Upgrading my review from 1 star to 3 stars because Natalie Werts is an amazing employee who has really stepped up and helped us out tremendously during this challenging time. Her response is prompt and she really cares about her clients. I'll give FHB 5 Stars when they finally upgrade their OLD and outdated computer system. Until then, thank you Natalie for all your help we appreciate it. read more

They tried to charge several overdraft fees to my account. The debit card charges and deposits were ordered, then reordered, so that it looked like my account was overdrawn. However, when I looked carefully at the dates and amounts, i saw that my account had never been overdrawn. When I called in about it, they said, "that's weird, you shouldn't have been charged any overdraft charges since your balance was never negative." Despite this, they let the charges stand! After complaining several times and reporting it, they did finally reverse the charges. read more

Need to re-train the female security with the black hair bun ponytail. She is always very unwelcoming even to people who work in the building. She picks and chooses who can go through the gate. This isn't the first time she pressed the gate button for people to go through the gates and she had me run through again even though I have already scanned my card and went through with no alarm going off. Many other previous situations involving with the same female security. While leaving between 5:30pm-5:45pm, she already closed the glass doors. A bunch of us from the other floors scanned a card/worktag to open the glass door and while walking towards the door, it already locked. She told me and others, you got to rescan and walk faster to the door in a rude attitude. Even coworkers and other tenants of the building informed me to beware with her as she closes the doors before 6pm and closes the loading zone gates before 4:30pm. There were times while riding the elevator, always hear how this female security doesn't seem to want to work. On the positive side. All of the other security guards are very friendly, professional, and willing to help when asking questions! read more

First Hawaiian Bank is the worst bank ever to exist. Worst customer service as well. They will try to over charge you every chance they get. The customer service after hour is the worst ever, she needs to get fired. Never had a more disgusting phone call in my life. Everyone please do not use this bank and get them to shut down! read more

So much negative reviews and I can see why. My negative review is for a CD that was renewed and not given the correct APY when I checked online. If I had not checked online since I got a paper confirmation in the mail, I might have missed getting the correct interest rate. I had to call bank to have it corrected. So let this be a warning to all, even though you get in the mail paper confirmation, check what is online as there could be a mistake on CD interest rates. Somehow quality at the bank has gone downhill. Might look into other local banks to see who is better. read more

I've banked at FHB forever. Even before it's name was changed to FHB. My first savings account was with their predecessor bank. Now i want to get out. They have closed the drive thru banking windows. It takes forever just to get to a teller and all want to do ever is make a deposit. So I started to make Express Deposits. Now they have closed down Express Deposit. They have removed all deposit and withdrawal slips. So you have to stand in line just to make a deposit. You'd think they'd accommodate people just wanting to make a deposit. NOPE. Stand in line you f.... loser and wait. Here in Aina Haina, they built this mausoleum of a bank. It's monstrous and much of it appears to be empty, vacant with nothing happening. Of the many desk, most appear to be always unoccupied. I rarely see anyone interacting with the few occupied desks. What a job. I'm slowly leaving this slap in the face business. read more

I like to put zero stars . . When I pay off my FHB card off they report me to the credit bureau and my score goes down immediately. The 1.5 stars is all they are worth. Can't recommend them at all. Worst customer service at Kapahulu branch. The employees at FHB are fantastic people! I support them & their patience 1000%!! But the tools the FHB administration has provided them are sloooow. Very slow. This often causes a long wait in line AND at the counter. Transactions that should take from a few seconds to a couple of minutes .... often take several minutes, as we all wait for the slow software to process everything. The administration should admit their mistake and get the team better & more efficient tools. Thank you FHB employees for hanging in there. read more

I gave them a good 5 years. Got a car loan, and a bank acct. Over 5 years they charged me over 300.00 in checking acct fees. I was NEVER late on a loan pymt for FIVE YEARS. I then figured out they were charging me 5.99 / month in fees so I switched my payments to another bank. They then reported my car loan as delinquent for 6.73 in fees +tax and dropped my credit. Absolutely no hoihi for their customers. Highly advise you go to another bank. read more

