My family of 4 husband 2 teens and myself visited Federal Grove for a special dinner out for Valentines weekend. It's about one hour travel and after the snow from earlier in week wanted to allow plenty of time not knowing what roads in Auburn area might be like. Luckily the drive there was mostly interstate and parkway so they were in good condition and no trouble to get there. It was a beautiful sight to see the Inn lit up on the cold Kentucky winter night. Next time we might plan a day trip so we can see the property. We had arrived about 20 mins early for our reservation but were pleased to be seated right away. Being an historic home the walk/aisleways to our table were a bit tight but we had plenty of space at our table and were a safe distance from the dinner guests at the table next to us iwas also pleased to see the other guests were a variety of couples and families with children didn't feel we were out of place with our whole family. This was our first visit here and having checked out the menu options in advance we ordered the family style all you can eat option. It gave us the chance to sample more dishes and seemed to be the best value. We chose roast beef, fried chicken and country ham. All the entrees were great, we each had our own favorite. I personally loved the slow roasted beef. It was so tender and had a great flavor. We were a bit disappointed with the chicken option being boneless tenders rather than on the bone but it was still tender and delicious. We all loved the cheesy ranch potatoes. The rolls were Sister Schubert we think but still hot and good with meal. Green beans were only lightly seasoned and could have a bit more flavor for southern style green beans. Husband and oldest son really loved the turnip greens. I would have liked to tried the broccoli slaw but the others weren't interested so I'll have to wait til our next visit. I've always enjoyed sweet iced tea but they offer a special fruit tea that I was so glad I tried. It was wonderfully refreshing and I've been craving it since our visit. The waitress was very attentive and helpful though being our first time we might have benefited from a bit more introduction to the menu and surroundings. We'd eaten light all day in anticipation of this evening meal so we were all very hungry. The food came out to our table very quickly. Our requests for refills on meat dishes and sides came even quicker. Though we were all too full for dessert, we wanted to give the maple banana cake a try so the four of us sampled one piece. There is also a small bakery and gift shop that we could not get out of without purchasing a homemade chocolate fudge pie to take home. Our check was of course higher than our average dinner out for the 4 of us but this was a bit of a special occasion about $30 per person including tip. This place was a special dinner experience and we look forward to going again. read more

Beautiful place with lovely service and southern comfort food. We had dinner which is served family style and consists of 7-8 different dishes. Welcome to the south people! Federal Grove is small quaint restaurant located off Highway 68-80 in Auburn KY. This particular night the restaurant meat of the night was catfish. The meal started out with a helping of mayo slaw or broccoli slaw and rolls. This was followed up by the main course a dizzying amount of sides including green beans, Mac and cheese, cinnamon apples (which are not the desert but could be counted as such), mashed potatoes and squash. The meal also came with 2 extra meats skillet fried chicken tenders and country ham. After devouring that I was greeted with maple banana cake which exploded my taste buds and was the perfect icing on the meal! A must stop venue and I will for sure return to this shining jewel in Kentucky's landscape. read more

We were there on a Thur. Decor was very country , soft and comfy. Waitress was more than friendly. You only get choices of drinks. Food is family buffet style. They bring enough for one helping for everyone at table. Then you simply ask for more of what you want. Chicken and rolls where my fav. Both Cole and broccoli slaw were fresh and good. Baked apples were almost a dessert on third own. Country ham is always good. The roast wasn't my fav. I was not a fan of the sauce they put on it. Mashed potatoes and Allen's type green beans completed. Dinner. Was all good however the dessert was worth the trip. MAPLE PECAN BANANA CAKE was amazing don't leave with out it. read more

Wow! This place is beyond my expectations of fine southern dining here in KY. The story that the house, the owners, the staff and the grounds tell is unmatched. The rich history only adds to the luxury of this charming southern establishment. Walking in you feel like you've entered your grandmothers home and are greeted as such. There isn't a bad seat in the house nor a bad culinary offering. This is a great way to get out of BG and see the beauty that southern KY has to offer. read more

I love visiting where I'm from. This is the first place my whole family and I make sure we eat at together. The staff is incredible. The southern hospitality in this home made out of a restaurant (yes I mean that) is something I've never found any where else! The food is delicious. The best part is that is just keeps coming! There is so much to pass around and they even give you a couple of Togo boxes. Rare. The tea is awesome as well. The sun was shining through the window and my grandma was upset. The waitress already knew what was going on and was ready with paper to cover the windows for her without us even having to tell her!! She always kept an eye on our table. Not one persons drink ever got low! For as busy as they were, we really felt like we were the only family here. We sat at one huge dining table that literally seated all of us. It was in the dining room part of the house I believe. Everyone is family here and it's so nurturing. I will keep returning here as often as I can. Check their Facebook for specials! read more

My food was OK, but my husband really disliked the meatloaf. He said no seasoning. Waitress was helpful. Dinner napkins need to be replaced. We had cotton ones that needed ironing. I suggest purchasing cloth ones that can be washed and dried and that do not wrinkle. Dessert was delicious. They brought our friend a free one for her birthday. read more

Federal Grove B&B was an excellent choice for my wife and I to stay. We were visiting a friend at a nearby monastery. We arrived Friday night and the check in was a breeze. There was a wonderful warm welcome by Terry. We stayed in the room with the king size bed. There was plenty of space to spread out and relax. The house is very old and offers a cozy and historic experience with beautiful decor throughout. It's a very clean and well kept establishment. The restaurant on the bottom floor is amazing! Family-style dinner and all you can eat. The food was outstanding. In the morning the breakfast was promptly served at 8:30am and it was also all very delicious. The bacon and pancakes were my favorite! It was nice to meet and get to know the other guests during breakfast too. Terry, thank you for running such a wonderful bed and breakfast. I will forever remember my first B&B experience as an extraordinary time thanks to you. We definitely look forward to our next visit! read more

We visited FG for a family member's birthday. The building and grounds are beautiful and picturesque. We sat in what felt like someone's bedroom. We had catfish, chicken, and ham. The meats came with a broccoli salad, coleslaw, corn, green beans, potato salad, rolls, and corn bread. Everything mentioned was very good. Country cooking at its best. Stopped here for lunch after being advised at the shaker village this is the place to eat. I had the meatloaf and green beans and my husband had country ham with fresh creamed corn. Lunch came with hot yeast rolls. Everything was delicious. The fruit tea was worth the drive. read more

I have went to Federal Grove twice for their evening dinner on a Friday or Saturday. The service is wonderful, the service staff are friendly helpful and very outgoing. The food is second to none , you will enjoy your meal you will enjoy the atmosphere. It is a casual dining experience that is also a family dining experience.
