Worth (literally) every single mile of the journey
My partner completed his DAS with Fastrak Motorcycle School earlier this year and had such a positive experience that he signed me up for my own training a couple of months later. Now that I've passed too, I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions either of us made.
First of all, Pauline, Gus and Alex are a fantastic team. They each have their own style and approach to teaching, which means you get a really balanced learning experience rather than being taught the same way by everyone. More than that, they're just good people. The banter is always good, there's always a joke flying about, and they make the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable, even when you're having one of those days where nothing seems to be going right. Gus even manages to make terrible dad jokes almost seem almost funny (which might be his most impressive achievement - "ya roaster").
What really stands out, though, is that the team don't just care about getting people through a test. They genuinely care about the person sitting on the bike. The training is completely person-centred. You're never made to feel like you're being pushed through a conveyor belt just to get a pass certificate at the end.
I actually had a rocky start with my training having never been on a bike before. But they trained me in the best way possible: to get comfortable, enjoy riding, build confidence and fall in love with the experience. So that's exactly what I did and it made me a much more confident and capable rider, earning me a licence.
Safety is at the heart of everything they teach. They don't just teach you how to pass Mod 1 and Mod 2; they teach you how to think, ride and stay safe. That's actually the number one reason my partner wanted me to learn with Fastrak. Like a lot of families, mine were pretty nervous about me getting a motorbike, but I can honestly reassure them that I've learned from people who take safety seriously and who genuinely want their riders to come home safely after every journey and develop good habits, rather than an ability to just follow instructions.
The biggest compliment I can give Fastrak is that we travelled a 222-mile round trip, or 111 miles each way, to train with them despite having schools much closer to home. It was worth every single mile.
Thanks Pauline, Gus and Alex. I'm a safer, more confident rider because of you, and I'll always be grateful for that. Join you on a breakfast run soon or see you at ABR Fest!
