I love painting pottery and I have been here several times over the years. But the pottery selection was absolutely unacceptable today! There was still pieces that I had already painted years ago. I hope they get different pieces because I made a reservation and I didn't even paint because I already had everything. Very disappointing. What a sweet little place in the heart of downtown. It's like a calm and creative oasis amiss the beautiful chaos. Upon entering staff greeted us and explained the process. They have a nice balance of leaving you be while also making sure they are available to help. You select a piece to paint and then grab some pint. They have a very organized set up- this place has been here forever. I even remember going 8+ years ago. You can see all the colors after they're done so you get a good idea. The supplies are organized and plentiful. After you paint your piece (make sure to do many coats) you leave it on the table and they fire it for you and let you know when to come back and pick it up. I really like that they have great spaces for everyone to sit and work. The music is good, there's food and coffee nearby and the tables are comfortable. Nobody rushes you. What a great way to spend a morning or afternoon. They also have other art I've never done but it looks awesome (ex-glasswork). And a kids pottery summer camp (cute). Super fun way to spend some time. You can paint pottery or paint canvas or do fused glass in a single sitting. There are other things you can do also that you might have to come by a few times. I've wanted to come here since the last time I was in Asheville ( I think a lot of my review's start like this? ) a few months ago. I've done glass fusing at the Corning museum of glass in NY and love it. I was trying to make a field of wildflowers, which definitely looked better in my mind, and hubby made a sailboat ( my idea! ). See the pics below. I'll also post pics of the finished items when we receive them. I also love that they have other stuff to do like pottery painting! And their stuff is totally different than Dish it Out in Charlotte! Fun and creative pace for young and old alike. You can do glass art, paint pottery or glass mosaic. Everything is explained and once done, they will ship it to you, if you are not local. My kids loved the options, cutting the glass, gluing them to the glass substrate and arranging the colors. I preferred the pottery painting but note with pottery there is a slight "studio fee" for the glazing and firing. Everything is mailed to wherever you live for $15. I love crafty store. This one is a most! We paint pottery. They have aprons, nice tables with water and paint brush and they explain you how to paint and how it will look. They have a good variation of paint, stencils, brush, sponges, glass and you can also booked a class for doing your own mud pottery. Best of all they can ship you hour art after being finished for a flat rate! The place was packed of birthday party, families and couples. Is a nice way of having a good memory. read more

We found this place as we walked around Asheville. I have gone to a similar shops like this before so I pretty much knew how it works. You find a piece of their pottery that you like to paint up. The folks there go through the process of teaching how the paint works and all the different ways you can apply it to the piece of pottery you chose. And then you just follow your muse to what you want to do. There are a lot of great samples around the shop to help you come up with ideas. These folks had lots of templates, spinning wheels and such to help you make your design. And the folks were great on giving tips and pointers on what works better. But in our case we already had a design and we attempted to duplicate something similar onto my buddy's new water bowl. Since all the paint has to dry they will happily ship it to us when it is finished. This is a great date place, A night out on the town, or just something to do instead of shopping all the time. Fired up is an Asheville staple! I remember painting pottery there when I was a kid and I'm so glad it is still downtown. There is nothing like it in our town. You can stop in any time and just paint! By yourself or with a group it is so much fun. I went last week with my co workers at around 6 and we brought our own wine and ordered a pizza (which they encouraged). The women working had great suggestions and techniques and our pieces came back in less than a week! I recommend stopping in if you want to just do something fun and different. read more

This place is simply WONDERFUL!! I've been to many ceramics workshops but this place is special. The man who was working last night - Gary (the owners brother, I think) was so helpful, patient, friendly and calm that he made our visit very enjoyable and fun. We were eating dinner next door but our dinner took FOREVER to arrive and the kids (ages 8 & 10) just couldn't sit still!! So, they stayed at the pottery workshop (unsupervised) while my husband and I waited to eat. Gary not only didn't mind having them there without supervision, he was so kind and helpful to them both!!! They have so many pieces to select from, wonderful colors and the prices are very reasonable. I would recommend this special place to anyone living in, passing through or visiting Asheville!! My child has been three times and each time there has been some type of miscommunication with the salespeople. When our caregiver took my child in today, it was the caregiver's first visit so she asked the salesperson to explain the process and the cost. The salesperson said, "$6 for kids and you can choose any piece to paint on the lower level." After they picked a piece and painted it, they went to pay. $26! It turns out the $6 is the "studio fee" and it is added to the individual cost of the painted piece, which varies by size. Why wasn't that clearly explained when our caregiver asked? I'm "fired up" about their customer service enough to never come back. read more

Stopped in here on a rainy afternoon looking for something fun to do. The amount of art supplies at this store is impressive and allowed for lots of creativity. Since we were from out of town, our products had to be shipped to us. We were assured this would happen within 15 days; however it did not and when we finally got our pieces, they had little cracks or spots in them that should not have been there. Not sure their "fired up" process is all that great. read more

What a cute little find! I went here with a group of girls for a special occasion, and we had a blast. As far as fees go, you pay the studio and the object you're going to paint. Prices vary for objects depending on size, detail, etc. The girl working was very helpful in paint selection, telling us amateurs which colors would come out of the kiln well, which would look good on the things we were painting, etc. It takes few days to a week for your works of art to be fired. They'll call you when it's ready for pickup. Or ship if your from out of town. If you're going with a group, I recommend making reservations because you will get a discount with a group reservation. read more
