This large office goes the extra mile to find out what ails you. Dr Christopher Smith and team ran all kinds of test and over some time improved my issue. They do quality work here. Most of work is done in house and they will refer you out as well. The only issue I found is the wait time can be long and waiting area can get real crowded. This is what you should expect if you decide to become a patient here! Long wait times, backed up automated phone scheduling, over crowded waiting rooms, doctors consistently running 1-2 hours behind schedule backing up all scheduled patients (but they don't notify you of this until you arrive for your appointment) , nonexistent coordination with other medical facilities (especially the VA) to get authorizations and medical records, and if you must cancel an appointment you might wait 5-6 months to get another one. And this is just my personal experience in dealing with them over the past several months. Most fast food restaurants on a bad day are ran better than this clown show on a good day. IMO, no matter how good the doctors are, it's not worth all the wasted time and effort you are going to spend to get in front of a doctor for a few minutes. If you have other options use them, if you value your time and sanity. Your experience can't get much worse than using these guys. read more

My experience with AGAVNP Patrick Bucayu was deeply disappointing. He was dismissive and showed little patience when I asked questions about my care. Instead of answering me respectfully, he spoke down to me throughout the visit. I am currently dealing with kidney stones and expected at least some compassion. Instead, I was told to focus on prevention with no empathy for what I'm currently experiencing. He also assumed I don't drink enough water, which is not true. I hydrate consistently every day. Patients deserve to be treated with dignity and have their questions welcomed, not shut down. read more

I was suffering from urine retention due to deadened bladder nerves. The doctor, Dr. Goodwin, did nothing about it. Even the assistants knew something should have been done about it because of the severity of what I was retaining and couldn't even feel it. I got a 2nd opinion from another urologist who immediately put me on self-cath. The time not self-cathing due to 1st Urology's doctor's negligence damaged my kidneys. I would die before I ever go to 1st Urology again. Which is ironic, because if I had continued to go to 1st Urology, I very well could have died from kidney failure, anyway. You do the math. Also, to add insult to injury, I was rushed through the process to get me to get an implant installed. A $40,000 dollar mistake had I gone through with it. It wouldn't have even fixed my issue as was diagnosed and treated by my 2nd opinion Dr. I honestly believe that the 1st Urology doctors get thousands in kickbacks from the implant companies. I concur with the low ratings of the organization and efficiency of the scheduling and office visits that others have posted - they are the worst I've seen! The technicians administering the treatments for bladder cancer were on the other hand very good. However, I would not let Dr Christopher Smith take my blood pressure. If you see him coming - RUN !! I have finally done just that and am being treated by a professional/efficient and caring crew in a nearby city. It's an hour and a half drive each way, but you'll probably wait that long in the waiting room of First Urology anyway. Well.. I have joined the kidney stone club. I've been in some of the worse pain in my life the last 2 days. Thanks to First Urology and Dr Richard Medley, it's removed. Now I'm in recovery. July 4th Holiday and the only Dr capable of doing this in our area was Dr Medley.. everyone else was out on Holiday. He was able to get me in on a tight schedule. He was definitely my hero this weekend. Also wanted to thank UL SOUTH hospital for taking care of me on July 4th and Clark Memorial Hospital for my second ER visit and for the lithotripsy procedure. First Urology needs to be broken up, they are a monopoly. There is nowhere else to go. Jurige will ask you how you are doing and walk out of the room while you're talking to you. He fudges my PSA. I know that because I get a physical every year and it's very good. I switched to Becker and the nurse came in after making me wait 30 minutes and told me he didn't need to see me. WTF, then why am I here? Don't waste your time. I know a Dentist and he suspected that he had cancer and they told him he didn't. He did a self examination, turned out he was right. Does not listen to patient, orders a test that was done at Louisville Surgery Center on a Friday at 4:00, then rushes through the procedure and messes up, no apology, no bedside manners at all. Wouldn't call me back either. I guess he thinks he is above us patients!! Horrible!! Don't go to Louisville Surgery Center either. They charge outrageous prices and do not let you know ahead of time your portion so you can decide whether or not to have the procedure. In April 2023 I underwent the aquablation procedure to address my enlarged prostate. The aquablation did not go well. I was told I experienced "light anesthesia" which enabled me to move during the procedure resulting in the robotic arm cutting where it should not have. For almost a full year following aquablation, my urological situation was a mess. Following the procedure I initially experienced intense pain and eventually, over a period of months, it was eventually reduced to moderate pain which never went away. I also struggled with urgency early on and frequency throughout my "recovery". In sum, my quality of life following the procedure was worse than it had been prior to the aquablation. After almost a year of this, I obtained a second medical opinion from UofL Urology. The UofL doctor advised that had I not told him that I had had prostate surgery, he would not have suspected it given the massive size of my prostate. He referred me to a urologist with Vanderbilt Health in Nashville as he felt I required further surgical intervention (the Vanderbilt urologist specialized in the HoLEP procedure). The urologist at Vanderbilt performed a cystoscopy and also advised me I had a massive prostate and the prostate tissue was actually extending into my bladder and causing a partial obstruction (ball valve obstruction). I had a HoLEP procedure at Vanderbilt in February 2024. The HoLEP procedure was wonderfully successful. Since that time I have never experienced any pain when urinating, and I have exceptional flow. My urological health has been restored. I dealt with First Urology for many years and was satisfied with their non-surgical care. However, I hope your surgical experience with First Urology will be much better than mine. Alan G. read more

