I couldn't believe my lucky stars when Robert and I confirmed Felicity Church for November 11, 2017.
I had never planned on getting married in a "church". My dream was to marry on a beach with my toes in the sand or surrounded by beautiful flowers in a garden pungent with the scent of blooming jasmines. With the wild inconsistency of New Orleans weather, plans change.
More to kickstart my venue hunt, I booked viewings at a number of places as well as Felicity Church in the summer of 2016. While I've enjoyed beautiful weddings at The Elms Mansion, Latrobe's, and Rosy's Jazz Hall, I wanted something different as most any bride would.
Felicity Church hadn't been an official venue for that long, and I had yet to go to any events in the space but had seen great pics on Instagram. Owner Chris Jones greeted me when I arrived. I think I even told him that church weddings and New Orleans traditions weren't my bag when I walked in. He enthusiastically told me the history of the building and about how his wife, Jessica, and he renovated the space (even showing me the lovely stained glass window in the ladies bathroom). I loved how much HE loved the space with its authentic architecture and thoughtful updates.
I fell in love with it all. The way the colors of the original stained glass windows were painted on the altar's wooden floorboards, the perfectly distressed staircase, the intimate courtyard strewn with lights...the fact that both wedding and reception could all be held at one lovely place. I was sold and looking to book.
Unfortunately, I was big on equal opportunity, and my fiancé wanted to peruse a handful of venues before pulling the trigger. As we were led through other spots told by owners and sales managers how our wedding would go because that's how it had always been done and that we'd have to use their in-house catering chock-full of "authentic Cajun/Creole cuisine", I realized it wasn't just the venue I appreciated, but the openness there was to Robert and I making our wedding our own.
We were so happy to have booked this space for our special date. Chris was always quick to respond to any communications and help with any logistical needs including table/seating arrangements and getting on the same page with our vendors.
The venue has so many wonderful nooks and crannies to add your own flair. You can go big or be budget-minded, and the space will still look amazing. I loved that we were able to say our personal vows one minute and shake it with our band Where Y'acht the next on the altar after Chris and our vendors transformed the upstairs.
While I could continue to gush about Felicity Church and my wedding, I think y'all get the point. Chris, with his wonderful enthusiasm and professionalism, can help you make your special day everything you hope it will be at Felicity Church! read more
