The Jeffersontown Farmers Market was such a great treat last weekend!…read more We met some family who live in Jtown at the farmers market and ended up staying for an hour or two taking in the booths, enjoying the people watching and grabbing a breakfast sandwich from Sunny Acres Farm. This farmers market has about 20 booths, selling a range of items. There were artist booths, as well as ready-to-eat food, baked goods and produce. My mother-in-law ended up buying a couple watercolor paintings from one artist. We also bought some dog treats, pears, breakfast sandwiches, bread and desserts from an Amish farm and a small squash that my toddler son carried around the whole day like it was his new best friend. One thing, though: While my dog loves the treats we got her, the sellers were a bit much, blocking our path so we would engage with them. Others might not respond well to this. And those sandwiches from Sunny Acres Farm -- they were just what we needed. This farmers market also had live music, a nice touch. I very much look forward to coming back and stocking up on even more great finds.

EVERY TUESDAY (MAY 8TH - OCTOBER 30TH) 3:00 TO 6:30 PM (for the 2012 season). Check the website for more info in the coming spring. This past Tuesday I loaded up on the last of the season's heirloom tomatoes (or tomAhtoes, whichever you prefer) as well as some fresh greens and pumpkins of course. Between this farmer's market and Bardstown's on Saturdays I can find literally anything I will be needing- seasonally speaking. This market features live music (usually performing after 4pm even though they open earlier) of a local artist. The last time I went there was a FREE CHILI COOKOFF tasting. SEVEN chili vendors from local restaurants on Market St. It was delectable. Picture curiously sampling warm, reddish brown saucy goodness by the spoonful (seconds were also free) with some free ice water and bright yellow, moist jalepeno cornbread to cleanse the palate between chili's. I have spoken to at least three farmer's at this market as well as an awesome bread baker. She has ultimately the best bread I've sampled of late (and I'm a huge fan of bakeries, just not their calories) due to her unique flavors. I've tried the Hot Chocolate Jalepeno Zucchini bread, the Cranberry Cantelope, and this week's- Blueberry Lemon with sweet icing on top. The best part about this market is the LOCATION and the TIME (Tuesday's are uber productive for me now that I can do this in tandem with mass that evening when the weekend get's too hectic). Parking is in the same lot as the market which puts this one ahead of the rest in regards to availability. Prices are average for a local market- four bell peppers to a pound and $3 for a pound; $1.50 for a pound of locally grown apples (VERY inexpensive considering the crop year that we had due to a late frost in the spring); and SMOOTHIES for $4 made will all local ingredients (minus the strawberries at this time of year). Didn't see that one coming did you? Yes- I enjoyed a watermelon, cucumber, peppermint smoothie (NO ICE- the watermelon was pureed and frozen so it wasn't diluted)- just add gin... I mean, whipped cream? By Sweet and Savory (soon to be food truck in February). Overall, I have tried this market twice and plan to return. The farmers are nice (and cute if you're into that kind of produces his own food thing ;-) ), the food is quality, affordable, parking is excellent, and music is usually strumming. I will be sad when October ends.

It's right across from the fire station (kids love fire trucks), in the church parking lot. Dogs aren't allowed so bring a friend to hold her while you shop. You can eat your breakfast together at one of the tables right there at the church outside of the Farmers Market. Parking is available on the street or across the street at another church. It's a great place to hangout for a bit, let the kids explore, eats farm fresh, literally, breakfast, get some great goodies for the week, and RELAX (it's the weekend). This Farmers Market is large enough to give you everything you need or want, and small enough to walk around and still keep an eye on your kids or quickly find a friend to compare your treasures. I love the breakfast omelet, the music is always good and sometimes really, really good. And the people are always friendly and fun. I walk there, but it is worth the drive, and then you can walk around a bit!

I was fortunate to try both their dinner and breakfast menus. For dinner, we had the taco salad and the chicken salad leaf--my husband and I shared both dishes, and honestly, they were equally outstanding. Maybe it's the farm-to-table freshness that makes the difference, but everything tasted vibrant and thoughtfully prepared. For breakfast, we shared both of our platters again. Everything was excellent, but the standout was the biscuit and sausage gravy. I normally don't even like that dish, but I ordered it based on the reviews--and I'm so glad I did. It was easily the best version I've ever had. And I can't forget the peach cobbler. You need to order 2 hours in advance. Even the left over is delicious.

After…read moreseeing the sign and driving by the tents for a few weeks in a row, my son, mother-in-law and I finally stopped by. This market had about a 10 vendors, and while this wasn't overflowing with vendors, they had a lot of the farmers market bases covered. We saw meat, veggie, flower, candle, snacks and drink vendors. Foxhollow Farm, Field Day Family Farm and Berserker Coffee were among the vendors. All of the vendors were very nice and eager to talk about their products. A couple even gave my son free flowers, which he was so excited to carry around until he pulled all of the petals out. :-P We ended up coming home with a couple bouquets, pulled pork, burnt ends, peaches, lettuce and microgreens. We will be back in the coming weeks and are excited to see this market grow.

Depending on the day there may be more or less vendors set up, but I feel like there's always a great variety of items. You can typically find food stuffs, produce, jams, candies, coffee or tea, and more at this market.
