I started seeing Dr. Marquard because I found him on the Ehlers-Danlos foundation website. I've…read morebeen seeing the office for about seven months now, and I am extremely pleased with the care that I've received from all of the providers. Because I am a frequent user of the practice's patient portal, I do not mind the $50 administrative fee because I feel it is necessary to balance out the extra work that they have because of the patient portal. For patients with EDS, this office is a godsend as so few doctors acknowledge the disorder, more or much less treat the disorder. I appreciate the added bonus of having in-house counseling and the in-house lab. Every time I go in, I am greeted warmly and well taken care by the administrative staff and medical professionals.

In my opinion, based on my experiences described below, Thunderbird Family Medicine and their…read moreassociated practitioners are UNETHICAL and MONEY GRABBERS. They will hold your refills and lab orders "hostage" to make you come into the clinic so they can charge you another co-pay and bill your insurance for another office visit. Background. I went to the same doctor for almost 20 years. Unfortunately, he had a stroke and could no longer practice medicine. We had a great relationship. Every year, I would faithfully pick up my lab orders, get my labs drawn, then schedule my yearly appointment to discuss the results and make any necessary changes. If something unusual came up mid-year, I would make an appointment to see him. If I needed a specialist, he would recommend a good one. Perhaps I was spoiled with this kind of patient-doctor relationship. When searching for a new primary care doctor, I asked my friends who lived nearby for a referral. Dr. Scott Marquard with Thunderbird Family Medicine received a lukewarm recommendation and had decent reviews, so I decided to give him a try. It turned out to be a BIG mistake.  Red Flag #1. The clinic charges a yearly fee just for the privilege of going to them.  Red Flag #2. On my initial appointment with Dr. Marquard, I brought in my 20 year history printed out for him along with recent lab work. My vitals were taken by the technician and I waited for the doctor. He came in, shook my hand, then we had a ~15 minute discussion, then he shook my hand and left. No look at the eyes, ears, throat. No listen to the lungs or heart. No nerve reflex test. No palpations. Nothing. Only conversation in which we discussed my current prescriptions and an upcoming international trip, among other things. I was told to call in for future prescriptions refills. Red Flag #3. When I called to get my prescriptions renewed, I was told by the front desk that I needed to make an appointment. This was contrary to what we had discussed on my first visit. When I asked the front desk to ask the doctor about it, she confirmed that I needed an appointment. My resolution was to call 98 point 6 (my telephone insurance service) and pay $5 to get my prescriptions renewed (they asked to see my lab work which was current). Red Flag #4. When it was time to get my annual bloodwork done, I called to get a test added to the lab order (I found out about a test that could tell if you had a genetic disposition for blood clots - my dad died of a DVT). I was told by the front desk that I needed to make an appointment. When I asked the front desk to ask the doctor about it, she confirmed that I needed an appointment. My resolution was to skip that test and go ahead and get my blood drawn. Red Flag #5. As my international trip to India and Nepal was getting close, I called to get prescriptions for an anti-nausea and antibiotic "just in case" as we had discussed during the initial meeting. Guess what? I was told by the front desk that I needed to make an appointment. When I asked the front desk to ask the doctor about it, she confirmed that I needed an appointment to discuss CDC guidelines. My resolution was to wait until my annual and visit an expensive travel clinic that would be much more knowledgeable about international travel.  Red Flag # 6. After my annual and after my international trip, I called in to get a prescription refilled. Guess what???  I was told by the front desk that I needed to make an appointment. When I asked the front desk to ask the doctor about it, she confirmed that I needed an appointment. I called again when I was almost out of medication, I told the front desk that the situation was "b*llsh#t", and that I had been in 8 weeks prior and my lab work was only 9 weeks old. She refused to connect me to a doctor, so I tried to use their portal to make the request to the doctor directly. Dr. Marquard told me via the portal that I verbally assaulted the staff and was terminated from the clinic. This was not a huge disappointment as I had already researched, found, and made a future appointment with another primary care doctor.  Note #1. All this occurred in a period of less than 8 months. Note 2. I saw another provider (NP - nurse practitioner) other than Dr. Marquard for my annual. I can't find the name as my access to the portal has apparently been terminated. I remember that a PA signed off on the visit (also a red flag???). So, patient BEWARE!!! I highly recommend finding another clinic if you value your time and money. If you choose to go to this clinic and see these practitioners, make sure to get prescriptions filled and lab work orders in hand before you leave their office.

