I used these guys to refinance an auto loan because the rate was good. I did it all online and went into the branch for closing. I had an appointment for closing and waited only 5 min to be called. I can't just sign papers for an auto loan electronically like everywhere else? The branch locations are pretty far out. The closest south city location is on Watson, which is a good 15 min from downtown/Soulard. Also, loans cannot be paid from an external bank account directly unless a scheduled, monthly ACH transfer is manually set up. Otherwise, it has to be transferred to your FCCU checking account (has a fee and takes DAYS) then transferred to your loan. My experience: I needed $20,000 which was, of course, way less than the original loan. I make $150k/year (over 700 credit score), and they said my income wasn't sufficient. WHAT?! $8000/month net income isn't enough for a $20k loan? Luckily I have a second job and that income made it sufficient. I needed a salary over $200k to get a $20k car loan. The process was ok, I guess. They weren't overly helpful during the application, but it went smoothly. I just had to keep calling and asking about the status. I also opened a checking account to have a local option. Large deposits are held for about 5 business days which hasn't bothered me yet, but may bother some. Cashier's checks are free. read more

Worst Lender Experience - Avoid at All Costs! If I could give negative a million stars, I absolutely would. This has been hands down one of the worst experiences of my life. Six months ago, we purchased a vehicle through a dealer that used this lender, and ever since, it has been six months of absolute hell dealing with this company. It's been one issue after another, and just when I thought it couldn't get worse, trying to leave this lender and go elsewhere turned into a complete nightmare. They have a phone system designed to trap you--it recognizes your number and forces you into extremely long wait times. When you finally get through, you're met with disrespectful, rude, and unprofessional representatives. Their online banking is a literal joke, riddled with glitches and frustration. On top of that, they pile on charges and fees everywhere. Just paying my bill costs extra--a $6.95 "convenience fee" on top of the card fee. It's one big gimmick designed to drain your wallet. One time, I made a payment at the drive-thru and was given a receipt, but the payment was never posted. Two weeks later, after they called me about a missed payment, I brought in my receipt and had to make another payment just to avoid penalties. I could go on and on about the issues I've faced with this lender. This business is a disaster, and I urge anyone considering them to think twice. Fell on hard times. Had a car loan with them. One month behind and made a payment that they said was too late , so that's 2 months in their eyes. My boss called with me and said she would make a payment and pay one payment ahead they repossessed my car anyway. No option to pay up. Just refinance or pay off the loan. I've never ever had a bank or credit union treat me with such awfulness. They wouldn't work with me at all. No mistakes for them Makes a person feel terrible. Would not recommend this credit union. Horrible customer service. Do not recommend - I have an auto loan through First Community. It's so difficult to use their online banking, and the recurring payments scheduling is a nightmare. I tried to call and was transferred around three times (including a 15+ minute hold) before being told that I needed to go online and do it myself, and they couldn't help me. My husband and I have found ourselves in a financial crisis, so we ended up with some overdrafts. As expected we were hit with overdraft charges. However, some of the withdrawals were being blocked and resubmitted by the companies. For example, AT&T attempted to withdrawal a payment. It didn't go through. We had an overdraft charge. AT&T tried to send it through again and we had another overdraft charge. And then it happened a third time. We have three overdraft charge for the same attempted withdrawal. My husband called to see if we could get the duplicates removed and refunded. He was told they would "look into it". They haven't. I feel like this practice is unfair. One of the more poorly organized credit unions in St. Louis. Their customer service is atrocious. The customer experience is horrible & stressful. Representatives act as if they don't want to assist you. Tellers don't seem to know how their institution works and exactly how accounts are set up or how to properly apply payments. This can lead to a lot of errors and lost payments. Banking there is not user friendly for the customer. They make routine tasks too complicated, even in person. Came to make a payment on a loan and it was almost misapplied because the representative was confused about where the payment needed to go. We moved to Missouri a few years back and joined First Community since it was close and we could get debit cards immediately. We banked there for 4 years. I recently ended up filing for Bankruptcy. I own that and my mistakes with credit cards. After filing - First Community by company policy joyfully CLOSED every single account my name was on. Car loans - closed. Checking and Savings - closed. No warnings. My paycheck, my spouse's paycheck - all in limbo because they were set up for one account that was closed without our knowledge. Now we are scrambling to pay for food since our funds were locked up and frozen. FCU practices the art of cross collateralization, where if you make a mistake with one account, in this case my credit card, they take everything as collateral on it. They never mentioned the cross collateralization when I opened my credit card. Had I known I would never have used the credit card. read more

