Never had such an embarrassing experience at a bank before. The only reason why I even gave it two stars is because they have a staff member (short dark hair) who is absolutely lovely and incredibly professional. They had a $250 bonus for new customers so I decided to give it a try because I was looking for a new bank. Unfortunately, they never had a banker whenever I would come in so I would always have to leave and come back or go to a different branch. After trying out the bank for a few months, I decided that this wasn't the best bank option for me and decided to close my account. There was a blonde older lady here who looked unapproachable from the start, and she immediately questioned me on why I was closing my account. I wanted to be polite and stated that I didn't end up using this account as much as I thought I would've. She looks at my account and says "Oh, you only made it for the $250 that's why." Absolutely unprofessional and embarrassing. I didn't even bother explaining my issues with the bank, because I wanted to leave as soon as possible after that. She follows up that comment with "You know you have to pay taxes right?" If you are going to offer a $250 bonus for people to try out your bank, there is no reason why you should be shaming and embarrassing people for canceling even if they just wanted to get the $250 out of it. Absolutely unprofessional and only made me realize that I made a good decision by cancelling. read more

The customer service at the Wixom, Michigan branch is the worst. They have a horrible customer service liaison. She is lazy and not helpful. I had an issue with a mortgage from another branch, and she told me to contact that branch! The unfortunate thing for Fifth Third employees is that when they are not helpful, they do not know who their employee is and how they "bad behavior" can impact the bank. For example, yearly I teach a group of at least 100 students in a college personal finance class. If I tell those 100 students never to bank at Fifth Third, and they pass it on to their friends and relatives, who pass it on to their friends and relatives, it just creates bad blood for the bank. I would like to think management would pay attention to the lack of customer service, but only for the good service at the Milford Branch with Kathy and Colene will I stay. Wixom should simply close their doors. read more