She stays current on medical advancements and changes in her field, and I am very confident in her competence. I also appreciate that Dr Gregorio listens and explains things clearly. Another thing I really love is that office staff actually answer the phone at Estrella Internal Medicine and Geriatrics - a rarity these days! Thank you, Dr Gregorio and your awesome team! Wow, people do not appreciate my doctor for the excellent physician she is. So since I was a…read moremedical office manager and a professional medical transcriptionist for more years than I care to think about. I know a good physician when I see one. So I am writing this review, as I find it hard to believe some of the negative remarks I have read in reviews of her office. So I want to put some things straight. I am retired. TYG (Thank you God.) I think I need to explain some things. Doctor Gregorio is an Internist who specializes in medicine for the aged. That is what Geriatrics means. Not every physician specializes in medicine for the aged. I am 69 years old. I know old when I see it. I don't want to see a pediatrician. Although, kids and old folks have different requirements than your run of the mill adult, and react differently to medication. There are a few medications that I took for years and can no longer take because of the changes in my body, and my body's chemistry. Dr. Gregorio is more likely to know all of that kind of stuff and takes really good care of me. Plus, I have a complex medical history and I have some complex medical issues, most seniors do. To give you an example, I live in a senior community and I listen to people talk about their medical problems and how long it takes for them to get an appointment with their doctors. The average is 4 to 6 weeks. Guess how long it takes me to see my doctor, as long as it is Monday through Friday between 9:00am and 5:00 pm, and I have a problem, I get in my car and go to her office. She told me she is my ER between those hours. If it is after 6:00pm or Saturday or Sunday, to go to the ER, they will get a hold of her. I feel that this is a workable solution to all of my medical issues. She also has referred me to some excellent physicians in other specialist fields. I have several. They actually seem to talk to each other which also makes me very happy, medically speaking. There is something else she does, she teaches medical assistants and nurses, yes she does. Good physicians are not "Doc in the Boxes," and as far as answering medical questions she prefers face to face not on the phone where things can be misconstrued or misunderstood. I happen to agree with her. So, if her phone is busy or they don't answer on the second ring, she takes walk-ins if you are already her patient. What that means to you folks who haven't seen her yet is you have to make an appointment for your first visits, you might even have to go in twice for that first visit because she will probably be wanting some blood work and other fun things like that so she can get a base line on your medical needs and she will want to talk to you about it. So, if the office cannot answer your call on the second ring stay on the line they will get to you, and if you want my opinion, and even if you don't, you should wait until they get to you on the phone. I sleep better at night because she is my doctor. You would sleep better at night too if she were your doctor. Last and not least of the things I read, "She should get off of her lap top." Sorry I had to laugh at that. She will never be able to do that. You no longer have a paper chart folks, your medical records are now in that big computer in the sky. Why you may ask? Thank your government for that. It is now all EHR that stands for Electronic Health Records, she is writing her notes about your office visit, she does a good job of it, some are still struggling with that. There are some advantages and disadvantages to EHR. Remember hurricane Katrina, New Orleans was under water, and all of the medical records were destroyed due to flooding, all those medical records are gone. EHR go to a server that may or may not even be in the same state as you and your doctor. So don't worry about her and her lap top. She is entering her notes while it is fresh in her mind, just like she used to write in your chart, as a matter of fact she is typing in your chart. I just thought I would explain that.

ZERO stars!!! This place is a fucken mess. I have been going to this practice since they took over…read morethe 19th Ave and Missouri office that was formerly Just 4 Kids with the AMAZING doctor Phillip E Gear! Let me tell you this has been the worst experience. This place is ONLY about money and NOT patient care! Dr. Carlos Lopez is in the wrong business. You cannot take an oath to care for patients and ONLY want money money money! They let go their best manager Karen and hired back Sujey who has no experience in patient care and satisfaction. Every time I call it is a gamble if I can even get someone to answer let alone if it is someone who speaks ENGLISH. I have gotten a woman who has answered in Spanish and when I ask who I am speaking to after specifically asking for an employee they will disconnect OR tell me call back and still disconnect the call. If I call for a simple question about myself or my child I am always greeted with you need an appt. This office doesn't seem to know what triage is and refuses to answer general questions without making you schedule an appt. WHY? It's just another way to bill insurance and collect MONEY! Today I called for a general question and SUJEY answered I asked for one of the 2 employees who are the only competent ones and was told she was out. I then asked for the next one who she then stated she is here and what is your info. I gave my name ans stated I was not calling for myself. She then just placed the call on hold. Didn't tell me she was, didn't respond to what I said, didn't say anything just simply placed the call on hold. I then waited 4 minutes! The call was then picked up and then the phone hung up. No one spoke but I could clearly hear the phone picked and just put right back down. I then called 3 times back to back and NO ONE answered. They have caller ID so I know SUJEY saw the call and chose to ignore it. I then called the Thomas office which rerouted to Missouri. Andrea picked up and was PROFESSIONAL and assisted me and heard my long ass rant about the sorry ass manager. Of course Santoyo wanted to book an appt for my daughter and refused a triage call. So now I am waiting for a telemed that has been scheduled for tomorrow! Dr. Lopez you need to do something about this practice. If you truly care about your patients you would take triage calls and not require EVERY patient be scheduled. That is absurd and not patient care especially when it is a general question and nothing more! But You find any reason to bill even false billing when no one was even seen but you still submit to insurance for payment! Beware people!