Since, this is the main location, I will do my review here. FIRST HAWAIIAN BANK IS THE BIGGEST FAIL! Do not choose this bank for any major lending or purchasing dealings!! I paid off my auto loan in Nov 2022 and still have not received my title!!! I have called "CUStOMER SERVICE # 3XS. Been transferred 6xs and still did not resolve issue! Responses I've got, "I'm sorry, Title is on its way", Let me transfer you to titles" and "It's a computer problem". This is POOR SERVICE. It is Jan. 6 and I still have not received it. My registration needed to be changed by name and is now Late. All I got were excuses and I'm sorry". Paid off the loan 2 years early so I wouldn't have to deal with this, now they can't send the title! During the loan, twice had computer issues" on auto pay. I don't believe anyone needs this experience When you pay on time and can't get your title its a Fail! Never been late and IMPOSSIBLE SERVICE. DON'T bank here. Asked for a # to speak to higher management, but said couln't give me the #. Worst Ever Experience!!! I would Rate them 0 but it wont let me post. This business originated in Kailua and I used your "CUSTOMER SERVICE #." WHICH SHOULD BE RE-NAMED. And, the recorder says 4xs, your hold time is 10 mins" after waiting 30 mins. already. The dealership I went to got my financing through First Hawaiian Bank. After a month I received a welcome packet in the mail including a payment coupon booklet. I assumed that I could logon, create an account, link an external account, and pay my loan like all other banks let you do. I could not find a way to create an account so I tried to call them and their phone system says the estimated wait time is 80-something minutes. That has to be a mistake. So I wait 15 minutes and each time it comes back with an even longer estimated wait time. I put it on speaker and do some programming while I wait for someone to come on the phone. The estimated time never changed but after an hour of waiting I hung up. A couple months of writing checks I decide to head to a branch and see what I need to do to make payments online. I get to the Waipahu branch and the line is out the door and wrapping around the building. In for a penny, in for a pound I guess. After a couple hours I get to the teller window and explain what I need to do. I'm handed a form and was asked to write down what username I want to use online and fill out the rest. I complete the form and pass it back. The teller informs me that in 4-6 weeks I will receive a letter in the mail containing my password. It did show up on week 5 and I could now make payments online. Last month I submitted a message about taking my car to mainland since I'm relocating. It's not due to job or military so the form I found didn't apply to me. Their website says "We are currently experiencing a high volume of secured messages. We will respond as soon as possible and thank you for your patience." I submitted my secure message almost a month ago and still have not received a response. At this point I think I should refi just to get better customer service. read more

Lines are the same at all branches. I went to the Kapolei branch at 12:50 pm and was standing at the front door. There was about 20+ in front of me. I only noticed 2 Tellers. Went to ask Jenelynn at accounts to find out if there was more people to help the line, here response was "no"! She asked what I needed and I replied that "I only needed to get change." She replied only the Tellers could help me. She then ran out the front door. I left because I was on my lunch break and was not going to wait. I the tried to call Customer Service at 844-4444 and got a recording that I was number 38 on the list. I then went to the Mapunapuna branch and saw a similar line. read more

FBH is f-ing horrible. I paid off my car loan 17 days ago and still no title. Called 4 days ago and waited 30min for customer service who told me they would have a loan specialist call me back which they never did. Now on hold again with an estimated wait time of 45min. Ridiculous. Their online banking is also less than "good". I have accounts at 9 other financial institutions and this one is hands down the worst. No other even comes close. As an FDIC bank, I took a dollar bill that had about 30 % missing to get it replaced at First Hawaiian bank on rice streeet in Lihue. I was depositing over $2000 from a non-profit that I work with. When I asked for a replacement dollar the manager told the teller to tell me that as I was not personally a customer, I would have to have 75% of the dollar bill present. I would think that a manager at a bank would know the law that as long as you have 51% an FDIC bank will replace the dollar. So I had to go to another bank (actually any other FDIC bank) and they honored the law. Not customer friendly and I am glad I don't use them as a bank for my personal accounts. read more

