Frank Loughlin - State Farm Insurance Agent - State Farm Agent

Frank Loughlin - State Farm Insurance Agent

They care. When you care you deliver and they surely do…read more This team has actively delivered amazing service to our family for over 20 years. Always happy to help; I have never felt like a bother. Their response time is superb and I trust their word. They haven't let us down yet. In a world of being a 'customer' I like the old school vibe of being important. Bravo and thank you!

I had existing insurance but needed to lower my rates. At the time I had a clean class A license,…read moreno accidents or tickets, but had a tax suspension within a three-year period. State Farm requires a perfect license for three years so the tax suspension would have disqualified me from State Farm preferred. A State Farm Agent is aware of these stipulations. I contacted Frank Loughlin's State Farm Agency in Catskill, New York in the middle of October and on the 20th of October purchased both auto and home insurance. I received a receipt the same day and a temporary insurance card. Once the insurance was issued, I contacted my old company and cancelled the existing insurance. On October 23rd I contacted the agent about an additional auto policy issue. The agent said they had spoken to the underwriters about another matter on the auto policy and no one seemed to mention that they were going to cancel the policy On October 27th I registered for State Farm's online service. At that time the auto policy was in force and no indication there were any issues. On November 4th I contacted the agency by email again because I had not received the home policy. They informed me there was no problem, and did not mention the auto cancellation. According to the auto underwriter(State Farm supplies you with their number when they send the cancellation notice) the agency had received notice of my auto policy cancellation, over a week prior but I had not received any notification from either the agency or State Farm. According to the underwriter it is customary for the agent to call when there is a problem. When I later spoke to the agent, they said they did not call because they were sick. Unfortunately. the excuse does not bear up under scrutiny since the owner, Mr. Loughlin, was also informed of the cancellation and took no action. On November 5th I received a letter from State Farm saying they were cancelling the insurance the following month. I sent an email to Mr Loughlin who said he would look into it the following morning, but he never responded after that. On November 30th I spoke to an underwriter. The underwriter explained that the license had to be totally clean for three years, and since the license would be clean at the date of cancellation, he would call the Loughlin agency and advise them they would approve my auto insurance if it was rewritten on the 4th of December. They also assured me the agent would call that day or at the latest the following day. We decided based on past experience I would wait until they called just to see if their customer service improved. They never called. Here are the reasons for my rating 1. The agency ran my license after I purchased the policy and was aware that there was a tax suspension, but never informed me of a possible issue. They tried to blame it on the software, but several weeks later I went to their office after going to the DMV to get an abstract,(at their suggestion). Both the abstract and their computer showed the tax suspension. Therefore, they knew the day after the policy was issued there was a potential problem, but failed to notify me. Had they done this I would not have cancelled my existing auto insurance. 2. According to State Farm both Mr Loughlin and the agent knew the policy was going to be cancelled, a week after it was issued but never had the courtesy of contacting me. They waited one month to inform me of the issue and then offered to place me in a higher priced company which I believe is a subsidiary of State Farm. Had they done their due diligence initially I could have gone with another company. Even if the agent was sick for a week the owner of the agency was informed. If he knew and also knew the agent was sick why did he not call? Assume this would have been a car accident or a home fire could I or anyone rely on this agency. 3. Even after State Farm underwriting called the agency with a resolution to the problem and assured me, they would have the agency call neither Mr. Loughlin or the agent had the courtesy of calling Things I learned 1. Make certain the agency is looking at your DMV abstract before you purchase the insurance. 2. Ask the insurance agent what would cause the policy not to be issued. Make certain you ask about both driving and non-driving actions that would affect the decision Conclusion: An insurance agent's purpose is not just to sell you insurance, but to look out after your interests. This agency did not do their due diligence nor did they follow up, Imagine how they would have handled something more serious. I found comparable insurance (coverage and price) from the Grapeville Agency in Catskill. They return phone calls promptly and were willing to come out the same day (it was pouring rain) to do the external inspection on my home, and made certain my auto insurance would not be cancelled.
