We (me, my best friend who helped set the event up, and my pup who you all may know as Marcel from…read moreprevious posts) attended a Singer-Songwriter Showcase at Green Kill this past week. I wasn't positive I was going to make the trip to Kingston but I couldn't be more thrilled that I did and I can't wait for the next one - I'm even offering to get involved so as to have one sooner rather than later. This Singer-Songwriter Showcase focused on A Night of Original Music from NY-based singer-songwriters, and we can only hope the next will be as fun and inspiring. Even Marcel sat up to watch and then closed his eyes and let the music wash over him. Artists who played included Kyle Miller, Ami Madeleine, Lorkin O'Reilly, and Sandrine. Keep your eyes and ears open - this is truly a special place.

Although my family had tried for so long to get services from the Office of the Aging (since 2021)…read moreand couldn't because they said she "just didn't qualify" when my mom felt she was ready to face this business this past February having been 64.5 yrs-old, she asked for services. They told her that they were accepting her and gave her a rundown to a tune where we could tell that they were about ready to say "What was keeping you so long from joining us?" (although it wasn't directly said, but inferred by tone only.) One of the services she uses from them is their meal deliveries. Although the meals come every weekday (with another box holding weekend meals frozen by about Wednesday or Thursday), the meals have been quite a surprise. Though our menu calendar was never received this April, what's always surprising is their use of wheat bread. Now, we don't eat wheat bread - but they seem to pile on the wheat bread like it's going out of style. We counted about 20-25 slices of wheat bread a week - enough to make bread loaves that we don't eat! We don't want to discourage them from handling these meals, so we've never called them on it, but it's astounding just how dense this location is with this wheat bread. Try to use either rye or white from time to time - or for those who can eat raisins, try cinnamon raisin bread. Meals themselves are meats to a consistency that most of us may or may not recognize, though the milk cartons, eggs, juices, and the like are the best pieces of the meals. We don't generally come to the center - my mom had a stroke in 2020 and has been homebound since, and on top of not having a car or money to travel to the center, this center's calls make things dually necessary - though only sometimes do employees follow through with returning calls. For services rendered - free of charge for seniors - they do come promptly but there's always something with getting them to schedule a visit to help with filling out a form

This mansion sits on the campus of Bard College but you wouldn't know it. It's a massive expanse of…read moreland with incredible trees (black locusts and others) and impressive views of the Hudson River. It's not unlike Boscobel but without the crowds. It's $10 per adult and you could spend all day on the grounds at no cost. It was interesting to see the mansion with exterior painted lines intended to create the illusion of cut stone. It's akin to Lyndhurt's faux interior. The tour was no more 40-45 minutes. It's worth the ride.

Books booze and…read morebears The Clinton Library is a small but charming and nicely decorated place that manages to do a whole lot within the relatively tiny area. A bit cramped and crowded like most small libraries but it becomes cozy rather than annoying because everything is so well organized. A very pleasant children's section takes a up a large part of the library and like many small, local libraries it feels more like a play room than a place to learn. Cool stuffed animals and colorful posters makes it a relaxing environment. The librarian was not only friendly and knowledgeable but actually gave us a tour of the little library and the town hall connected to the library. The type of person that is perfect for the job of small town librarian. While we were there the library was having a fund raising sale of items donated by local merchants. Bottles of wine, cool hats and other local and things not usually seen in a library filled a shelve near the entrance. Just added to the charm of the library. Certainly not a place to do some serious research or find some rare of unusual book but the Clinton Library is a very cool place to relax, read, look around or talk to some very nice people.

This amazing venue is not to be missed! It is the birthplace of the cement industry for the Hudson…read moreValley and features the original mines which can be toured. These are called The Widow Jane Mines. It is a lush expansive property with so much to explore. There is also a museum and super cute shop with everything you can imagine and all proceeds go to maintaining this non-profit landmark. And if thats not enough, there are live events such as musical performances, theater.... The town of Rosendale is a very special place already, but this is certainly the highlight!

Meadows creeks and…read moreeagles The Clinton Nature Trail is a short but very cool trail located next to the town hall and library. Only about a mile in length, it was the work of eagle scout David Foote and some of his buddies. The trail meanders through the woods until it reaches Little Wappinger Creek and then doubles back. The cool thing about the trail is that the scouts also made a informative map that is available at the start of the trail. Along the trail are markers and you can look on the map to see information pertaining to that particular spot and the different plants and trees are named and identified. A lovely little trail, especially in the fall and winter. A wonderful little place to get a bit of exercise and learn about the local environment.
