Having grown up in Sacramento, I have seen downtown Sacramento and especially K Street go through…read moreits ups and down throughout the years. There was a time long ago when K Street was bustling with "Life". People shopping, eating out at restaurants, going to movie theaters and even cruising down K Street on cruise night. My fondest memories of K Street was walking by the" Fox Theater" and smelling the freshly made Carmel popcorn. Sooo good ! Both sides of the entrance of the theater were glass enclosures where you can see employees making delicious red/caramel candied apples, cotton candy, and red rope licorice. I also remember seeing spot lights light up the night skies during special movies screenings ! Saturday mornings were very special here at the "FOX Theater". Who needed money ! We were able to watch a movie and cartoons with just 5 Pepsi bottle caps. Luckily for me we lived right around the corner from a small Mexican grocery store. The owners were kind enough to let me rummage through their bottle caps. What wonderful memories ! During Kevin Johnson mayor tenure here in Sacramento, revitalization of the downtown area was a priority! With the Golden One Center & Downtown Commons being built , new business are finally coming back to downtown and especially K Street. Just think a few years ago people couldn't move away fast enough from downtown. Now It's "Cool"too live here. How "ironic"! Great things are coming ! Thanks for reading !

Once you live in a city long enough, you start developing a deeper appreciation for those places…read moreyou may take for granted but are so essential to the city's personality. One of those places is K Street, which thanks to its location in the very heart of downtown, has been the victim of constant change, for better or worse. It used to be a place lined with cars and teeming with families and restaurants and the famous "Fox Theater." Then it met a decline and attracted a lot of crime with a lot of shuttered businesses and became the blight of the city. Gradually, beginning in the mid '00's, it had a return to form, with more businesses opening and a wonderful revitalization. That took a hit with the great recession but it came back again in a big way when Golden 1 arena was built. Even though we are in the time of COVID, I'm confident that K will continue to grow and thrive in the decade ahead. Some of the most notable spots are the historic church, some of the older buildings and some of the modern businesses, like the Empress, Pizza Rock and the new popular Nash & Proper. The visual landmark we all enjoy is actually the Crest Theater, which I pray will survive these tough times. Whatever the case, it's a great place to stroll. While flawed, it's still one of the most interesting streets in our city!

I mainly used the fitness room which has weights, exercise bikes, and treadmills. The fitness room is always organized and clean. There are plenty of treadmills but sometimes there's a wait for the bikes because there are only two. However, that doesn't happen very often. It's a great place to go if you don't want to spend a fortune on a gym membership. The center also offers things like yoga, martial arts, dance, senior, and after school programs. There's great little cafe and an epic play area for kids called Fort Natomas.

McKinley Village was a controversial building project, built on a floodplain. However, it has…read moreturned into a great new community between the railroad tracks and Business 80 freeway. Yes, it is unfortunate that there's no freeway entrance or exit to this community and it will increase traffic on a normally sleepy side of East Sac, but I'm going to review the property itself since I have friends moving here. McKinley Village has a clubhouse that includes a small gym, swimming pool, spa, lounge, and kitchen area that residents can rent out for parties. Outside the closed clubhouse area is a neat children's playground and pickleball courts. The streets are lined with historic-looking street lights that match the ones in East Sac. The property is well-maintained (thanks to HOA fees) and the construction itself is well done compared to other new housing developments I've seen in Sacramento. Once everything is built, a new bridge is completed from McKinley Village to Midtown, and everyone moves in, I think it will be a nice, comfortable community to ride your bike through or take a stroll. There are cool pieces of art here too, which give it an extra touch of class. So, no matter how controversial it has been, McKinley Village is here to stay and they've done a great job.

Parking is just street parking so not abundant but sufficient.

The last incident was a leaky sprinkler head that was spilling water all over the sidewalk. This had been going on for over a month so I decided to write it up on their app. So after I wrote it up I walked later that week and they already started the repair on the broken sprinkler head. It's so amazing that they're so responsive to this app and always work on items that are broken right away. Plus it's so nice to not have to wait when you call on the automated answering system that put you through all these props this is way easier. You just take some pictures of the problem and then write it up and show the location and they routed to where it's supposed to go and fix it amazing

The building was referred to " One of those 1853 buildings " constructed immediately after the fire of 1852. Mr. Hastings rented the lower retail space to the Wormser Brothers. They were clothing merchants from Germany. The Wormser Brothers remained here at 128 J Street until 1853, when they moved to the Haywood Building across the street. The second floor was used as living quarters at that time. In 1870 the produce business next door owned and operated by Julius Gregory expanded their business into the I. & S. Wormser Building. The building itself is 2 stories made of brick masonry with architectural elements reflected of the time period. Today the building lower level of the I. & S. Wormser Building is the expansion of the popular gift shop next door ( Vision Of Eden ). On the upper floor (Tango By The River dancing studio offers Argentine Tango classes & Milongas. The railyards is such a hive of activity lately that teens walking home at night should think twice before taking a shortcut through the construction sites. That's how animorphs happen. So if you're trying to find a place to park here and it's after 8 am, peace be with you. Try the parking garage (lot 10) and keep going up to floor 5-7. There will likely be a spot for you. Anyone can use the garage but a lot of folks have permits. They don't want me to tell you this but I am anyway. The buildings are new and do have a lot of nice amenities. The auditorium is pretty cool. All the workstations have sit/stand desks, and there are still extra for hoteling. For now. Kitchenettes on each floor are big. Lots of seating inside and outside in the courtyard as well. The bathrooms are way too close together and you're in someone's way getting a water refill in the middle. They also managed to construct sinks that are inconvenient for both wheelchair users and everyone else, wow what a feat. Cafeteria is just okay. They make a good panini. Soda machine is watery but they sell sodas and there are vending machines with more around the corner. They're doing their best now that Gav has demanded everyone (mostly, there are some exceptions wink nudge cough) come 4 days a week. Best to bring your food with you as there's nothing else around unless you have time for a long walk. The cafe never lasts long when it does get a vendor. It is a nice office space when it comes down to it. I'm optimistic. Keep in mind the township 9 lightrail (green line) across the street is still undergoing maintenance but there are bus connections to and from downtown blue and yellow lines.

I must say there's events like fires and weather plus environmental related scary issues that deterred me from moving back. Although I have a lot of close family living in California most of my family is on the East Coast not far from my Manhattan home. I'm highly recommending if you want to move to the West Coast!