It seems as though they are just as terrible now as they have been over the last several years. This tells me that they have no intention of improving. Rude customer service reps/tellers, they appear to go out of their way to make it difficult for you to do business. My experience has found them to be non-empathetic to their customers...-almost gleefully wanting to make the situation harder to navigate than needed. I have been with First Community Credit Union for around a decade now, and have never once had an issue that they didn't go above and beyond to resolve. Every person on staff - in every branch locally, as well as online - has been empathetic, understanding, and proactive with whatever concerns or needs I bring them. Their loan services in particular are the best I've found. I briefly had to use another credit union when I moved out of state, and there was absolutely no comparison. I absolutely love her community credit Union. I have been banking with them since I've started banking. My mom used first community credit union and I have had absolutely wonderful customer service. Normally when I walk up to first community credit union, they greet me they know my name and everybody is so polite. Until recently when I've had some really nasty bank tellers, give me some attitude and I do not appreciate attitude from my bank tellers today I am very sick and I had to venture out of the house. If you have a busy life and/or work odd hours this is NOT the credit union for you! I'm attempting to make my first payment towards an auto loan and First Community has made it nearly impossible. First, I tried to make a payment by logging in to my online account. Despite entering the correct answers to the security questions it repeatedly sent me back to the login page. When I chose the option to have a security code texted to me, it never came. Then, I called to make a payment over the phone and they essentially would not talk to me (or take my money) because I couldn't remember the password (which is different than your online login password) I made over a month ago in the middle of all the other information there is to account for when buying a new vehicle. Now I cannot pay my bill or login to my account without visiting a branch. The closest branch is at least a 20 minute drive and I work 12 hour night shifts...so yea, not super convenient or customer friendly at all. Do NOT recommend. read more

You know you are in for life (or a really, really long time) with someone if you open a checking/savings account together. It took quite a bit of convincing, but after some deep breaths and logical arguments, Mike T got me to First Community Credit Union on a recent Saturday morning. Our Customer Service Rep was, from what we could tell, the most knowledgeable gal in this branch. Every few minutes, someone would interrupt us and and ask her a question. Totally fine, it just took us twice as long to open the account. And her last name was "Knuckles", which is almost uncanny, considering the fact that she works in a bank. I suggest that she gets transferred to the Collections department :) Mike T is a fan of First Community because he earns quite a bit of interest on his checking account. I'm all for earning interest, but we probably spend that 4% on the gas getting there. The closest branch is on Watson, almost in Shrewsbury. We have the ability to do a lot of our banking online, but making deposits is kind of a pain. The other locations are even further out, like Ballwin. Unless I'm making a trip to Garden Ridge, there's no need for me to drive all the way out there. But in terms of service and quality, First Community seems to be alright. I have an auto financed with FCCU and it is extremely difficult to make your payments unless you have a checking account with them. I recently faced some financial difficulty resulting in me having to make my payment 27 days late. I accessed their web site as I normally do to make my payment and I was unable to access my loan to pay it. When I called the corporate location I was told that when an account goes over 20 days late they lock it from accepting payments on line. my only options are to pay over the phone and incur a $15.00 fee or go into a branch and pay. If I go into the branch and pay but don't have a paper check then I have to first go to my financial institute and withdraw cash to make my payment. I truly don't understand why they would ever block any account from being able to accept online payments. Especially an account that is late. read more

Acquired an auto loan through this bank. 3 times have sent them proof of insurance. Now 3 months later they have force-placed insurance on my car. Every time they sent a letter (once a month) I have uploaded or emailed them proof of insurance and each time says it's processing. Never hear anything back. Today I call and ask why they never called me to tell me there was a problem and she says they don't call for security reasons, even to let me know if the situation gets resolved. Do not fall for their "promotions"! I have been a member here for several years and have had no problems! However, I recently refinanced my auto loan with them because they were giving $100 for a refinance promotion! The longest process ever! I had to talk to 3 different employees on 3 different occasions to get this thing rolling, like I was buying a house or something! So I get approved, and 2 weeks go by and I still did not receive my $100 promotion like they advertised! Out of the 3 employees I talked to, not 1 of them told me that I was not qualified for the promotion, not 1 out of 3! I had to call them to find out that I did not qualify for the promotion because my loan was not under $4,000. I tried getting a mortgage from them and they led me on for a whole month, kept asking for documentation, which I have proof that I sent them in a timely manner when asked, then the loan officer Mario refused to answer my calls or emails and I haven't ever heard back from them once they received all my documentation. I have been a member of First Community Credit Union for roughly 20 years. My account started as a "Youth Savers Account" and has gone through many permutations since then. Nowadays I have a First Rate Checking Account, which is absolutely awesome. The premise is that you earn a high rate of interest (4.01%) as long as you complete a small list of monthly requirements (12 swipes of your debit card, 1 ACH payment, paperless statements). For me, this means that I make roughly enough money to fill my gas tank every month just in interest alone AND they also refund all of my ATM fees, should I incur any. Aside from their great selection of high yield accounts, I also very much enjoy the family atmosphere of their branches, especially the Watson & Chippewa location. The staff is friendly and it is the kind of place where you get the same teller every time that you go in. This was really nice when I used to manage two personal accounts and a business account with them. Not having to re-explain my setup to a different teller every time was fantastic. The only real con that I have experienced with First Community is that they have a limited number of branches and none downtown, but at the end of the day I'd rather drive a little farther to make the most of my money and deal with nice people. They also have been adding a couple of new branches every year like wildfire, so it is only a matter of time before they are everywhere. Oh, and for you Commerce Bank folks who still have to have a minimum balance of like $200, all First Community accounts carry only a $1 minimum balance! read more

