, safe new place. Fast forward to today, 5 days before needing to make the other half of the rent and being down to 2 diapers with no support in sight, I decided to call OHLSA, a community service agency in Pontiac, to see if they had a free diaper program. Left a couple of voicemails with no call back thus far. I then gave Lighthouse a try as I volunteered for them for a short spell way back when. Being in Waterford now, I decided to try their Clarkston location. Wow, they saved the day and then some! After their intake process, I not only got some diapers and wipes to tide me over for a handful of days, but unexpected bags of food, veggies, and some toiletries that will totally give me some peace of mind for a week or two while I figure things out. The big container of chocolate chip cookies they included put a big smile on my 5 y/o's face and they had an overflow of breads, rolls, and bagels that on racks that they said I could readily help myself as much as I wanted to. I took a few extra to freeze for the time being. Totally amazing and highly unexpected. When I got home, inside one of the bags I even found a note that said: "May God Bless and keep you". *big heart squeeze* I recall attending an appreciation event of some sort they invited me to where the CEO got up and spoke and he seemed like a really genuine, caring guy. Huel Perkins from Fox13 and his wife were even in attendance. Anyway, this place walks their talk. I know everyone I was interacting with at the Pontiac location was very nice. I just wanted to give a shout out to Lighthouse in general so that the public knows what they are all about. They give out what they can based on donations, right down to deodorant, shampoo, and toilet paper. They require some official information to be an ongoing client, but are a little flexible if you are a 1st timer in hyper-need of some essentials. I did not have the social security cards they requested, but they still helped me out on a 1st time emergency service basis with the rest of the info I had. No judging, no stool/lamp questioning action, just HELP. I'm keeping it moving (don't cry for me Argentina, seriously), but if you're looking for a local community organization to support, Lighthouse rocks it out. A heartfelt thanks to the lovely ladies there today for treating me and my kids so nice.
