She told me it was not her problem and that I needed to get refunded through Living Social-Keep in mind LivingSocial had just sent me a reminder email letting me know to book my appointment with her so on their end that was not the case- I will spare the details but all in all it was the worst customer service I've ever received in my life from a business owner and I never got the chance to give her business a try nor do I want to after the way she handled things. In through the barbershop entrance and down the funky spiral staircase -…read morearriving at Manifest is a bit of an adventure.  But, once you are there - you will have an excellent dinner.  The food was delicious and the service was so good that it creates a wonderful environment.  That is the goal of Manifest 002 and they definitely meet this objective.  We started with a dark n stormy cocktail and a guava juice.  Both were very tasty and refreshing.  My only suggestion is one I find I give often which is to please not add too much ice to the drinks because it just dilutes them really fast.  We started with an endive and Asian pear Caesar salad.  We really enjoyed the forward anchovy flavor.  The pear was subtle but it was nice to have it there.  The fried green tomato was so crispy and there was a great hint of heat.  The bacon added an extra boost (who ever says no to bacon?!) and all in all, it was a tasty mix of flavors and textures.  The king crab and black truffle mac & cheese was also warm comfort food.  I didn't get too much crab flavor but the creamy mac & cheese and the crunchy topping were great.  Another favorite was the smoked brisket.  So tender and so delicious.  We enjoyed the addition of sunchokes to the plate which are not something we get to eat that often.  Lastly, the key lime tiramisu was sooooo good.  So much lime flavor it made you want to eat it really slowly and just taste every bite.  It was a generous portion and very rich so we took part of it home to savor another day.  It was still tasty but, note to self, meringue melts away a bit as a leftover.  Still really good though. It just stated i was "removed from the system"- which clearly isnt true as I received a BOGO promo text from them a couple of hours ago. I blocked the other number after that initial text because it was distasteful and lacked accountability... i have no interest in a private "discussion" with a business that deflects blame for a medical infection onto the customer. regarding the infection, the blistering and pain requiring antibiotics started within 48 hours which is a timeline that points to procedural negligence NOT aftercare. I have 13 other piercings and know the protocol very well. blaming "ear trauma" and aftercare is just a way to avoid taking responsibility for poor technique and a complete lack of professional standards. I dont need a private phone call to explain that the negligence happened in the chair, not at home. the responsibility for what went wrong lies entirely with John's actions, not my aftercare. Leaving both my review and the owner's response visible so others can see the full exchange and decide for themselves. my intention is not retaliation, it's transparency. UPDATE 1: after my review i received a text from the other owner, Toy. ORIGINAL REVIEW (1/22/26): i had an awful experience at this shop and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. i came in as a walk-in and the owner John, who did my piercings, talked about being overwhelmed and frustrated by how busy it had gotten. it made me feel like he was rushing and i wish i had just went elsewhere as it was clearly rushed. it was all downhill from there i came in for 3 new piercings and John made repeated, SERIOUS mistakes. one piercing had to be done TWICE because he admitted he pierced it at the WRONG ANGLE!! and another, he stopped right before and questioned whether the area had been cleaned (I told him it hadn't). for my daith, he immediately said he used the WRONG SIZE NEEDLE for the jewelry and whatever he did to force the jewelry in was EXTREMELY painful!!! WTF I literally can't make this up! NONE of it was properly done or handled with care at ALL. the entire process was chaotic, careless and unsafe. Additionally, when i asked him to swap out an existing jewelry piece (arguably the easiest part of this appt), he didn't notice my baby /sideburn hair was getting caught in the thread of the jewelry... which was uncomfortable and easily avoidable. I only found out when i tried to tuck my hair back and couldn't because it was so tangled... an easily avoidable mistake if he was actually paying attention. With my daith there was excessive bleeding and a lot of unnecessary handling of my ear. the pain is far beyond anything ive EVER experienced, not even exaggerating. i already have multiple cartilage piercings (tragus, conch, rook) and have gotten 3 ear piercings, at once, on two other occasions and have absolutely never had anything like this happen. my ear is severely swollen and i had to seek medical treatment- taking a prescription antibiotic 4 times a day and round-the-clock ibuprofen. i am including several photos because the swelling speaks for itself. i feel obligated to be honest because this wasn't just a bad experience, it felt negligent. the owner also offered a confusing discount that didn't even match his own pricing policy but no amount of money excuses the throbbing pain and infection i am now treating.

I briefly patronized this salon back when it was known as "Hair Is Art" and was located in the…read moresalon suites in L'Enfant Plaza, shortly before it moved to this new Mt. Rainier location. This review has been a long time in the making, but I'm finally going back and rating places that have been on my "to do" list for forever and a day! I recall that Ny is a skilled curly hair stylist who stayed booked and busy. She specializes in DevaCuts and working with curly hair. She was the only true stylist on site, but she employed a rotating cadre of trainees who were responsible for shampooing your hair and doing parts of your style. In some ways, it almost felt like you were getting your hair done in a beauty school -- where less skilled novices were being supervised as they learned the ropes on your head. I didn't like that particular aspect of the service, as you never knew what assistant would be working with you on a particular day and you were paying full price for Ny's skill all the same. The space was also crowded in that there were always multiple people in the small space at the same time. While Ny was working on another client in the adjoining room, there'd be people sitting around who were drying their hair, in the queue for shampooing, or in the middle of a style. So it wasn't the most comfortable and relaxing experience, and it definitely wasn't personalized to you. (That said, it's possible that these issues may have been remedied in the newer salon space.) I visited the shop on at least two occasions, maybe three. I remember being pleased with my initial cut. And I definitely remember going back to get another wash and go on at least one occasion. But I just remember that my last wash and go ended up flaking up quite a bit, and I had all these white particles in my hair from the mix of products used. I was supposed to go back and get that fixed, but if I recall correctly -- work was so busy at that time that I never had a chance to go back over there and get it rectified. I had also bought a bunch of products on that last visit that I truly didn't know how to use in my own at-home regimen. (In fact, several of those products ended up being part of a massive recall years later. Thank God I never used mine.). And I had bought a salon visit package in an effort to save a bit of money on future services. I think I had 6 visits or something like that in my package. But between the craziness of work and the start of COVID, I didn't end up going back to the salon for quite a while. When I got some emails saying that salon had relocated to Mt. Rainier, that jogged my memory about my package and I sought to use them to schedule a visit at the new place. But I was told that my package had expired and that I would have to pay for more visits in order to come. Ummmm....no! My experience in the old salon had already been "borderline" at best. I was not willing to commit even more money to this particular salon. So that was the end of my experience with "Hair is Art" / "Ny the Stylist."

Okay, we all get out our phones to show our vaccine cards. As we are doing this, she asks us to step outside of the door so she can seat a walking guest. We left due to her attitude saying that she didn't want us there. On the way out, I recommended signage to communicate the Covid policies which seems like business 101. We are homeowners in this neighborhood and trying to support the new local businesses. This is not one worth supporting, sadly.
