I'm not about to tell you that Retour Steak serves up the best beef dishes in the world because in my opinion, they don't. One would have travel to Japan for the best steak (Sorry Nebraska). But I will tell you this, FOR THE PRICE nothing comes close to this place. We made it a point to check this place out and after a previous attempt the night before decided to come by earlier. We arrived around 5:45 and already the dining room was crazy busy. The hostess did however find one available table, but that they would need the table later for an 8:00 reservation. If you're taking notes. Make a reservation! Since we had well over two hours, we knew we could take our time and have a cocktail to start. Handwritten on the special drinks for the evening "sidecar". Hello?! Music to my ears. My friend and I each ordered up a sidecar and a charcuterie platter to start. The sidecars were perfect, and even though I usually have mine made with whisky I went with the flow and let them make mine with cognac. It was delicious. The charcuterie was a small serving but perfect to share. Each of the meats were amazing. I wish I knew what the darker meat was, because that one was truly out of this world kick ass delicious. Steak time! And there are plenty of choices. But really this would be a no brainer as I am a fan of this little thing called the French fry. And the ribeye comes with those crispy potato things. Ribeye "medium rare" please. I'll get right to the point. The steak was cooked to perfection. It came topped with a little rosemary and roasted garlic. The garlic was the winner and enhanced the steak even more. I even saved a few to eat along with my fries. By the way, these fries were about as good as I have had in a long ASS time. Almost as good as I had in Belgium (which by the way is the Hall of Fame of fries). I did save room for dessert and again, this was an easy choice. The profiteroles were shouting out my name. Again, they scored a perfect 10. We each had a glass of dessert wine, a moscato and a tawny port which both were amazing. I can't stress how much I loved this place. And again, the fact that this place is reasonably priced makes it that much better. It's not cheap mind you, but for a steakhouse it's about as inexpensive you will find. The service was impeccable and constantly had servers checking in on us. They were also very helpful when it came to our wine selections. Just FYI, if you are standing on Østergade street and can't find the place, it's actually located on Ny Østergade 21 which is a side street off the main street (running perpendicular).

We started with an Eriksberg and the salad bar. Salad is included with the entree. A good variety of items from greens to cheese (Feta, Mozzarella), seasoned mushrooms, corn & peppers. A great way to start the meal. The garlic bread was excellent! For main, I ordered the No Bone T-Bone. A Filet/Tenderloin and Sirloin cut grilled separately. I asked for medium rare. The Tenderloin was amazing! On the other hand, the Sirloin was ok & came out closer to medium. Would order just the Tenderloin in the future. The Carnivore Classic (Burger) was also ordered and it was very good. The fries come with the entrees and we ordered the potatisgratang as an extra and the creamy potatoes were very good and definitely worth the 20 KR. Also got the Pepper (good) & Bearnaise (better) side sauces. They also have chicken and Salmon entrees but the feeling is that it is all about the steaks here. I had the recommended classic, plankstek. The seasoning wasn't anything special, but the chefs do know how to cook their meat. I had medium well, and it was cooked perfectly. Usually I run the risk of it being too dry, but Mando's got the perfect touch! Service: 5/5. I came by on a Wednesday around 4pm, and the place was already quite busy, so I can't imagine what it's like during rush hour. Since it was an off-hour, I was promptly seated wherever I wanted. The blonde waitress was sweet and even bent down to speak to me at eye-level to ensure friendly comfort. Price: 4/5. Coming from CPH, I expected crazy prices at a steakhouse, but for 130g of the plankstek--that also comes with a mixed salad, fries, and 1 onion ring--it only cost about $25 USD. I half expected to order another side in case I wasn't full, but no worries there.

For apps, we got the lobster ravioli and burrata&tomatoes. Lobster ravioli's sauce was light and flavorful. Comes with 3 raviolis. The burrata was creamy with fresh grape colorful tomatoes and balsamic. We got the wagyu and sharing size of the strip with a side of the Béarnaise sauce. Wagyu alone of course was sooo tender and juicy as people describe it. The strip we used the sauce and the butternut squash strip they provide and it was superb. Lastly, we ordered the mashed potatoes in wagyu fat. Very fatty and creamy as expected. Had to order a second it was so good Service was great. Our waiter was very kind and quick.

A genuinely disturbing dining experience…read more The main course completely ruined our evening. We ordered three beef tenderloins, and both my daughter and I had to spit out the first bite. The meat had an overpoweringly foul smell and taste. This was not the flavour of dry-aged beef--it tasted spoiled. When I explained this to the manager, he initially appeared sceptical. I asked him to smell the steaks himself. His attitude changed immediately, and he admitted that something was wrong with them and apologised. I have never experienced anything like this in a restaurant, particularly one presenting itself as reputable. Being served meat that smells and tastes spoiled is not simply a disappointing meal--it raises a serious concern about food handling and quality control. The rest of the food did nothing to improve the experience. The fries were cold and soggy, the side dishes we tried were bland, and the service was inattentive, although the servers themselves were polite. What makes the situation even worse is that we were still required to pay for part of the meal after being served food that was clearly unacceptable. To KOD: please do not respond with a generic message saying you are sorry or that you will "do better." I have already sent a private email, and the matter can be addressed properly there. This was, without exaggeration, the worst dining experience I have ever had. Based on our experience, I strongly recommend eating elsewhere.
