Yet another win in the neighborhood.
My area, in between Lacroze and, say, Virrey Arredondo and Moldes and Cabildo can be pretty sparse in the way of cafes/restos. With the opening of Ficatola we definitely have a solid player that fills this hole, made obvious by the number of neighbors that flock to this place. In a relative desert it's just about one of the only things we have around!
Think neighborhood resto with semi-modern cafe fare that range from sandwiches to mains. Head here for a coffee, lunch, merienda, dinner and you'll be pretty satisfied. The only thing: beware of annoyingly slow service...until they hire another waiter.
The menu has a slight italian twist, made most obvious by the addition of foccacia to the (delish) bread basket. I haven't been to anything but lunch, but I have to say the baked goods surprise. What's even more attractive is the little attached bakery where you can buy the foccacia, along with other breads, some stuffed with sundried tomatoes and olives, some covered in cinnamon and sugar.
After a recent trip dictated exclusively by my sweet too I returned home with both a medialuna and a cinnamon twist (the guy at the counter was nice enough to gift me the cinnamon one so I could try it!). Both were delicious, doughy and massive -- appropriate for the 9 peso price tag.
Take a pit stop and try out Ficatola. It's got it goin' on. read more
