Updated 2024 Review: I was recently laid off and I thought I'd check out how Co-Op is doing via Yelp. And I'm left weird out.. The rebranded "First Professional Services" has zero online presence, while all of the Yelp reviews are all old (from the Co-Op era). I only could find the old Co-Op profiles on LinkedIn and Google, but nothing for First Professional Services. That's a bit odd for a temp agency, yeah? Being active online should be their thing! But wait, there's more: Their current website is a sad little ghost town, with the last job posting dating back to 2021. Lastly, it looks like the recruiting team I once knew from the Co-op days are all gone... with the staff page on the site being suspiciously blank. All of this is sending me some major red flags under this new "regime", so I can't recommend or trust "First Professional Service". read more

Co-Op is an Entertainment Industry staple. So, if you're lucky enough to be able to work with them, I highly recommend it! Co-Op places temps at the large studios and at other entertainment companies throughout L.A. I have been in Los Angeles for 11 years and Co-Op put me on my first-ever entertainment desk. They gave me my first foot-in-the door in the industry and I'll never forget it. And, they rock! This agency has a stellar reputation for a reason: their temps are the best! The reason their temps are the best is because they are treated respectfully by the staff. They are lovely, friendly -- and of course, professional. Temping in the "industry' can be intimidating, but if you do a good job, Co-Op will take good care of you in return. I have been placed on two "temporary" jobs by this agency in the past that turned into full-time hire positions. If and when I send friends to them, they are always appreciative. It's kind of like a family, and like me, there are several people working in entertainment in this town that got their start by working for Co-Op. When you work with good people, you want to continue to go back and work with them. I'm currently a graduate student and when I have downtime or need some extra money I give Co-Op a buzz and they make a huge effort to find me work. Love them! read more

What an incredible agency. I've flirted around with other agencies before, but this one is the best, hands down. The courtesy and the professionalism displayed by the folks here is unparalleled. This is everything other Temp Agencies strive to be. Great Staff coupled with consistent job opportunities. They hustle to get you work, and negotiate your rate to everyone's benefit. They have great relationships with the Studios they work with, and thus if they send you in, do a great job and you will always have more work when available. I'm actually really disappointed by what happened with Co-Op. At first it was great, I was getting called weekly, and I couldn't ask for more. A lot of the positions I was called about I wasn't qualified for, but I really felt that they were trying. I even had a phone interview for a great position at Fox. However, in December the calls suddenly stopped. I called in, and was told that it was a slow season. "Ok" I thought to myself, that makes sense. Well January and February came along and still no calls. I called in several times and each time Sila said she was "trying." Now mind you, she wasn't dismissive at all, and after I got off the phone with her the first couple times I wanted to believe her, but I never saw the results of her "trying." More time went by and I sent additional emails, just asking if there was anything available (literally anything at that point). At some point she even stopped replying to my emails! It's June now, and though I have a job (they don't know that) my phone hasn't rung once. I originally said they're interested in developing my career with me, it honestly doesn't seem like that's the case. What's unfortunate is that I have a friend that has had a similar experience with them (he even had a nickname/play on words for Sila about how she disappeared, but I can't remember what is was). I'd say, give them a shot, but seriously don't count on it. read more

