What a gem! Just a few dozen yards off the square, this is a small mom and pop place that is homey,…read morefriendly and delicious - in fact the best meal we've had so far after several days in Germany. Not fancy, but homemade to order. Unrushed, as the young woman cooks your order on demand while her husband manages front of house. The homemade wines (mostly Rieslings and Pinots) were delicious. They offered a special menu for asparagus season - imagine thick white asparagus maybe 9" long, tender and sweet. Accompanied by a tender and perfectly seasoned schnitzel with potatoes and a salad. Also tried an appetizer (enough for a meal on its own) of a cheese marinated in an onion sauce covered with chopped onions on slices of fresh dark bread - surprisingly tasty, though they were surprised and seemed a little worried that a foreigner would order it lol. We were the only non-Germans there, among 4 largish tables that are expected to be shared. Dinner for 2, including 3 glasses of wine, was only €45. Cash only - they have no internet connectivity (no cell signal, let alone wi-fi, which was a good opportunity to disconnect and let time slow down), but there's an ATM nearby.

The riesling this young couple makes is fantastic, and the warmth and intimacy of their restaurant…read morefelt like authentic Rudesheim hospitality. We were happy to have stumbled upon the kind proprietor when visiting this scenic town or we may not have found this hidden gem.

Very popular appearing restaurant with large shaded outdoor patio area. We sat indoors because…read morethere was no more seating for our group of 7. I thought the service was friendly but they were a bit understaffed this particular day and things moved on the slower side. Pork knuckle plate Massive presentation of meat - you'd best be hungry here. Nice helping of sauerkraut- the sourness of which offsets the savory meat. Although I thought the pork was mostly dry. The skin is also surprisingly chewy/sticky/gooey rather than crisp or brittle. Finally, the scoops of "potato mash" is weird - it has a gelatinous quality that isn't normal for American palates. Schnitzel - which is sort of like the German version of tonkatsu, breaded pork filet. Recommend getting the mushroom sauce to help with the dryness. Served with a nice mixed salad. Kaffee Rüdesheim - when in Rome... this is a coffee with apple brandy and nice flaming presentation that everyone should see. Pretty cool. That's all...

We were seated right away but found out before ordering they only accept cash for payment. While we had cash my brother in law and his wife did not have enough to pay for dinner since they spent what they had on souvenirs earlier. So we left and went to a restaurant right down the street, which was delicious by the way! Most people while traveling don't carry a lot of cash on them for safety reasons so we found it hard to believe they would not accept a card. Oh well!

We only have time for two soups and they're delicious. The little ally reportedly is packed with people during the high season. Today it's relaxed and we enjoyed walking there.

If you are in the popular Drosselgasse street In Rüdesheim,…read moreyou can find a little less noise over at Lindwirt but this whole section of town is made for tourists so be sure to set your expectations accordingly. Affogato - espresso with ice cream. Really hit the spot. Especially if you're dealing with jet lag at night. Venison Sausage - definitely gamey and crumbly texture. It's dry, which makes it a nice complement to the dark brown gravy (there needs to be more). Comes with a gigantic mound of yellow mashed potatoes and steamed carrots and broccoli. Maultaschen (ravioli/dumpling) of venison. These dumplings are halved and yet are still extra large in size. Meat is, once again, gamey and salty and filling. Comes with a sizeable salad and sage butter. Glass noodle with grilled tofu. This is a spicy-ish asian dish out of left field. It's got the spices, sesame oil and white pepper to garner your attention. Interesting item but I suppose there is an asian tourist contingent to cater towards. Also, Riesling makes a nice pairing! Prompt service, staff speaks somewhat limited English and the ambience is upbeat, and moderately noisy. But as I mentioned, this is the heart of the town of Rüdesheim and so it's hard to fault the mojo here. That's all
