The Festival der Nationen (Festival of the Nations) is one of my favorite Fests in Vienna. Why? Because it has the best and most varied food offerings of any of Vienna's festivals. Food from small countries all around the world are served here with many a smile. Such diverse countries that are not ordinarily represented well on the Viennese culinary scene turn up at this appetizing smorgasbord. You will have Armenian food next to Cambodian treats next to Macedonian snacks next to native Bolivian preparations. And if that is not enough you move on to Benin eats or Paraguayan BBQ or specialties from Kurdistan. Yes all these foods and more are here and priced fairly.
And of course I shouldn't forget the music and dance cultural performances taking the stage throughout the day. The Heeresgeschichtliches Museum (Military History)where all this takes place is gratis on this Sunday as well. A truly unique highlight of this festival is seeing all the outdoor cannon in front of the museum (once used in war) now being used for either tables for eating or climbing apparatus for the kids! Indeed the festival of the Nations is something to look forward to each year in Vienna! read more
