I haven't attended this event in about a decade, so I decided to check it out again this year. The festival was over the course of 3 days during Cinco de Mayo weekend in the streets of Old Town. I went on both Friday (with friends) and Saturday (with hubby).
On Friday, there was room to roam around and enjoy the live music, car show, lucha libre matches, and vendor booths! There were a lot of familiar ones I've seen at other festivals handing out prizes, or offering food for sale. I tried some fresh handmade tortillas from Old Town Mexican Cafe and a skewer from a booth vendor.
I liked that there were other options other than Mexican food as well. There was also a beer garden, so you'll need to be of age if you want to hang out in this area. This was the perfect spot to watch the wrestling matches! There were even some Mexican folk dancing in the streets that I was able to watch.
On Saturday, it was actually Cinco de Mayo, so parking was worse. There was hardly any room to walk around. All the lines for food was very long and there were lines to pick up the food too. We ordered some tacos and a quesadilla, which were expensive and took a long time to make. However, the food was great. Before we left, I danced a bit of salsa and bachata near the stage. It was nice to see my friend perform a routine as well. I suggest not going on the actual day if you want to avoid the crowds and still experience the fiesta! read more