I have never experienced anything like the level of incompetence as I have experienced at First Urology. The actual treatment may be good. It's hard to tell. I had a lithotripsy procedure last year and had set an appointment for a 6 month follow up. When I was ready to go to my appointment I received a call from F.U. and was asked to set an appointment. I mentioned that I already had one and was planning to leave shortly. "Oh, that appointment was cancelled" was their reply. I had not been notified of that cancellation. So, we set another appointment for approximately 2 weeks later. I received a call telling me that appointment had to be cancelled. I was asked if I could do a virtual appointment the next week at 8:45 a.m. and I agreed to do that . I waited at my phone for notification, and waited and waited until I could wait no more. I went to work and I happed to be in noisy environment and missed the call which came in an hour and a half later. After cooling down a bit I called and expressed that I was running out of patience and I was asked if I would be willing to see a different doctor and I agreed and we set an appointment for the next week. I did go to that appointment and the doctor felt that I should have a cystoscopy. I set an appointment before I left and was told it would be at a surgical building in downtown Louisville. And of course, as I should have expected, they had no idea who I was and F.U. had failed to let them in on the plan. I am now done. I have been in pain for months. I will be going to U of L Urology and hopefully they have a clue. read more

This place is the worst I've ever experience in my 45 years of life. I had an appointment in June 2024 that was cancelled by FU. They rescheduled it for two days later at a certain time and arrived at that time. They told me at the front desk I was an hour late even though they told me this was the time and date. I was told since they were all booked up for that day I would need to reschedule again for late Sept. I rescheduled and after arriving on that day, I was told at the front desk they didn't have me scheduled for that day and would need to reschedule again. Sever pain led to ER visit and discovery of kidney stone blocking kidney to bladder. Sent home & call for appointment with 1stUrology. Multiple calls, messages left never answered. 2 days later back to ER completely blocked. 1stUrology DR admitted me and placed a stent, did not remove stone. PMC called and 2 days later to PMC for 1st Urology to remove stent and stone. Sent home & call for appointment with 1stUrology. Multiple calls, messages left, finally found a human who would callback with followup appt, but they never called. 24 hrs later 103 fever, back to ER. 3 days in the hospital waiting for culture to find out what infection was psuedomonas pyelonephritis. calls for followup again no answer. finally stayed on the line for 1hour 45 minutes before someone picked up. Transferred twice, again, will call back with followup appt, no answer. These people failed to treat me properly, AND used contaminated equipment costing me 3 days in hospital in fear of kidney damage. If ever referred to 1st urology, DON"T DO IT!!! Find someone else even if it means leaving Louisville metro area. read more

I had two separate appointments with Dr. Eifler and did not see him either time. I was handed off to nurse practitioners both times. My last visit I waited 90 minutes before talking to a nurse practitioner, Stacy Karem. What she told me was summarized in less than 20 seconds and could have been handled with a short phone call. I waited 90 minutes for 20 seconds of information. I voiced my frustration and lack of respect for my time. Stacy showed very little empathy and gave a half hearted apology. I asked if I should expect to block 2-3 hours from my calendar for any follow up visits. She told me it was a possibility. I followed up with the office manager Jessica and voiced my displeasure with the lack of respect I was shown and how bad the experience was. I will likely not return and encourage others to find a different urology office. read more

