This is the first and oldest Serbian Church in the United States and Canada. The construction of the church started early in 1894. The church bell was presented to the church by the Russian Bishop, the Rt. Reverend Nikola. This church sure stands out. A few years ago my mom was visiting me and we saw the church from the street above and we were determined to find it. This is one gem you won't want to miss. I've taken the kids here a few times now. Within its time many events have happened. Many loved ones have died. Many loved ones have been born. Best time to do this is at their vespers service. No, I'm not Serbian, and certainly not orthodox, but this place is just unbelievable. It's a little known fact that this is the very first church of its kind in America, built in the early 1890's.....the mother church for that faith, and it's a stunner, and a visual standout as you come over the hill to descend into the town of Jackson and look slightly to the left. (Jackson was also home to the first synagog in California, right around the corner, at what is now the elementary school. )They also have the St. Sava Serbian mission campgrounds on the other side of town where Serbs gather every year over 4th of July weekend for an annual event that's fun and has real cultural significance.

Pastor Tom made our ceremony absolutely amazing. The church is old and quaint and in the little town of Sutter Creek. Since I grew up in the town, I thought it would be great to get married there too. There is a great brides room to get dressed in and Samantha the Wedding Hostess made everything easy. The service ran like clockwork... You can feel God's presence in the Church and we will always feel like this church is a home away from home. This is a very loving community church and very welcoming. If you are in the area, please stop by for a service.

However, I've been attending The Call Church for over 5 years now and every pastor and guest pastor and worship set was more than enough to keep me rooted in God's word and the community. Not to mention, the youth ministry has made me who I am today and I'm proud of that. If you're looking for a loosely thrown together church with no connection to the community, and no drive to help better people's lives, this isn't the church for you.
