There's a new pier where boats can pull up, and it's popular for swimming and diving too. The beach itself has a rustic, wooded feel. The swimming area is shallow to a point and then gets deep enough for real swimming. The biggest downside is all of the goose poop especially on the walkway that provides accessibility. There is plenty of parking and a playground for the kiddos.

North Park is a nice place to spend an afternoon. There's a little something for everyone here…read more This part features (from their website): a picnic shelter, restrooms, fully- accessible playground, 1.1 mile paved walking track, seven athletic fields used for baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse, a multi-use track used for skating and bicycling, seven ballfields, six tennis courts, four basketball courts and two sand volleyball courts. I like to walk a few laps around the track when the weather permits. There's usually a few others on the path as well, but it's never been too crowded. One bad thing about the track is there seems to be a lot of goose poop near the pond. I've also shot some hoops on the court before. It gets super busy on the weekends, so you might want to think about going somewhere else unless you're trying to get in on a pickup game. The rims are very stiff as well which doesn't make it very fun. Find a way to get rid of the geese (or at least the poop) and add a fenced in dog park, and this place would get another star.

I like Rivergate Park! It's a small, hidden gem for the area, and I almost don't even want to write…read moreabout it because I don't want it to lose its luster to me. I like places no one else seems to know about. Its located right off Columbus Road (turn right at Sainato's). Rivergate Park is a very small park located outside Merwin's Wharf. There's a tiny area with public art and another grassy area under the bridge situated right on the river. I recently met a friend here for socially distanced yoga and forgot how much I liked it as a public space. It's quiet except for the gentle hum of the river and ambient traffic noise from the bridge above. But when you're used to a city environment, this feels peaceful. May bother a suburban dweller, though. In general, no one will bother you here. You can park in the small, free lot across the street and walk over. Most of the action in the immediate area will be the traffic coming in and out of the very closeby Merwin's Wharf restaurant run by the Metroparks. Don't expect a sprawling, manicured field here at Rivergate Park, but do accept sufficient green space if you need a peaceful place to hang out. We had fun.
