I love that you see a diversity of ages and families in the church. Services start with a time of worship- very contemporary with lights, screens to see the words, etc. Senior pastor David Chadwick preaches from the Word of God. And then the service closes with another worship song. The Southpark campus pastor, Jonathan Scott is also awesome and will preach when David is away, etc. The church has small groups called "Life Groups" and you can get connected at any time, but check the website for "Life Group Connect" where you can meet all the life group leaders and get plugged into a group immediately. There is a wonderful children's ministry during the service and middle school/high school meet Sunday nights for what is called "Advance" If you are visiting or new to the church, stop by the info booth and they will answer any questions you have.

When it comes to elements of value, the teaching is gospel-focused, intentionally grounded in the bible, and completely God-centered. The worship is reverent, fun, talented, and God-focused. There is a real sense of love for God and a desire for authentic community. Two things my wife and I must have in our choice of a local spiritual family. If you are curious about faith and want to learn more about the truth Christianity claims, Forest Hill is a great place to start that journey.

However, the USHERS/VOLUNTEERS give you an entirely different experience than what is being preached about. They will speak loudly during the sermon, try to carry on a conversation with you during the sermon, compare what the minister did/said during his 8:00 versus his 11:15 sermons, distract you, make you give up your chair for people who arrive more than an hour late for service (when you are deep into the message and are in need of it) then make you seem like you are the problem, etc. There is a disconnect. I've noticed this problem when there is a Black manager in charge of people who don't take him or their jobs seriously. They sabotage him.

Center City seems to advocate respect for worship and kind love, not oppressive rules -- but a will to follow God's desires. Everyone is welcome to partake in communion (or not if you're not there yet! again, I've never felt judged here) and the church is working hard to be a staple in helping the community. I've only been attending for a short time, but I've made many friends and enjoy and learn from every message. If you're new to Charlotte, curious to attend a new church, or are new to Christianity, these folks make the potentially nerve racking adventure a relaxed endeavor into learning about God and becoming part of the community. Sunday service is held at 10am at Elizabeth Elementary. OH and there's free coffee provided by Central Coffee (yum) and kids' classes (which also help parents focus better during the message!).

As an introvert, large crowds can be a lot for me, but I truly felt the Spirit of God, his presence. The people were kind, welcoming, and even prayed for me. Though I usually watch the 9:30 service online (since 2019!), being there in person felt like leaving family when I walked out the doors. Elevation is a place for everyone--the old, the young, and those in between. I'm still working on my concerns with large crowds, but I know I'll be back. I am hoping to one day meet the pastor and his wife. They are such wonderful people. For now, I'm grateful to keep worshiping online until I'm ready again. Elevation is truly a wonderful church home.

However,…read moreafter visiting and engaging in several fellowships over the past 20+ years of living in North Carolina, Watershed has found a home in my heart since 2011. Why? They don't pretend to have all the answers and they are comfortable with a God who is at times mysterious, frustrating, and hidden. Matt and Scott (co-pastors) share speaking duties and have remarkably crafted a relationship with God, their families, and each other that is transparent and void of internal competition. I like that. I rarely come away from their talks without something in which to wrestle. I take comfort in knowing I am both loved by God and encouraged to drop anchor and fish this spot I'm in a little longer. When I slow down, I've discovered it is there I might feel the tug on my line and hope there is something bigger on the other end (pardon the fishing metaphor). Watershed provides a platform for this to happen for me.

"Drove past this church and I thought it looked great and that I should check it out. However, when I checked out their website I saw that they support and affirm LGBTQ. This is a big red flag for me. The church should love those people but never affirm what they believe. Jesus spoke truth with love, and the truth is that homosexuality is a sin. We do not affirm sin. They built the only hospital in Charlotte for Black people which later became Carolinas Healthcare and Atrium. They established the original soup kitchen that is now one of the largest, if not the largest, nonprofit organization for feeding the poor and homeless. They established homeless shelters for men and women which have become the largest shelters in the region. Instead of "Club Christian" where they build enormous sports facilities and other facilities for their own member, they poor their time, money and resources into the community. The reason why there's no steeple on the church? The money raised went to build Good Samaritan Hospital, a hospital nearby for Black members of the community who were not allowed to go to Charlotte Community Hospital (now Atrium!). This church is a community of caring people who follow the words of Jesus (love and serve others. Period.) and don't waste their time on condemning others. On my first visit there one of the things that stood out to me most was that the church was filled with people from different racial backgrounds and economic backgrounds, from rich to homeless, and everyone was welcome! I joined that day in 1997, just weeks after relocating to Charlotte, and have been a member ever since. I'm very proud to call St. Peter's home!
