We visited this market recently and really loved the energy of it. There are the traditional tents…read morefilled with fresh fruits and veggies; but there are also tents with beautiful clothing, luggage, handmade items, etc. I'm traveling the world with just a small backpack, so I'm not doing much shopping these days, but the food items I bought were fresh and delicious. I loved that everything was put in paper bags, not plastic. I read that the market has been around since the 9th century, which I loved knowing. A short walk down the hill brings you to beautiful neighborhoods with cobblestone roads and the huge cathedral. It's a lovely area overall.

You can find everything from brilliant pies (Raven's Den in particular), awesome cheese (Lincolnshire Poacher and others), fresh veggies (Earthworks and others), fresh fish and meats... not to mention cupcakes and other sweet treats! We usually start by getting a coffee for the husband from the vendor with the mobile coffee bar (the machine is in the back of his van), and then wander the markets and end at the Merchant for a cup of tea for me. As long as there is a rainbow biscuit on the way even our toddler is happy.

I went in 2 different times: saturday at 3pm and wednesday at 10am. Two completely different vibes. I tried the famous sandwich from the black pig, viral chocolate covered strawberries and bread ahead. Black pig - the best one sandwich: it was AMAZING!!! I was a bit scared to get this since i was by myself but let me tell you, it was not heavy as i expected it to be. Just delicious overall and would totally recommend. Chocolate strawberries: I love strawberries and chocolate but definitely think you can find cheaper alternatives anywhere in london. Bread Ahead: my new favorite pastry place. I pretty much got a donut from this place (not this location) everyday because the black currant cheesecake donut was that good. I got the tiramisu and crème brûlée donut which my brother liked and i wish i could've tasted them before they went bad but anyways, I would totally recommend the donuts from here! Their chocolate chips cookies are HUGE and delicious as well. This was probably one of my favorite markets!

Peterley Farm was an important part of my childhood and it still is! Pick Your Own farms should be…read morein everyone's lives because it is so much fun and great value too. You feel like a hunter-gatherer trotting along with a few plastic punnets in search of strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, spinach, peas, carrots and many more. I am not condoning it but it is virtually inevitable: a significant proportion of delicious fruit doesn't make it into the punnet and takes a little excursion towards your mouth. This is part of the fun. I distinctly remember us coming across a humongous duck-shaped strawberry the size of my child-sized fist and it being one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. All the legally obtained fruit is weighed in the farm shop (for cheaper than at the supermarkets) and you can also buy a much wider range of organic fruit and veg, honeys, vinegars, bread and eggs, even organic freezer meals. Next door is the garden centre brimming with flowers and hanging baskets. Now there the new summer Wild Strawberry Café in a charming yurt, decked out with higgledy piggledy chairs and tables, pots of herbs, mismatched crockery and a distinct Great British Bake Off feel. The food was excellent with a tasty lunch menu and an extensive range for brunch. We got a pulled pork burger, crab cakes and a courgette frittata, lemonade, elderflower cordial, and freshly pressed apple juice (with a range of different apples to choose from). The crowning glory of this meal was the meringue and passionfruit curd cake. I am going to go great efforts to attempt to replicate this cake because it was so good.
