I have been summering on Campobello Island for just over 30 years and am so happy to report that The Fireside Restaurant, formerly known as The Campobello Lodge, has been opened as of this summer season! The Fireside is located on a hillside overlooking the Bay of Fundy - completely unobstructed views of Welshpool village and Eastport, ME across the bay. The inside of the lodge is spacious and it boasts additional seating on the outdoor deck (definitely a must if you are dining during nice weather). The server we had was extremely friendly and apologetic right of the bat as one of the waitresses in the restaurant had just been injured (an accidental burn) and they were caught short staffed at the moment. With that said, our server was as courteous as can be and there was no real wait time in our ordering or service so she did very well considering the circumstances. We chose to sit indoors as it was quite sunny but had one of the front window tables making it feel as though we were out on the deck. I had the Fundy lobster wrap along with a glass of pinot grigio. The wrap was made with a touch of tarragon, a nice accent to the sweet, richness that is lobster. The pinot grigio was pleasant and crisp, perfect for the summer day. My only less than wonderful comment was the dessert - I had the blueberry galette, which was nothing to write home about. I think I should have the raspberry cobbler which received rave reviews from my aunt and uncle who were dining with me. The view is priceless, the service prompt and friendly, and the food was very tasty. According to my aunt - her French onion soup was "the best she had ever eaten in her life". If you are up visiting the beautiful Campobello Island, do make a point to stop in and support this newly reopened restaurant! One note to drinkers - though they have a nice wine by the glass selection, and offer an "FDR martiini" - their bar selection was still in the ramping up phase. Though they were happy to make whatever they could with what they had stocked, it might be take them this season to iron out what they will offer from a hard liquor standpoint. read more

We stayed in Lubec and the Fireside Restaurant became our "go to" restaurant for lunch. The lobster roll, haddock chowder and salmon special were outstanding. We've heard rumors that they are switching to a cafeteria style venue but the food and service we received was the best. read more

I was excited to try this place. The view looked worth the stop in and of itself. So here's the rub. We couldn't sit out on the deck due to short staff. Are you kidding me?! Okay. Just breathe. The house red was good. My bf totally enjoyed the crusty bread. The chowder was good. The lobster thermidor... not so great. The spice combo didn't work for me. Although the cream sauce would work great over the bland veggies. Rice was good. My bf got the salmon. He was disappointed; he noted that my salmon is much better. Cheesecake for dessert; it was creamy good. The service was great until a few tables filled. We were then semi-neglected. I got up and waited outside so I could enjoy the view although it was denied during the meal. Not a winner in our book. read more

A pleasant atmosphere, good location, little competition, and excellent service made up for lackluster food. The salmon was overdressed in maple and sesame, while the "Moroccan" tagine had all the sensuous exotic zip that you'd expect in New Brunswick... This place used to be great, food and service. However, they have decided to make the food and service cafeteria style. The quality of the food has decreased from what it was in the past. It is okay. The prices are too high for the quality of the food. I had the pasta, someone else had chicken and it was dry. The others The problem is there are not any options to eat in the island. The service was very good and they were friendly. I would eat somewhere else before coming to the island. Lubec has some better choices. read more

Had to go for lunch one more time until next year. This time we had Tina W as our server. We think Tina is the most attentive server yet and doesn't forget things you order. My wife had the soup du jour which was harvest vegetable. Again the soups are excellent which seems to be the usual deal. We had our usual prime rib burger, and again it was excellent. The view is great. Our server was polite and efficient. We had salmon and scallops dinners. The seafood was okay though not great. This is notable given that you are in a seaside location with a lively fishing industry - we expected better. Lots of potato. Salad was just okay. It was around 8 pm when we finished and the restaurant advertised itself as open until 9 pm. However, before we even got to the end of the driveway after leaving, a van from the Fireside quite literally raced down the drive, sending dust everywhere, and one of the servers jumped out and yanked down the Open sign. After the hefty tip we left, it made us feel as if they could not wait for us to be gone. We literally were not yet out of the driveway. Not a good final note. Even beyond how it made us feel, in a tourist location, this seems particularly shortsighted. What if someone were planning on dropping in for dinner before 9 pm? They would find the place closed. Regular hours are expected by most people, especially when you're traveling and there are as few options as there are on this island. I don't think we will be back, given the mediocre food coupled with questionable management. read more