I hate to do it, but I'm docking two stars due to First Community's recent ATM "upgrade." I received a lot of checks as holiday gifts, so I visited the ATM at this location late one night to deposit them. I was excited to see a sign saying that the credit union had recently upgraded the ATM, which now featured check-scanning ability. This means that you can just put your checks into the ATM and have it scan and deposit them instead of grouping and adding your checks by hand, stuffing them into a deposit envelop that you have to fill out and pushing them through the ATM. I've seen this successfully implemented at other financial institutions, and it's supposed to be a time saver. It's not a time saver at First Community, though. I learned the hard way that I had to do a different transaction for each check. That meant that I had to swipe my debit card, put in my password, click through the various menus, insert the check and get a receipt 14 TIMES because that's how many checks I had. No, the ATM will NOT let you scan all of your checks as part of the same transaction. Yes, the car behind you WILL honk its horn as you take 10 minutes at the ATM, even at 10:30 p.m. Yes, you WILL take some solace while you verrrry slowly drive away and hear that car's driver curse as he pulls up and realizes what he has to do. That's not where the problems end, though. The ATM wasn't able to read all of my checks. You would assume that it might have a problem with hand-written ones, right? Wrong. The ATM couldn't read my checks from companies and other financial institutions. Printed checks. Computer-generated checks. That means that I'll have to find time to walk into a branch, wait in line and deposit these checks in person - something I haven't done in years. Worse: I can only get to branches on Saturdays, and my Saturdays already are quite booked. Realistically, these checks may never get cashed. The check-scanning ATMs are a great concept. But someone didn't think all the way through it OR have actual users test and offer feedback on the new system. It's sad - especially because First Community's customer service generally is wonderful and their rates are great - but in this era of auto-everything and mondo-busyness, I'm now considering changing credit unions so that I can actually deposit items at ATMs properly. read more

I've been with these guys for years and I stay because they have great overdraft protection and they're relatively close. The folks working at the Gravois location are friendly and helpful for the most part. Other than that, these guys have some serious issues. First, the bank performs some sort of maintenance each night at odd hours. When this happens, your online account is inaccessible and more importantly YOUR CARD WILL NOT WORK anywhere other than an ATM. You cannot use it otherwise. This seems to be between the hours of 10:30pm-2am. I can think of at least a half dozen times this has screwed me over. I then have to go to an ATM and pay a fee to pull out the cash and then use my money. Second, if you ever need any type of phone customer service, forget about it. We're talking a MINIMUM of 20-30 minute wait time and usually much, much more. Time to hire more people in the call center, folks. It's too bad because I have enjoyed my time with STLCCU, but I'm now looking for a new CR/bank due to these frankly unacceptable issues. read more

As the new treasurer of a local nonprofit organization, I recently opened a business account at First Community. I can't believe the service we received! David, the branch manager, was very helpful and patient. When we first arrived, we were promptly greeted. We were invited into David's office and showed him the paperwork we had available. He determined we needed to take care of some previous business prior to our opening of the account. During the next week, the president of the organization and I took care of the issues David found. We returned the next week and found that there were issues with the registration of the organization. David was so helpful. He emailed us all of the information we needed to clean up the registration and tax information for the organization. He could have just told us we didn't have our act together and show us the door. Instead, he took the time to really help us out to ensure all of the paperwork was in order. I highly recommend this branch. They are a bit of a drive from my house but I will continue doing business here. read more

I've been a customer of First Community Credit Union for roughly 2 years. I have a low limit credit card, personal loan, and car loan with them. Today, I called their customer service line and asked to make payments on my loans. I was told I have to visit a branch to make a payment on my CC and cannot do it over the phone. This is during a pandemic in which I will have to touch the tube that everyone else has touched to make a payment. This endangers not only myself but my entire family. In my life I've belonged to three credit unions and this one is at the bottom of that list. Customer service is mediocre, no one goes above and beyond or is exceptional in my mind. Having said that, I would say that I prefer one branch (Gravois Bluff) over the Arnold branch. They are not comparable in size, the Arnold branch is much smaller. The Gravois Bluff members just seem happier. I'm looking to transfer my money to another credit union fairly soon. Just to be clear, I've never been to the Watson address listed here.