If I could reverse time and choose another bank, I would a hundred times fold. In my entire life, I have never, EVER, had issues with any bank until now. I patiently waited two whole weeks for my debit card to come into the mail(which I desperately needed to pay my bills with). I called the number attached to my card to activate it and it sent me to customer service due to some kind of error. The lady who picked up the phone told me the card was already activated. I tried to used my card several times for different bills but it wouldn't go through. I was forced to call customer service again. A more knowledgeable gentleman picked up and told me the truth on what happened. He clearly told me that it was deactivated the day before I received my card and a new one will be sent out again. ‍ I didn't authorize a new card. I am upset that I have waited almost a total of 4 weeks now. The fact that they resent a new card which has still not shown up makes me even more angrier. The fact that my checks came in the mail within 3 days makes the whole situation more idiotic. It is now the beginning of the new month and I definitely can't wait to pay some new late fees. *Hence the sarcasm* Also, the day that I signed up with this bank, a woman helped me and asked for my mailing address. I showed her documents and previous mail that has my mailing address in print. Truth behold, she still typed it incorrectly. What a joke! Luckily my mailman wasn't as dumb as she and knew my name with the correct address. Props to the mailman. Yes, I did call customer service again to correct this error. I wonder how long it will take them to actually fix it though. Hmmmm??? I'm very grateful that my "first deactivated card" didn't get into the wrong hands of someone. Please update your bank on technology. -FHB doesn't offer control of your debit card on the mobile app. -FHB doesn't allow you to update your personal info on the mobile app. -FHB doesn't alert or email you on any transactions and any activity. -FHB doesn't fully train all their employees to do their job correctly. -FHB takes several days to do money transfers of any sort. -FHB loves to charge you multiple $30 fees. -FHB can easily make you a victim of fraud. I honestly thought this bank would be at least somewhat decent... But I was totally wrong! Don't ever come here and definitely don't trust this bank to do anything on time. This bank should definitely be renamed to First Terrible & Outdated Bank of Hawaii. read more

Terrible customer service help line. Appears to be understaffed or lacks efficient processes. You sit in a queue for an excessive amount of time. There is a wait time message announcement that rarely changes when you are on hold. Wish zero stars was an option. Pros: - Friendly staff - Steady long term staff - really really nice banking buildings in many cases Cons: - the incompetence of this organization is difficult to express in only a few minutes time to write something describing all of the problems - in summary all the wrong amounts on our statements (really!!), delays in payments from FHB to FHB, Inconsistencies in debits / credits with the online data download (ie quickbooks), online mortgage statements are completely and totally nonexistent, AND THE HIGHEST MANDATORY monthly charges in the industry. So tired of "working with them" to straighten out THEIR mistakes. Just one example: FHB checking set to autopay FHB mortgage automatically on 7th yet twice now it has taken until the 17th! So they take TEN - that's right 10 - days to get funds from one FHB account to another! Front line staff is AWESOME but the people running the place at the corporate level are LITERALLY INCOMPETENT. Btw... we own 3 businesses and have active accounts with Wells Fargo, Central Pacific Bank, Hawaii National Bank, Chase, American Express and while there are occasional issues with each NOTHING compares to the ineptness of First Hawaiian Bank. Guessing is the CEO is an arrogant pompous fool too busy playing golf to FIX this JOKE of a bank. read more

