I felt safe as a babe wrapped in his mother's arms as Casey piloted us through the impenetrable rainstorm, telling stories and educating us about bourbon all the way. We had a few appointments to maintain... Casey's intimate knowledge of all the distilleries allowed him to steer us in the right direction, as locations closed due to power failures and flooding and the sins of man. He picked us up from Louisville both days and took us to different areas based on the planned itinerary (one day east with stops to Woodford reserve and one day south with stops to maker's mark). The car was an SUV, clean and comfortable. Casey was a great driver. He was friendly, great conversation and had interesting tips and side detours to fill out gaps in the itinerary (ask for the sausage biscuit from the gas station for breakfast if it's on your way). They also work with you creating an itinerary during the planning stage. Would highly recommend anyone that wants to plan a custom distillery tour.

The property is lovely and the perfect setting for our picnic and mingling. Event sold 1,000 tickets and provided plenty of room to spread out and still see the stage. Entrance was easy to find and lovely long paved roadway lined with mature trees. Parking was a bit precarious on the grass due to some ruts, but we navigated this slow and steady to avoid ripping out the car's oil pan or busting a tie rod (another sad historical tale ...) We plan to return soon to tour more of the property, including the house.

The inn is beautiful and well appointed with everything you might need, and then some. The bed is quite comfortable, complete with buttery soft high end linens. The most expensive whiskey I ever tasted was the Dalmore King Alexander III. A roughly $300 bottle,…read moreand a shot that cost at least $40. I was celebrating a promotion, don't judge! The second most expensive was the Mizunara whiskey from Boundary Oak, a $250 bottle. It's made with staves from a rare Japanese tree, that has to be at least 200 years old before it can be used. It truly imparts a one-of-a-kind flavor. This was included in the premium package, which lets you try some terrific and 'fancy' stuff for $30. You also get an etched glass to take home. Gerry was a great tasting guide! He was very knowledgeable about the products, and how they may be best enjoyed, including a whiskey that needed to sit for a bit to open up. I also want to give some extra credit, as when I asked about their "Sinful 69" bottle, he poured a little sample for me, and called over the other folks who were doing the tasting to try it also. Alas, I did not have an opportunity this time around to see the inner workings of distillation, but as I understand it, this is more an explanation that tour through the production area. With this, Boundary Oak Distillery was a great, memorable stop on my birthday trip to Kentucky.
