A Record Setting World Chicken Festival…read more It was a record-setting year for the World Chicken Festival, which continues to live up to its name. Now there is some reliable, but unscientific, data to prove that people came from all over the world to downtown London over the weekend to participate in one of the Southeast's premier fall festivals. Festival organizers conducted a poll Saturday night and found less than half of the visitors were from the local area. Festival organizer Rodney Hendrickson, with the London-Laurel County Tourist Commission said they found only 20% were from Laurel County. 44% were from other counties in Kentucky and 29% were from 14 other states. The furthest away being Washington, Idaho and Montana. Hendrickson said pollsters found people there from other countries, including a couple from Belgium, a lady from Belize and a group from Canada that comes every year. Preliminary figures indicate the 2016 World Chicken Festival set records in both attendance and revenue, driven in large part by good weather and increased sponsorships that enabled the festival to bring in a big-time entertainer like Bret Michaels on Saturday night. London Mayor Troy Rudder said this year's festival was a "game changer."