Extremely disappointed with my FHB experiences: - Went to the Kapahulu branch to establish a checking account. Came home to create my online banking program and was denied access, citing incorrect personal information. - Call FHB "customer service", and after a very long wait time, am told the personal information I am providing, does not match their records and that I need to physically go back to the branch to resolve the matter. - Go back to the branch and find out the clerk entered the last digit of my SNN incorrectly. - Fast foward 10 business days. I am still without my first batch of checks. - Call FHB customer service, wait an hour on hold, rep confirms my info, says checks should have been issued, puts me on hold to investigate... and I am disconnected. No call back, despite having accessed my account and knowing who they were assisting. - Call back the next morning, wait another 30min on hold, rep informs me checks were never ordered/sent - despite the rep from yesterday saying they were. Current rep states when you open a checking account, that is all we do. We do not provide you with checks, they must be requested/ordered. This was a first to me in my 35+ years of banks and checking accounts. - So had I not inquired about checks, for my personal checking account, no checks from FHB would have ever been issued to me. The clerk who created my account never offered to provide checks, nor did he mention that they were considered optional. I wonder if this is just some kinda of tactic to encourage going "paperless"? Haha. read more

I stand by my first review. FHB wants to charge me $40 to mail statements that they have never made available online and have never mailed to my home. Justin Morizo## paid off my car loan off 11/28/23. SBeretania FHB,teller told me it will be in the mail 4-6 weeks. Jan 2 no car title.Contacted a Male agent from the loan dept on 1/4/24 said it will be mail out. Waiting, waiting, still no title. Called FHB loan dept and spoke to Karen 1/11/24 and she said it was not mail out. It will be mail out. Waiting, waiting still no car title. On Wed 1/17/2024, I went down to FHB Kapiolani to do a bank transaction. I asked the teller, if she can contact FHB loan dept and inquire to make sure the title has been sent out. So I had to go back to the FHB bank again at 12:59pm, to do a transaction for my mom. I spoke to the teller she told me that Karen from auto loan dept, so called sent the title out 1/12/2024 last Friday and the title will arrive next week. If Karen sent the title out last Friday 1/12/2024 the title should be here already 1/17/2024. Loan officer Karen "LIED" she forgot to mail it out, that's why the car title will arrive next week 1/22/24-1-26-2024 sometime. I don't know when I will get this car title as of 1/17/2024. The reason why I want the car title sent to me quickly, is that my niece is also registered to the car and she has been getting red light traffic tickets and it is effecting my insurance rates to go up. This is the most incompetent bank I have ever dealt with. My account has over $200,000 in activity and I went to this branch for a notary for a vehicle to ship to the Big Island and they said I had to make an appointment for the next day. There WERE NO LINES. There was basically ONE other customer there. Bank of Hawaii, right next door, where I only have $500 in my account, accommodated me. On my business checking account, I wanted to open a sub-account to put taxes in seperate from my main account and they told me to go to Waikoloa!! That is where I opened my account but I bought a house on the Hilo side, why did I have to drive 2 hours each way to Waikoloa???!!! INSANE!!! On top of that when I got my debit card 2 years ago I had to fill out a form to change my address since I had bought a house. They had my debit card get shipped to them. When I went in to pick it up they couldn't find who had the "vault keys", 35 minutes later they figure it out. So 45 minutes just to get MY debit card. I heard the excuse the change of address department/system doesn't have a way to communicate to the other systems. Then THIS YEAR again my debit card was set to expire in 2 days. I go in to find out what is taking so long and why don't they have a card sent to me. They don't know what happened but my change of address form from TWO years ago wasn't processed. AGAIN, I have to have a card shipped to the branch. I go in and they can't find it. I tell them they are super incompetent. Now YESTERDAY I am trying to order checks. The system says it can't "process my order" and I have to call the branch. The current wait time is 86 minutes!!! Why can't ANYTHING work correctly with this bank???? The last time the wait was this long, even though I said to "call me back" and my place in line would be held it wasn't. NO ONE CALLED BACK. So here we are again waiting for a callback. I can NOT wait to change banks. It is going to be a pain because my CPA has my bank account import directly to her Quickbooks, so now I need to change all that when I change banks. I am waiting for my house refinance to close, then I will move banks. My CPA said First Hawaiian Bank is super incompetent with home loans as well, I would have gone with them but my CPA said she recently had clients so well off they could basically pay cash for the house but First Hawaiian Bank could BARELY get them financed. Pretty shit service all around. read more

