Found this spot on our day road trip. The bartender was young and very friendly and helpful. We had pizza and beer. The pizza was excellent!

Coming to visit family in Fairfield, I had heard of a newer cider brewery and restaurant that…read moreserved great food and cool cider flavors. That was underselling it - this cider house is awesome! I love that there are so many different fruit flavors in their ciders. My personal favorites were the watermelon and apricot. There is also a great selection of burgers all the way from your classic cheeseburger down to a no-meat burger, each with its own unique toppings. I got the 'Merica Burger and didn't even have time to take a picture because I just scarfed it down. They have a great selection of sides too - chips, slaw, potato salad, or a glass of your favorite cider! We will definitely be coming back to the Cider House every time we are back in town. Great food and great drinks!

My only complaint is that food service is kinda slow and the way you order food and drinks is kinda clumsy. It's almost like the food is an afterthought to what was originally intended to be a bar. I recently made the mistake of going on a Friday night at 7pm. They were busy and there were about 10 people ahead of us in the line. It took 30+ minutes to reach the order window, at which time we were informed it was an hour and a half wait to get our food. Why couldn't a manager or a staff member inform the people standing patiently (as the line was steadily growing) of the wait time before we got to the window? Completely unacceptable lack of customer service. Once you actually get your food, it's great, and the bar service is pretty efficient. Great selection of drinks.

I've never seen a margarita put in a glass that is intended for whiskey so that was the first I had sweet tea, but it wasn't sweet at all. We ordered our supper at 6:52 PM. I called the waitress over at 7:45 she said they were backed up in the kitchen. I don't believe this was true. Everyone around us had their food except us. I believe she didn't get the order in or they lost the ticket when the meal came at around 8 o'clock. The baked potato would not melt butter. You could hold it in your hand. It was cold. I ordered grilled fish. I got fried fish. My girlfriend had chicken fried steak. It's actually chicken fried chicken she had mashed potatoes. They reminded us both of when we were in high school. We get those potatoes that you're not quite sure they're potatoes. I called the waitress over. I told her about my meal. She said she'd have them remake it. I said no thank you she said she'd take it off the bill. It's not about money. I can afford to eat wherever I want. She didn't offer to do anything else and I believe us having to wait almost an hour for our food was really ridiculous. Needless to say I'll have second thoughts if I ever decide to eat there again.

The tenderloin is definitely not made "in house" or fresh its a pre-made frozen product, Im guessing from Polancic's. Ate about 4 bites and the rest became a snack for the dog. Soda, forget about refills you pay for every one. Tea, non sweetened and no real sugar available just artificial stuff. The decor is great, the service is EXCELLENT. Pie, at least the blackberry, was very good and the highlight of the meal. Food did come out quickly and was hot when it arrived. We will try it again and just try other options on the menu, never give up on a place because one menu item is below standard.

We had a grilled fish and the fried catfish, plus the fried green beans. Everything was well acceptable. The cabernet was better than the red blend. It appears they also have mixed drinks but the lady only offered us beer and wine. Strangely we had to operate the POS device ourselves to pay - the lady said she was not allowed to touch the charge cards. There is an interesting collection of geodes and junk in the yard next door, and out back the Des Moines River flows rapidly by.
