I have bought and sold real estate all over this country and I have never run into any lenders who are better than the loan officers at First National Bank!! I bought my retirement home by the sea seven years ago and happily financed it through The First National and was extremely pleased with the care and service I received from Petrea Allen (now retired).  I never thought that I would ever find anyone who could possibly match the TLC that I received. When I decided to apply for a HELOC with The First in Ellsworth I found Ms. Lorianne Jackson and Ms. Emily Lajoie and they are an extraordinary asset to the First.  They went above and beyond my expectations and I thought you should know about these wonderful ladies.  For example, my LLC had mistakes that were made when I bought the property....Lorianne and Emily pointed this out and I have contacted Ellen Best to ask that she correct her mistake!  They also noted mistakes on my IRS returns that were NOT in my benefit.  These ladies are neither CPAs or Attorneys, but they are extremely bright and alert and should be recognized for their due diligence as well as their timeliness and efficiency. read more

As a newly divorced woman after nearly 20 years of marriage, I found myself in a position of self-sufficiency for the first time in a very long time.. I was quite apprehensive about going to a bank on my own to borrow money because I NEVER had...and I was SURE they would say no. A friend (actually it was my ex-husband!) referred me to Todd Savage at the First so I called and made the appointment and began to gather my financials. So...after procrastinating (out of fear of rejection) I took all my documents to Todd. He had a few questions for me (fortunately I had a few answers for him!) but we got through the relatively painless process. I found Todd Savage to be extremely organized, patient, professional, and hugely knowledgeable in the field of banking. He also took the time to answer all of my questions as well.. Todd was able to be flexible enough to make the deal happen. I recommend The First and Todd Savage (as well a his very professional team) and found them to be a pleasure to work with and will do so again the very first time I need more banking services. Mostly absolutely Terrible. The only benefit is the people who work in the bank who are extremely polite and helpful, but they have horrible hours. Customer service phone number is awful, and never available, since I work overnights and I am usually not awake or available when they are. They put ridiculous restrictions on your accounts for absolutely no reason and restrict access to your own money that YOU work for. The only reason they have two stars is their actual bank tellers, who are amazing. The bank itself, meaning it's leadership, is a joke, and probably the worst banking leadership in Maine by far. Not to mention their online banking just doesn't work at all. It tells you either your information that you put in, which you know is correct, is false and doesn't match, probably because they're too lazy to update customer information, or because they flat out don't care about you as a customer. I can't tell which, most likely both. Or if you use log in info that the helpful tellers have given you personally, they say it's incorrect. So basically I've put money into their bank for me not to be able to use it when I need it. Atrocious to say the least, and greedy as hell. Thanks for telling me I can't use what I own. Once I move in a month, I will be more than happy to leave this bank in the dust and move on to one that gives me more control and service. Done. Just done. read more