Short version: I despise this bank. I have a vehicle loan with them from the dealership. They won't give me an online account, so I can't pay online. I've tried calling for various reasons, including returning calls, and have never gotten through. Email? They don't answer. I have no way to pay my loan but by check. I had my bank send them monthly checks for me. Problem solved? Not at all. First Hawaiian was too negligent to open and process the checks and sent me to collections, damaging my credit score. I found out after my score dropped, went to the bank to inquire why, and they discovered months of checks they hadn't processed. "Sorry, we can't undo reporting you." The only other way to contact them was to send instructions by snail mail. FHB never acknowledged receipt of my instructions. The corporate culture appears to not want to help and is very arrogant. I waited in a long line to make a small cash deposit and just to be told I couldn't because I didn't have an ID. Wasted time!!

What a great start in the right direction. Pending transaction now appear on the mobile app. FaceID works perfectly on the mobile app. Way better than bank of Hawaii. FHB has the upper hand in that only. A few more features and updates to bring banking up to date. FHB still struggles with innovation. Mobile banking/ ATM banking are still stuck in the past. Here are things that your competition has that keeps you stuck in the past. 1. ATM cash/check deposit. Being there only a select few branches and I do mean if you are open on the weekends you have to give your customers alternatives. Having an ATM like Bank of Hawaii where you can deposit cash and it's available immediately. You can also deposit checks and it's available the following business day. 2. ATM/Debit card control via mobile app. Having the option to control your debit card and transactions on the mobile app is so convenient. It will cut down on fraud and on authorized transactions. Every time your debit card is swiped you're notified via app that a transaction is in process. 3. Fast mobile deposit. I don't know why mobile deposit is available several days later. I don't mean to compare you but you need to know of your competition and what they are doing. With Bank of Hawaii you're able to mobile deposit checks up to $5000 per day per rolling five days. Funds are generally available the next business day not several days later. There needs to be an update to your mobile deposit to bring it up to your competition not to fall behind your competition. I think that First Hawaiian Bank has the capability to become the states largest bank and most desirable with those changes. Because you do not have desired hours like I go for what he and American savings you should be the first to drive technology and have different avenues electronically for your customers. If your branches are going to close at 4 PM your customer still need a branch to go to. So why not make it mobile branch? read more

First Hawaiian Bank is located on Bishop Street. This branch happens to be the main branch for First Hawaiian Bank. The automated teller machines are located on the ground floor after entering through the double doors. It's on the right hand side of CBTL. The lobby area is towards the right hand side of the ATMs. I entered the lobby area and noticed that there wasn't really a line. I found a counter area in which I took out my landline telephone bill out of my bag. I approached the starting of the line and was greeted by the next available teller. I paid my telephone bill and was done with the transaction really quick. First Hawaiian Bank is one of the many bank options for people to store their hard earned moolahs. New customers of the bank are able to open up an account here at the branch. Existing customers are able to get a personal loan for their vehicles or mortgage. I need to remember to one day open up an emergency funds account at one of the branches in the future. 9/100 read more

Seems FHB is so big the clerk and customer service reps are incapable of printing my loan statement. I now know why most leave them.

This bank has been costing my wife and I 30.00 overdraft fees almost monthly by sitting on payments (sandbagging is the term) until are account is low then posting a debit putting us under a couple dollars then charging us overdraft fee then allowing the (sandbagged) deposits pending to go through after they have charged there overdraft fee. I get paid DAILY with my job and even with that they sandbag to get there Overdraft fees! Most recently bill came out and showed we still had $24.00 and never even went into the negative! yet again they charged us stating that at the time of it (minute of it) we went below even though the online statement shows we were in the +$ 24.00 not negative at all. (picture of bank statement included) First Hawaiian bank gives themselves a 24 hour window to do this! This has gone on for 3 years now and I am finally closing my account due to this latest blatant rip off.