Go here for the view of the ocean (Eastport is across the way) and for the ridiculous interior decor (Moose heads! What a surprise!). Maybe get a cup of chowder and a beer. It's pretty standard, cafeteria-like fare. read more

Enjoyed a lunch with family and friends while visiting the park Monday. We have been here before, when it was not a part of the park. Our food was excellent and the service good. We enjoyed fish chowder which was tasty if a little thin. Our other appetizer was smoked salmon, served with a divine horseradish also good. The fishcakes made of salmon and haddock were very good. Breaded scallops were "Great." Both the haddock burger and the battered haddock were excellent. The side of garlic bread was perfectly seasoned. Everyone reached over table to get at the fries. The wine list is limited and requires careful selection. The service didn't quite reach the level of the food, but was more than acceptable and courteous. read more

I can find nothing wrong with this establishment and I hope they make a go of it. Of course we went on a picture perfect day and any food tastes good with great ocean views clear sky and just right temperatures. My lobster roll was loaded with lobster meat. The cream of cauliflower soup may have lacked taste but I do not have a great experience with that soup. Hubby's chef salad was full of ingredients and looked very fresh. I'm only giving one star because giving zero stars was not an option. I wouldn't waste my time dining here. The waitress brought water for us to the table and my cup had a lip print on it from someone other than me! I had the days special which was a Trio Pizza and a side for $12. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity (maybe 15 minutes) we finally got out food and the pizza was NOT hot and was the quality of a Torino's frozen pizza. We were so excited to find such a nice looking restaurant. It's looks is all we got to enjoy. The 8 of us stood ignored for 20 min or more as the hostess rang up the paying customers and repeatedly ran to the back. Not once did she make eye contact or speak to us. The place was more than half empty and we could have easily sat anywhere, it's not as if she knew we were all together. Finally she asked where we'd like to sit and that she would have to find someone to help her clean off some tables. There were still empty tables. So off she went to get help....there was someone doing it already. Then another waitress came up to us and informed me that they had a table of 11 and a table of 6 and the others so we'd be waiting a very long time. We went to the Fisheries. yummy there. read more

I had high hopes for this restaurant, as there are few to no upscale dining options in Lubec or Campobello, and the lovely decor made me hopeful. However, the decor was the only good thing at this restaurant. The menu was boring, with very few seafood dishes and nothing that seemed to be inspired by local ingredients or by the history of the park. Although it was June when we were there, it was still quite chilly at dinnertime (around 50 degrees F). Despite the chilly temperatures, several windows were wide open. I soon found out why I was being subjected to the weather; any time the windows were closed, the restaurant filled with smoke from the fireplace. Seriously, you name your restaurant "Fireside" and can't figure out how to work the fireplace? (Note: I asked around afterwards, and this was not a one-time occurrence, this is a constant issue.) We ordered sparkling water, which was brought promptly. Our order was then taken; I ordered salad. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. For 40 minutes. Not once did our waiter come by, not to tell us it would be a while or to ask if we needed anything. We were not brought bread, although other tables were. So after 40 minutes of alternatingly being frozen and being blinded by smoke, being starved, and being ignored, we threw a few bucks on the table for the waters and left. No one even acknowledged us as we left. I have never walked out of a restaurant before, and this was undoubtedly my worst restaurant experience ever. It's such a shame that this restaurant is so poor, it could be a real gem. It's just not. read more

This is an extremely pretty restaurant (moose head over the fireplace) with a great view of Friar's Bay. It's a restored structure with great outdoor patio. It's run by the Roosevelt Campobello Park people, and it's still trying to get its systems and customs down. The chef is new. The staff is friendly, but seems in the evening a little overwhelmed. One night we had the seafood lasagna which came a little cool, and ordinary. One of our group had the inside still cold and had to send his back. We also had the burgers another night. Because of mad cow disease all burgers are cooked medium well in the Province, but the rib eye beef held up to the overcooking. The salads seemed as if they'd been prepared and chilled, so they were less appetizing than they would have been if they'd been assembled when ordered. The soup, (carrot) was the best thing about either meal, and this chef seems to excel in soups generally. A good restaurant is needed on the Island so I hope they can get everything working by next summer. read more
