Gibson's No Frills - Bait customers in with beef on sale that is never stocked

Gibson's No Frills

So I wanted to voice out the bait sales items I experienced at this Nofrills. The beef round was…read moreon sale, so I run in on the first day of sale so I send someone from my house to get it, the come back home empty handed (after driving, dressing up for the cold) . I asked where's the beef? None in stock. Where's your rain check, So they run back in to get a rain check- no rain check issues because it's a limited stock item. So I went in again on Tuesday to see if it's in stock, that's two days before the new flyer comes, still no stock. So I asked around and they tell me "maybe." Well someone has basically travelled three times to this location and the limited stock item seems like they just had one in stock to validate advertising the item on sale BECAUSE ITS NEVER IN STOCK. I did tell one of the nice employees, this is unfair; I am just one person what about the family of four travelling with babies all to do a run in because no daycare on weekends going through all the effort to buy this on sale protein only to find out it's just a bait to get a customer in to buy a regular item on sale. This is the same as the sticker promo that ran from 2024 to Feb 2025, where every purchase of $20 got you one sticker and a full sheet got you a steep discount on pots and pans- but when trying to redeem no store had it in stock. I remember that promo, I went all the way to Collingwood checking for it in stock. Gibson, you gotta stop baiting customers in with items that will never be in stock, gas is an all time high, inflationary costs are high that it's just cool to play these "games." Anyone else manage to get the on sale beef in your city?

I was just yelled at, and my partner assaulted, by an insolent employee at Gibson's No Frills…read more(Franklin Blvd. in Cambridge ON) who took offense to me saying (exact quote) "for Christ's sake" when I discovered half of my shopping list from the store's ad was unavailable. (So much for plans for Thanksgiving dinner.) The store manager apologized, sort of, and promised to do practically nothing about a loyal customer being assaulted by his employee. We are seniors. My partner, who is a very tough woman, was chased around, accosted in her face by a non-distanced man (not a kid), yelled at and followed when she tried to walk away. She was pretty shaken. The manager promised he would report to the union, who would do practically nothing. He offered us exactly zero, in even assurances we wouldn't be assaulted again if we came back. Just a smirk and an acknowledgement that we probably won't come back to the store. (We have done almost all our grocery shopping there since the pandemic started.) I'm thinking there are a lot of places that appreciate loyal customers. This sure enough isn't one. The manager was smiling when he told us there were things (union process) more important than protecting the safety of customers. Says here, if a customer has been accosted and is frightened by an employee, and the manager says anything other than that this is completely unacceptable and will never happen again, it's the wrong answer. This manager gave a *very* wrong answer.

I seem to be on a mission to drop by every Zehrs in Cambridge. Last Saturday, I gave this location…read morea try. I learned that Hespeler is a neighbourhood in Cambridge and was a former town. When I parked in front of the store, I noticed a wooden picnic bench with Hespeler colourfully painted on it. I am always learning something new when I visit. I walked into the store. It has a single set of automatic doors to go in and out of the supermarket. I was here to get some baby spinach. I was pleased to see that a kale, chard, and spinach mix was 50% off. It was perfect for my quiche and green smoothies that I was planning on making. The produce section is amazing. Everything looked so fresh and nicely maintained. Naturally, when I'm at a cool grocery store, I get more stuff than I should. I ended up getting sugar-free raspberry lemonade kombucha. I have been told that it generally is low in sugar, but this one had no sugar in it. I have consumed it and it was delightful. There is an alternative pasta aisle. I found Daiya mac and cheese, and chickpea spaghetti. It also took me a long time to tear myself out of the chocolate aisle. The selection is mighty impressive. I also got an economy pack of Command 3M hooks. These days, I have been into putting them up for various things. As of late, I now have hooks for my face masks. The cashier that I had was helpful and nice. She asked if I needed a bag. I was fine carrying my few items in my arms. I paid with a credit card. Tap and done! There was another staff member helping a man with a question about sauces. I was trying to figure out where she was moving. She gave me an arm gesture that I didn't appreciate, as if I didn't know how to get past her. Um, maybe if you both were planted smack in the middle of the walkway, and were both blocking everyone from leaving the store, I would be able to figure out how to get past both of you. It was my only not-so-happy moment, which put a damper on my experience here. Otherwise, it's a cool supermarket with items that I like. (152)

The employees are all good people. They are friendly and helpful. However management leaves something to be desired. There is a new atmosphere of bullying employees and making them feel like useless crap. This store, this company in general seems to think that treating people like garbage is good business. I would never tell any one to get a job here for the sake of their mental well being.

Their cup supplies were not very well organized and it took some time to find it. We went through the grocery section and noticed that the prices are basically grocery store prices. There is no wholesale. If someone was looking for much larger sizes of things for a restaurant, they could certainly find it there. However, I found it expensive they have fresh produce which could be purchased more cheaply at Costco at the cash register. We were asked if we would use our PC optimum card and that's when we realized this is a grocery store with some restaurant supplies, one of the big things that should have triggered that thought was that there's no membership required. In terms of the staff, I found people very friendly, and the location is quite good. If I were just reading the staff, they would get a five star.

I'm not sure if this is the boom in population in the region of Waterloo from the increased foreign worker population brought on by the temporary labour shortage. In the last year, I've had non colour people constantly ramming carts up my backside, even when I go in during the low traffic time. If this is now a thing to rage against coloured population at the Costco- I would ask the patrons to stop and talk to your local MP if you're feeling like a minority. Frankly speaking, targeting people of colour is wrong;as an essential service worker in the region of Waterloo for over a decade and schooling in the region, this is unfair to punish and target by race. My photo shows the self checkout and a prominent coloured person hater who take great joy in ramming coloured patrons. Hate has to stop. I hope Costco employees can better manage and even step in to these matters.