If you wanna see a man run, just say the word "Urology"! That will make you run to the hills! Fast! I am not fond of Doctors, but if I had to go to a Urologist, I would have picked the right place to go! "First Urology" was the right pick! When I had pain in the kidney one evening that progressed, I knew I had to see somebody, fast. Kidneys are something you don't mess with if something goes wrong. So I made an appointment, a and within 2 days they fit me in. The LNP consulted me, after that I went to another room to get a CT scan. Then, I guess about 20 minutes later the LNP read my scan, then told me what she saw. She gave me a few options to choose from. She was extremely polite, professional, and told what to do and what I could expect. No sugar coating it either. I felt better knowing what had to look forward to. People should know that working in Urology is extremely stressful for the staff there. I mean, you can imagine the suffering, the complaining, people in serious pain. If you want to see people in pain, go to a Urology Waiting room. It was sad to see. The staff did a great job for what they have to deal with on a daily basis. God bless them! Had an appointment in March at the 2400 Eastpoint Pkwy Ste 560, Louisville, KY 40223 location. May I'm getting a bill that states Medicaid. This was the first time I had seen them in 7 years, I filled out paperwork and even told the receptionist my insurance had changed. She did not update any of my information. Even shows my wrong primary care on papers I received . This place is a joke. My pcp had to call in a referral because no one at the call center can answer the phone. My mother had a bad experience with First Urology in Louisville, Kentucky, at the Dixie Hwy location by one of its doctors. We were giving misleading information, the procedure was deceptive and the doctor was rude, unprofessional, and deceptive. As her caregiver, I filed a complaint. To my surprise, they dismissed her from their entire practice, so that she can not be seen by any Urologist. This was nothing more than a form of retaliation due to the complaint I filed against the doctor. My mother has done nothing wrong. I will be seeking the representation of a local attorney. I find it strange that they were quick to dismiss my mother from their practice, but when I filed a complaint against the doctor, they still have informed me of the outcome. I have been a patent at First Urology for years and I have never had a problem with my doctor. As mentioned before, it is like an assembly line when you enter the waiting area. There are five attended stations and you have to stand in line to see one of them. However, once you are taken back to the patent rooms things are more friendly. The second time was also ALL about the money. I had never had a catheter. They shoved one in me causing me extreme pain, then walked out the door. No instructions, no care steps, no future follow-up. I would give negative stars if I could. Husband referred due to high PSA. Biopsy confirmed cancer. Dr. Linden couldn't be bothered to answer questions, just said radiation or surgery. Ran a $5,000 genetic test that our insurance (no insurance) will pay due to experimental and not medically necessary. Dr. dismissed our concern and said we would only have to pay $395. Fought for months and then guess what, had to pay $395 for it. Filed lab work with out of network lab costing us another $170. Got second opinion at UofL Health, no treatment needed now, just observation and confirmed the genetic test was basically useless. This genetic test is a scam, and the lack of concern for my husband's health or our financial impact was non-existent. It's an assembly line of a practice to bill you for all they can. I hesitate writing this review but my last experience was not good. I am a 20 year customer. Nineteen of the twenty years have been very good. This year has been bad. 1. For my last experience I visited the Dupont office. I have gone to the exam rooms on the right of the reception desk for all previous appointments. The space on the right is not luxurious but adequate. This time I went to the left. I spent most of my time waiting to see the "doctor" sitting in a chair in the hall exposed to staff and patients coming and going. Very uncomfortable. I would have rather sat in the main lobby until I was allowed to enter the exam room. 2. Once in the exam room, I noticed the upholstery on the exam table was ripped or worn through. Not very hygienic. Thankfully since my visit was so short, I was not asked to get on the table. 3. My appointment was rescheduled at the request of the practice twice because the doctor was out of town and then sick. After all of the rescheduling at their request I expected to see the doctor I had an appointment with. Didn't happen. I think I saw a APRN which is fine except there was no explanation why the person I had an appointment with didn't show up. No review of my history, no review of past conditions, just in and out. I'm sure I contributed to the support of the two vacation homes they offer their employees. When I got home, I told my wife the time I spent and the gas I used to get there was a waste.
