Bill and his team are phenomenal! I recently had a 70 foot tree that had a 5 foot diameter trunk…read morecut down in front of my house. Around the trunk of the tree was a large area of mulch which made the entire area around 12 feet in circumference. My wife and I had the tree cut down because we plan on a remodel in the near future. Once the tree was gone we realized the front yard looked barren and we needed something in its place. We called bill for an estimate he was timely and very honest (one of the things I really liked about him). Bill mapped out a plan and though the jobs was simple he gave it a ton of attention and made sure we were happy. Bill even contacted us after to see how the tree and grass were progressing. Bill suggested a Japanese Maple tree (slow grower and not huge) and some catmint sitting on an edged small island and he dropped new top soil and grass seed to fill in the larger area. It looks awesome and the Japanese Maple tree alone was beautiful! It is approximately 8 feet tall, thick and lush. The tree looks extremely healthy. These trees are expensive and I'll tell you I went to many nurseries to price these trees and they were all straggly and did not support lush growth. Point being Bill orders quality products and it shows. My grass is growing in and my tree looks awesome, I get compliments all the time. Another thing I liked was Bill's staff courteous and neat and Bill oversees all the projects and returns to the project location for appropriate oversight of his staff. He is extremely accessible to the customer. We plan on doing this renovation and I feel I have to look no further for exterior landscaping design and even for a new outdoor patio (they do that too!) We would definitely recommend Pennella's Landscape Designs, they did a great job! Mike D Lincoln Park, NJ (not sure why it says SC)

After buying our new home, we realized our entire yard - both front and back - was 100% weeds, we…read morehad no grass at all! We met with several landscapers to solicit proposals for turning our weeded yard into a thick lawn, and most proposals were nothing more than assurances that they could take care of it, with few details on how. Then there was Spencer - who probably spent an hour at our house going over his proposal and explaining why he was recommending certain actions. It was easy to tell that he took an enormous amount of pride in his work and that he would treat our lawn like his own, and that's exactly what he did. Spencer's customer service truly cannot be matched. When we had follow-up questions on the proposal, rather than send a quick email or phone call, he came back to our house (TWICE) to go over the proposal again to ensure we understood everything. When the projected timing for our irrigation permit was longer than we anticipated, he personally went to the building department to check on its status and try and push it along (which he did successfully), even though we weren't even engaging him for the irrigation. When we had questions throughout the project, he would literally email us back with a response within minutes, if not seconds (no exaggeration). But beyond the proposal and beyond the customer service - most importantly, the end-product was even better than we could have imagined. The project involved killing all weeds (and the few blades of grass we had) in our entire yard, adding an inch of soil throughout, adding new beds of mulch, "cleaning up" any debris (sticks, rocks, etc.) left by the builder, and seeding the entire yard. It was a large project but Spencer made the whole process incredibly easy for us and delivered above and beyond what we expected. We now have a beautiful lawn and look forward to using Spencer for all our lawn and landscaping needs, and would recommend him without hesitation.

Writing this review on behalf of my mom and her barber shop in Peapack, NJ:…read more Connie: "Hired Mike and team in late September 2020 for some TLC landscaping for my business (Barber Shop). I had been hounding my landlord for years to clean up the property, thinking it was affecting mine and my neighbors business. I took a look at my lease, and found out that all landscaping is MY RESPONSIBILITY!!! At first I was upset this would cost me money, but realized this was a blessing in disguise as I now had full control over the most important marketing for a barbershop, a beautiful and welcoming entrance for old and new customers. I'm not a landscaping expert, so I was both picky and vague (I'm such a great client ;-), but Mike fully understood and delivered on what I wanted: 1. Save all the trees that weren't dying. 2. Trim down any tree limbs/shrubbery blocking the historic building and signage for mine and my neighbors shops. 3. Make it pretty/clean (they power washed the building and sidewalks too!). I was so excited with the results and I've put the before and after photos here so you can all see too! Not only did I notice new customers coming in, but I got a ton of wonderful comments from my regulars who were so used to my overgrown and dingy looking shop. I'm so happy with Plant Solutions' work, and so happy that he was able to save all the trees including the Cherry tree planted by the previous business owner's mother at least 60 years ago. He was also very professional and had my back when explaining all of the work he was doing to the landlord (who was suddenly VERY CONCERNED about the landscaping LOL). I know how much a makeover can benefit your psychological well being as a professional hair stylist, but man did this landscaping makeover feel great! Thank you so much Mike and team!"

Joe promised, and Joe delivered…read more When my wife and I moved out of Brooklyn and bought our home in East Brunswick, we fell in love with all the landscaping the previous owners meticulously put in. Our property felt like a botanical garden, far exceeding the standard run-of-the-mill landscaping jobs you see in most neighborhoods. What I didn't realize at the time was how completely unprepared I was to maintain this level of landscaping. Even after renewing the previous owners' contract with Broehl's (the local gold standard for lawn care and maintenance) there was still too much to do. Unfortunately, I have a black thumb for this kind of thing, and there's only so many checks I can afford to write to try and keep things looking good. So for the past few years my wife and I have actually invested money in scaling *back* some of the landscaping; essentially ripping out and replacing some of the more complicated beds that have steadily been beat on over the last few brutal winters and didn't look good any more. When we met with Joe, we were clear that we wanted nice-looking beds, but nothing that would be over-the-top difficult to care for and maintain. And we wanted clear sight lines down our front yard so we could see our kids playing in the street. The overall amount of work we need to do to get our property where we really want it is pretty staggering, so Joe discussed a phased plan that would allow us to get started without breaking the bank. Long story short, he and his crew ripped out the mess of bushes and plants and undergrowth that marked the front and center portion of our lawn. He designed a simple, but elegant bed that he said would look great but wouldn't be impossible to maintain. He took photos of our property in advance, and then simulated his recommended design over the photos via computer, allowing us to "see" what it would look like before we'd have to commit. As you can see from the photos, Joe and his crew did a great job. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the work. We get a ton of compliments on the before and after. (Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of the before, but trust me -- this was a huge leap forward.) Truth be told, you're really at a disadvantage if you cannot do at least some of your own landscaping. Professional landscaping is expensive -- plain and simple. And frankly, I hate paying for it. But as I said in my previous review, Joe is a no-nonsense, honest businessman. If, as the saying goes, a man is only as good as his word, Joe is a good man. He and his crew are completely professional and do great work at a very competitive price. Just look at the photos and see the work for yourself. And feel free to message me if you have any questions or want to learn more.
