I have to admit that we primarily stopped by El Cucharón because it was one of the few places in…read morethe area that still had dinner service after 10 pm. Actually, I think it might have been the only place with dinner service at that time. ;)
Outside looking in, the restaurant/bar does not look too inviting - especially because there was not anyone inside of the restaurant and the bar is a bit dark. However, you just gotta power through and make your way to the HUGE patio in the back. Although El Cucharón is not the most touristy attraction, I thought it provided a nice taste into the realness of Santander. The bartender/server was super nice and very inviting. The vibes of the restaurant are super low key and VERY relaxed.
Since the restaurant has a huge grill outside, we decided to go with a couple of hamburgers and fries for our meal. Yes, very American of us, but it seemed like burger and fries were the easiest thing to order at 10:30 pm. Boy oh boy, those burgers were super huge especially because they were served with a large beef patty, two eggs, and bacon. Also, the fries were AMAZING. I think the folks at El Cucharón brine the fries in a salt water mixture prior to frying them. These fries probably were the best fries that I have eaten in a long time.
Although I would not travel from city center to El Cucharón for the sole purpose of having food and drinks there, I might have to make this one of my regular spots while hanging out on/near P de Altamira.
