If you're looking for a modern, clean, friendly well staffed gym this is not the place for you…read more Mold is visibly everywhere, old rusty equipment throughout the gym. The lower level has roaches or large waterbugs running around. I've been going to this gym for about 3 months and during this time I have never seen the "cleaner" vacuum the carpeted areas (do they even have a vacuum?). In fact I have consistently seen the "cleaner" working out on the lower level when he's suppose to be cleaning. The men's bathroom is gross, the sink/vanity is warped & moldy. No hand soap for days at a time, in fact members go to the Dollar Tree store down the block to buy hand soap for the bathroom (see photos). The bottom line, look elsewhere, there are better gyms nearby.

PROS: I live two blocks away, so it's VERY convenient for me to drop in for a workout whenever I…read morewant. They have all the machines and equipment you can possibly need for strength training. Downstairs, there is a spacious open room that's great for stretching and privacy for body weight exercises. Despite the "gym bro" culture, everyone is super respectful, minds their own business, and follows all appropriate etiquette/policies. CONS: It's the dirtiest gym I have ever visited, period. The women's' locker room is filthy and always smells. Most of the equipment leaves dark grime on your hands and clothes. There is often a long wait to use one of their two Smith machines. Also, lots of teenagers just hanging out on their phones and taking up space on machines instead of actually working out. TIPS: Try to avoid the busiest hours of Mon-Thu 5pm-7pm and wipe down everything before/after you use it, and you should have a solid experience.

There is also a steam room or sauna. The gym is a comfortable space overall. The prices are a little high unless you take advantage of the classes, which they are not offering right now. However, it's not easy to find a gym with equipment that's accessible and also in good working condition in queens! The gym reminds me of crunch in Manhattan.

They told me at the front desk that after Covid their trainers went to other places & they're starting new classes again soon. Fine, but Covid was in 2020. It's literally 4yrs later. Idk the way the front desk made it seem is like, they've been telling that story for a while now. It is actually "false advertisement" & why are we paying a high monthly fee for amenities that you don't even have? *In response to your message Rosa. LHF website shows a ton of classes that you don't have- which is false advertisement. Also, NO I did not have a consultation when joining, none of the 16yr olds you have at the front desk bothered to tell me anything they were too busy on tik tok & NO it's been 3 weeks and none of your trainers called for a free workout with them, I probably would have joined up for some 1 on 1 training but I'm over it now. Also, more than half of your treadmills are broke. Just an FYI.

The Early Childhood program at the YMCA is one to definitely consider if you have a young child…read more Their 3-K and Pre-K classes help with fundamental learning and questioning of several subjects such as math, science, and reading. With top qualified teachers and aids, lead by the program's Director Lois Rothstein, rest assured that your child will have a rewarding experience at the Y. They create an environment that fosters a love of learning and friendship. Like everything, beginnings can be hard but with 3-K teachers such as Ms. Marieta and Ms. Ruby, children embrace starting school everyday and anticipate the next. Ms. Miri and Ms. Elizabeth reinforce children's curiosity of learning and play in Pre-K through deeper exploration of the various subjects. Adding interactive play elements to engage children's sense of independence, focus and accomplishment. The Early Childhood Program at the YMCA is a hidden treasure in our community. Join the many students and parents that hoped it could continue through 8th grade. I highly recommend this program to all parents with young children.

As a black person, I felt so uncomfortable at this gym that I only went once, ended my membership…read morethe same day and after speaking with the Membership Director, received a full refund for the month that I paid for. I recently moved to Queens and switched my YMCA from Prospect Park to Flushing. This Y is a major downgrade from the Prospect Park location in so many ways. most importantly the staff. I went to the small pool to do water aerobics. I have a mini tripod that attach to my phone and I watch a YouTube video of water aerobics and follow along. I have done this at at lease 3 different gyms, and SEVERAL times at the Prospect Park YMCA with absolutely no issues whatsoever. As soon as I walk in, although there are many swimmers in the pool, the white lifeguard immediately notices me. She is across the room and starts YELLING at me. "There's no phones allowed in the pool That's the Y's policy!" I say "what policy? I didn't have any issues with the Prospect Park Y." She then yells back, "Well this ain't Prospect Park." Then I ask her what the issue is and she ANGRILY yells, "We're not going to be responsible if you mess up your phone." I reply that I wasn't expecting them to be responsible if I damage my phone and that I'll pit it further away from the water. She waves me off. Then she yells to one of the swimmers that inquired about what was going on "Phones aren't allowed! She's on her phone!' I yell, "Well get the manager if it's a problem." She taps the walkie talkie on her hip and cockily replies "Oh, he's coming!" The manager comes in and says "We can't have phones in the pool, it's against our policy." Then escorts me out of the pool. I was humiliated!!! After I got dressed, I asked him to show me where this policy is written. He could not. All he could say was "It's against our policy to have phones in the pool area and the locker rooms" and gave me his manager's card to contact. After contacting his manager, she explained that their policy is that phones aren't allowed in the locker room nor the pool to protect the member's privacy. In my opinion, this could've been handled MUCH better and it would've been if she didn't immediately see me as a Nefarious Negro up to no good. All the life guard needed to do was ask me what I was doing with the phone. Instead she immediately started yelling and got aggressively defensive. Should I have matched her energy, I would've been labeled the angry black woman, the aggressor and I would've probably been banned from the Y. This was an egregious micro aggression that left me extremely embarrassed and made me feel unsafe. I was escorted out like I was some shady black criminal that should've never had access to that space in the first place. To add to this, the gym is filthy. The pool area had crud on it, the locker rooms were also disgusting. It's also very old with the exception of the cardio room that was recently renovated. Parking is also horrible. If you are black, I would avoid this YMCA at all costs. Not only does the staff not know how to communicate policies properly, and it's clear that they themselves are unclear about the policy, but they come off as RACISTS. This location also has very few black members which could be why the lifeguard was so startled that a Negro was in the midst.
