My personal physician noted that I was probably suffering from depression after my job loss and pending divorce. He wanted me to see "the best" psycologist in the area, one that he knew and had an outstanding professional resume and many years in a successful practice. Dr. Powers has been recognized as an outstanding psycho-therapist by her peers and has been honored for many years by her appointment to and service on the Clinical Faculty of the Stanford Medical School. She is now an Assistant Professor Emerita. She has been in practice for over 30 years. I called Dr. Powers for an appointment and spoke directly with her. Being over 65 I was very pleased that she accepts Medicare in full payment for her sessions. I made an appointmet for the next week at a time convenient to me. I have seen her once a week for almost year. She agreed with my Doctor that I was depressed, so in addtion to our work together I saw a psychiatrist for appropriate medication. She has kept in touch with Dr, Powers. I feel priviledged to be Dr. Power's patient. She is kind, concerned about me, understanding, and accessible. She has shared with me how my thoughts could affect my moods, how to change the way I was handling stress, and how to acknowledge my feelings and needs, and to express them productively. My experience with Dr. Powers has been extremely positive. I am more in control of my life than I have ever been, and, I have a new job! read more