Co-Op Temp Services is one of the best in the business! Admittedly, it took a bit of time to get the ball rolling (about 3-4 months in my case, so best to have side hustles holding you over). However, once I got placed on a few assignments, the jobs just started coming in! I never had to worry about the next assignment. I would be contacted as soon as my current assignment was coming to an end to secure a new assignment. This meant that I never had to worry about a lag in pay! Not to mention that after three months of steady work with them, I was covered by insurance! Co-Op Temps gave me such peace of mind while going through a major transitional period in my career in Entertainment. Tina and Sila are angels and were able to answer all my questions and keep me informed of any new opportunities. I owe my new position in the entertainment industry to Sila Shakeri. I pursued this service after hearing about it from a friend. She helped me get in touch with Sila who then set up an interview with me. From the beginning, I was told of the possibility that I may not get an opportunity for a while, that it could be a couple days notice to a couple weeks that I get a position. The whole process happened very fast! I had my interview with Sila in the first week of February, and the next week I got an opportunity! She was very easy to work with, and everything was in order and sent to me very quickly. When I got to LA a friend of mine was temping at Fox and I asked him how he got the job, and he said Co-Op. Sent my resume in, and Jill called me to come in and test. I was immediately smitten with her and the agency. In fact, after a few temp jobs and great reviews, they put me on a desk that would begin a long career at Fox. Sixteen years later when I needed work due to a layoff, I was equally as smitten with her and now with Sila. I recommend them without hesitation, but if you don't have some skills or experience you can't expect them to keep you booked. Life just doesn't work like that. So, for those who complained - your resume was either not up to snuff, or maybe you got a few bad reviews on the job. It happens. If neither of those are the case, then there really wasn't any work. That happened a few times in the early days for me, and then with their skill and my networking it never happened again. Definitely the best around. If you don't believe me, go try Career Group. This temp agency is very particular with who they take in. I've applied multiple times and after third time (when I had a lot more experience on my resume), they contacted me for an info. Compared to most temp agencies I've been with, I'm very surprised at how quickly they've gotten me work (short-term gigs.) I work with Tina mostly and she has been very receptive and responsive to my emails and questions. I definitely recommend this place! As a fresh college graduate, they routinely placed me at desks that allowed me not only to pay my bills, but also to expand my knowledge of the industry. Since then, I have begun to work on several television shows, and given the often unpredictable nature of the industry, it has been my greatest blessing to know that when a show gets cancelled, or simply runs its course, Co-Op will be there for me with open arms until I find my next gig. This has got to be one of the worst temp agencies I have ever dealt with. They register you, you give them your soc security card and driver license to copy, fill out an I-9 and the games begin. They call you up asking if you're available/interested in a particular assignment and if you say yes they say, "great, I'll submit your resume." Whatever that means. From the looks of it, it seems that Co-Op pits their candidates against each other and whoever gets the job is fine with them. They mostly handle Fox and Fox are a bunch of cheap bastards who low ball candidates. Beware. Co-Op is not only unprofessional but they are not very communicative. On more than one occasion they said they'd follow-up with me about assignment when each time they just left me guessing. Stay away! read more

I'm in between jobs again, and Jill & Sila have been great. I've been on one job in the last month and they are placing me fairly regularly. If you're good, Coop will get you work. I don't know where Suzy N gets her material, but that baseless claim that Fox lowballs their candidates has got to be the belly buster of the year. FOX studios pays the highest rates out of all the studios (while Universal pays you the lowest that makes you think twice about that offer you turned down in fast food management). I worked for nearly for a year for Jill and I reported to Melissa Wilcox where she got me a handful of administrative assistant positions in Fox Sports and Paramount Pictures THAT PAID VERY WELL, more than any other agency has ever arranged for me. Co-op negotiates some sensational rates for their associates - sometimes even more than you feel you're worth. In the brief time I was working for them, sometimes I felt like I was living the high life for a tiny bit - never had problems paying the bills through them and had plenty left over for comic book and prog rock cd splurging without any lingering guilt. Sometimes, you're going to need that higher pay of rate - because the food at the Fox commissary is very expensive - but their Philly steak sandwiches on Fridays are to die for!! I wound up accepting a nearly two year contract through another agency to work in the television syndication department at Sony Pictures and sort of disappeared off their radar - BUT any other temp I knew at Sony who completed their assignment a little early - I always recommended him or her in giving Co-op a call. Sadly upon my lay off at Sony, or in layman's terms, contract not renewed, I gave Co-op a call to see if I could return to Fox and unfortunately they told they don't get much calls to send candidates back over to Fox and they had to downgrade to a much smaller office in their building. Another agency has a big contract with Fox these days and they even allow the new agency to operate a annex office on the lot - so Jill and co, have suffered and struggled quite a bit financially over the past few years. I still call in available every week and whenever I have the chance, I still like talking to Jill M these days- her words are very inspiring to me, even when the chips are down. read more

I have no idea why "Suzy N." is complaining about giving her info to an employment agency?!? are you serious ? How are they suppose to verify your identity/background and make sure your eligible to work? Do you think major companies would be ok with just sending any random person with no verifications? Its a big NO. I have worked with a few of the leading agencies in town since 2008 and Co-Op is by far the very best in the business.
