We had the BEST experience working with Brent Rolland from Fig Media for our wedding at the MCA Chicago in July 2021! We initially read his DJ profile on the Fig site and knew he'd be a great fit for our music taste, but we were incredibly blown away when we finally met him and discussed our vision for the wedding. Essentially, Brent understood the assignment. :) Brent's so professional, thoughtful, and takes great care of his clients. He took time to learn about us as people and our music preferences. Brent was responsive and professional throughout the first stages of booking a contract. He is so personable and funny, and connected with not only us over zoom, but also our dog Coconut. After being at a few weddings last year with standard grade party music from other companies, we knew how particular we were going to be with our wedding Deejay choice. Brent matched us with the Deejay he thought would the best fit for our crazy playlist. Deejay CJ Buckets killed it all night long, and the dance floor was packed until midnight- just how we had envisioned. We had multiple calls with CJ with our planner attached to go over the schedule a few times to hit every detail. The music was one of the most important aspects of our wedding, as that really decides what kind of party it's going to be. We had a pretty particular schedule made by our planner, that included exact moments of certain songs being played, or announcements, and NOTHING was missed. CJ even was easy going with our wish of moving the location of his DJ booth off to the side during the ceremony, so that the backdrop of our wedding was seamless with nothing showing. Everyone at Fig says they have a love-hate relationship with Yelp and now, rereading these reviews I can see why. And, having experienced them, I really understand why! We scheduled a meeting with James to talk about photography. I spent quite a while on the phone with him before this discussing the plans for our wedding, and he called me quite a lot to get more details, to try and discuss other packages besides photography, to set in stone the details for our meeting. The amount of attention was a bit much, but it was great to feel like he was so invested in us before even meeting us! He even called to confirm the day-of! That SAME day, we walk in to our scheduled meeting, and James comes out of another meeting very briefly with another guy, Andrew, and says, "Sorry, I double-booked by accident. You'll be talking with Andrew today. It'll be good, a total blank slate." Why would I want a blank slate after telling you so much about us and our wedding? What was the point of all that time on the phone? Andrew was great at answering all of our questions, but there were some answers I feel like anyone planning their wedding should be aware of BEFORE scheduling a possible meeting with Fig... You pay a whole lot extra to get a DVD/USB of all your photos (something no other photographer we've talked to does). You also pay extra for the privilege of picking which photographer you want at your wedding. Andrew rationalized this by telling us their styles were very similar... But I could see differences just from the work posted on their website. Also, to me this totally belies the artsy vibe they try to send out. I'm glad we stayed to find out all this information, but honestly, when we walked in and were pawned off on someone who didn't even know our wedding date or venue, I was almost ready to walk back out! read more

My husband and I were married a couple of weeks ago and we worked with Brent from Fig and all we can say was WOW! First, from our initial call, Brent understood we wanted to do something a little different musically. We decided we were going to have elements of live music throughout the night but wanted poppies in music for the most part. Our ceremony was onsite and we wanted to have our prelude music be more upbeat, French lounge vibe. Brent totally got that and he nailed it. Then, for the ceremony, we had two songs, one for the processionals and one for the recessional, but needed both songs cut specifically to make work for what they were used for, and he made it work! Cocktail hour was great. The music was just what we wanted. Think Hotel Costes inspired. Again, he nailed it! The for dinner we had an electric violinist play during dinner and he worked with her to make it happen. Again, it was perfect. Then, the dance floor was PACKED the entire night. He literally kept people on the dance floor and I'm convinced, people stayed all the way to the end of the wedding because the music was so good. He read the crowd perfectly. My husband and I hired Fig Media for their Photo and DJ services for our wedding back in May (2017). Brian Carey took care of our photos and Brent Rolland was our DJ/Host for the evening. We just really can't say enough great things about these guys! Brian was such a caring professional through out the entire process. We knew Brian already as he shot photos for my brother-in-law's wedding and my sister's wedding. None the less he took the time to meet with us, hear our story as a couple and ask us all the right questions about what our particular vision was for our wedding day. I have to give Brian all the credit in the world. We are not a photogenic couple. We get super nervous and uncomfortable in front of a camera. We warned him about this upon our initial meeting and he assured us that everything would be alright. Brian was patient and kind and having him document our day was very natural and stress free. On the day of our wedding Brian worked insanely hard. From the moment he showed up in the morning til the end of the evening, Brian worked non-stop. We had a difficult timeline of events as we weren't doing a first look, and our ceremony and reception were in separate locations. To make matters worse the weather didn't cooperate and even though it was the end of May it ended up being very cold and windy which made taking pictures in the park we were married in difficult. He didn't seemed phased at all by our difficult timeline or the weather. If he was stressed at all, we never knew it. His energy and enthusiasm was astounding. The amount of pictures he delivered in the end was amazing. We had so many pictures to chose from, that even months later I'm still having a hard time deciding which ones to print and give to family. All our family and friends were so thrilled with the photos and we get nothing but compliments on how beautiful they turned out. Brian is truly an artist. I can't even begin to say how grateful we are that we have these beautiful photos as our keepsakes from our wedding day. Then there's Brent. Brent becomes your best friend from the moment you meet him. Brent was also the DJ for my sister's wedding and he was genuinely excited to be able to work with our family again. We met with Brent to discuss the unusual request we had for our wedding reception. Our reception was very non-traditional and we had no dancing. It took place at Beercade, so our entertainment for the evening was video games. More so than a DJ, we really needed a host for the evening. I would love to give Fig a better review but it was really just ok and not really up to what I felt $1,800 should feel like for a DJ. I was so excited about getting a "really good DJ" for our wedding but I think I could have just gone with an every day company and it would have turned out the same. Our DJ, Brent, was very nice. He was very easy to work with. When we met with him, he offered helpful suggestions but was not pushy. We couldn't come up with a parent dance so he suggested the old standard What a Wonderful World, which we actually hadn't thought of. We ended up changing it, but that's beside the point. When we spoke about the songs we wanted for different parts of our ceremony and reception, we expressed some concern about whether our songs were long enough or too long. Now maybe I misunderstood, but Brent said he could loop songs so that they made the length if we needed it. So first, we ended up walking just a touch longer than planned for the processional (it's hard to walk on grass in heels!) but our song (June Hymn by the Decemberists) ended when I was halfway up the aisle and it was just restarted. Lame. Really? Yes, lame. The 30 seconds of silence would have been better than starting it all over again. Our processional song was I Got You by Wilco. We gave Brent the cue as to when the song should start a few days before the ceremony. It was not started at the right time and it was way too loud and drowned out the officiant. So we were was kind of, okay, not a huge deal. I mean, we were so happy it wasn't really that big of a deal. Then -- we were introduced at the reception with the wrong name. Seriously. After waiting three years to hear us introduced as Mr & Mrs so and so, he introduced us with my last name. I was so disappointed. We also gave Brent a handful of playlists as a guide for cocktail hour. All he played was our playlists exactly. It was just a guide. My husband at one point actually had to tell him to skip a song because it was full of cursing. We were told that he would use our tastes to pick music for cocktails and dinner but he just used our mixes. There was a lot of dancing and people had a great time but I thought there were too many old songs played and not enough new stuff. I'm not an unhappy bride I just think we should have gotten more for what we paid for. At least what we were told we were paying for.
