Most recently, I was spoken to in a tone that felt condescending and unprofessional, which was upsetting and completely uncalled for. I fully understand that this is a high-stress environment, and I always try to be respectful in my interactions. However, I believe every family deserves to be treated with courtesy and dignity--especially when advocating for a loved one's care.

Four years ago, my mother passed away alone at Alcott Rehabilitation Hospital during the COVID-19…read morepandemic. On the morning she died, around seven a.m., I had a vivid dream where my mother warmly embraced me. Feeling something was wrong, I immediately called the hospital to ask about her condition. They told me only that she wasn't doing well, giving no details. It wasn't until around two-thirty that afternoon that the hospital called me back, saying she was close to death and urging me to come quickly. When I arrived, I was devastated to find my mother had already passed away hours earlier. Her body was cold and discolored -- she had clearly died that morning, the same time I had the dream -- but the hospital lied about the timing. The staff's cold and indifferent behavior added to my grief. I was forced to wear full protective gear just to see her, and a nurse coldly asked, "When will you remove the body? We can't keep it here long," showing a shocking lack of respect. Later, after I shared my experience publicly, the hospital director apologized, but then personally threatened me, saying that if I ever posted a similar review again, their Regal team would come after me. Alcott Rehabilitation Hospital failed in both care and compassion. Their negligence and callousness caused our family unnecessary pain. If you truly love your parents or loved ones, never entrust them to such a hospital -- a place that treats people like this is no place for a human being. I share this story to warn others and demand accountability. Families deserve honesty, empathy, and respect -- all of which were sadly missing here. ************************************ Update (in response to the facility's public reply): After I posted this review, the facility left the message asking me to contact them privately. Let me be clear -- I have no desire to speak with you privately. Everything I experienced is written right here. If you truly cared about accountability and compassion, you would've acted when it mattered -- when my mother was alive, when she was dying alone, and when I needed answers. And if your plan is to do what you did last time -- pretend to apologize just to lure me into the facility, sit me down alone in a quiet room, and then threaten me with "your legal team coming after me" if I ever speak up again -- don't bother. That experience was terrifying and deeply disturbing, and I haven't forgotten it. I will not have any private discussions with you now or in the future. I'm simply telling the truth about what happened, and I won't be silenced by fear or intimidation.

We choose Montecito precisely because of the reviews on yelp, so i understand how important these reviews are. There is a Kaiser doctor and Kaiser case manager permanently assigned to this facility. For those with Kaiser - this is a very big deal. They helped coordinate my MIL's care with the rest of her healthcare team; and when she needed to go to the hospital for a doctor's visit, an mri, or other procedure, they arranged the transportation. The facility itself is in the middle of getting a new paint job. I think this will help with the ambiance. There is a heaviness that weighs you down when you are here, and we left before the paint job was completed, but in general, the facility is clean. The room assigned for actual physical and occupational therapy is too small for the amount of equipment and the number of patients who use it at the same time. A room will have multiple patients in it, and the bed you get is shielded for privacy by curtains that they pull around your area. Each patient gets a tv by the side of their bed, a beside table, and a small welcome package that includes no-slip socks and a toothbrush. The food they cook is prepared onsite. It's not a michellin star'd restaurant, but kudos to their chefs/cooks who prepare these meals for all the patients because i think it meets it's basic need. The staff at Montecito were mostly friendly and competent; but Montecito is ***extremely*** short-staffed. ** This is the largest basis for my loss of stars in this review.** There is a hierarchy to the nurses, and the ones at the bottom, it seems, are those who have the most patient interaction. They are the ones who do all the grunt work - they make the patients' bed, they bring their food, they help patients to the bathroom, they clean up patients... Maybe the facility spreads these employees too thin, but there were multiple instances where my MIL, or other people in her ward, would call for help because they needed to go to the bathroom or be changed, and an hour would pass without help. I am not kidding. It really gets to me how many times this happened. You can walk out of the ward to ask for help, and there are a bunch of i guess higher-level, higher paid, nurses sitting around the Nurse's Station just chatting. And they just tell you that they'll send someone over. One especially upsetting incident happened when i came by and i found my mil sitting in her wheelchair by the bed. She'd been wheeled in from her physical therapy, and had been left there for almost an hour. She really needed to go to the bathroom, and ended up puking on herself because her stomach was so upset. My mil finally got to the bathroom, got cleaned up, and got settled in bed, but i can't begin to share how upsetting this whole experience was. And no- i didn't complain because i don't know what kind of retaliation my mil might have gotten. I'm uncertain if other facilities have better staffing or if this is a problem with all such facilities at this price point. But my point is that we were unaware what to expect. I hope that this review sheds some light and helps you.

The other person working with Crystal, Ed Hahn, gave me completely misleading information that led to another few days wasted on a patient who does not have much time to waste. One said the patient was accepted, the other said he was rejected. They also need to be empathetic to people whose relatives are sick, rather than give attitude over the phone for no reason. I'm nearly 66 yrs very young and had to call my son to call them to immediately get me removed back to Cedar Sinai Hospital. They didn't have my necessary meds, including and most importantly, my heart meds. They treated me like all the other poor patients stuck there, probably no family to either not willing to get them removed or perhaps they have no family. I'll be reporting them to the Obsbugman organization for nursing home care and all other organizations. It's deplorable. Best thing I can say is the food looked delicious however I refused food. No call light for buses or phones for patients without cell phones. An elderly woman was put in my room while they were working on the A:C in hers. She was trying to get help for over 2 hours, so I finally screamed help for her. They replied to her needs like I heard them reply to all of us. " Now dear, you're fine. Calm down. The young Physical therapist that came in was a doll. He tried to help me with my request. That was to get me the fuck out of there. My cell was nearly dead as my charger mysteriously disappeared. Thank god I had about a min left to call my son hysterically crying telling him that they won't let me go. His phone call was the only reason transport came within about 3 hours to get me out. I heard whomever took the call say to ? In the hallway, " what do we do? Her son just called and reined holy hell down on us if she's not transported out immediately!" Their 3 hours was immediately and I was completely and mentally exhausted & sickened by that short experience for days! And it takes so much to put me in that mindset, that I've actually never been in before! Don't put a loved one there for any reason unless you truly hate them and don't give a shot about where you put them. Zero Stars
