The whole office is just wonderful. Super friendly staff at the front, lovely assistants, and knowledgeable doctors who really take their time with patients. None of the rushed in and out business. Each of my appointments were about 45-60 minutes long and I always felt so much better walking out. Cohesive team that works together for the sincere benefit of their clients and always accommodating with scheduling. It was a complete pleasure to get to know pretty much the whole office as I began my long-term recovery.

I got a recommendation from my PT to see Dr. Yau, and when I called for an initial appointment, they were able to squeeze me in immediately to check me out! After examining me and my x-rays, Dr. Yau determined that my knee wasn't broken after all, and recommended that I follow a PT regimen in order to speed recovery and minimize atrophy and loss of mobility/flexibility. Thanks to his diagnosis and advice, I got back to 100% and am now back to distance running and my regular workouts with no trace of pain or weakness. Dr. Yau was kind, knowledgeable, and you could tell he wants the best outcome for his patients. I always saw athletes in the waiting room, which is just another indicator that this is the place to go if you are active and want to have the best results.

But the lack of care i received here basically crippled me. I first saw Dr Yau (who didnt even look at my xray and just read the interpretation from Radiologist) then I saw Dr Thomas who left on maternity leave shortly after telling me to give it more time. Both dr's were NICE but didnt successfully treat my injury.I kept returning to tell them it still hurts and i am not healing/walking right and they kept telling me not to worry and let the broken bone naturally heal and keep walking on it in walking boot. Forget about running again. I am still in pain walking almost 2 yrs later. I went to another dr who said this injury needed surgery at the time. I am so depressed about how much this has affected my life and lifestyle.

He has some uniquely specialized skills and equipment which are of high value to me such as Redcord and the technology he has available at the Arthrokinetic Institute which allows patients to see their own muscles firing (or not as the case may be) in real time as they are working out, to facilitate the re-training of the brain for proper muscle activation as I understand it. He is all about helping patients move without pain. Dr. Walters is a Redcord therapist and educator which is the reason I sought him out in the first place. I am fascinated by my work with him using the Redcord Suspension System of kinetic chain testing, corrective exercise and neuromuscular activation for injury prevention and performance enhancement. This is a 5-star review (but I want to give 10 stars) of Dr. Brooke Phillips at Hayashida Physical…read moreTherapy in Goleta, CA. If you know anything at all about myofascial pain syndrome, or MPS, it's this: if you suffer from it, you just want it gone. (I had endured it in my neck for over two decades.) Maybe you've tried physical therapy already with little to no results. Or you've been attempting self-manipulation techniques such as a Theracane or a foam roller. I now use these tools for maintenance in addition to physical therapy because no one technique could achieve what Dr. Brook Phillips has done for me in a relatively short period of time. In January 2025, Dr. Amit Nathani performed a reverse total shoulder replacement and bicep tenodesis on my right side. Both of these procedures were highly successful, way beyond my expectations. However, taking into consideration my age of 67, and this not being my first joint replacement, coupled with Rheumatoid Arthritis and a lifetime of bad posture, the recovery from this has been absolute hell. I'm now at 10 months post-surgery. I fully intend to reach '100%' again, but I can't say when. I still have some weakness. Recently, I pushed it too far and had to stop everything completely, but the therapeutic devices. Dr. Brook anticipated my needs and pain relief goals not only in the hands-on therapy but for post-therapy management as well. I'm positive that without his excellent care, I would not have progressed this far so successfully. When I say "so successfully", I mean with so much reduction in the pain department. It literally improves every couple of days and rarely regresses. When I say "progressed this far," let me tell you what that really means: I now have perfectly relaxed shoulders, my back is straight, my hips are tucked in, and I walk with a normal gait. Before this, if you take every physical aspect I just mentioned and imagine it at its worst, that is what I had. And along with all those conditions came a lot of pain. But as Dr. Brook addressed my physical limitations and, one by one, removed them, I was able to restructure how I carry myself. And along with the lower back pain that was always in the background, and the painful left knee scraping that required injections, the punishing MPS- all of these painful limitations are gone now. And it started really with the therapy for the shoulder recovery, but he just naturally moved into addressing anything else that was causing me pain. You wouldn't believe how back pain affects other parts of your body! I am immensely grateful for Dr. Brook. You must believe me when I say I know physical therapy: I was in a devastating car wreck 40 years ago, and I've had a lot of PT since then. Recently, I asked him, "Are foam rollers new? Because with all my issues, why did no therapist ever suggest using one? It has helped me tremendously." He said, "No, they aren't new." Then he confessed that every therapist has a different technique... But I know what is really going on here. It's the DPT and OCS after his name that give Dr. Brook distinction and are the reason for my success. I went in for a bit of therapy after surgery, and ended up addressing nearly every other issue that was currently giving me pain. Being able to manage the pain with tools that I now have at my disposal is something huge for me. Thank you, Dr. Brook

This review pertains to the practice, not the therapist. My physical therapist is wonderful, but if…read moreI need PT in the future I will go elsewhere. The issue is administrative - Sutter dictates that you can only make two appointments in a row instead of scheduling further out. The problem is that very often there is no availability. My therapist has instructed me to return weekly, but, for me, half the time the appointments end up being every two weeks. That has made it more difficult for me to meet my treatment goals - the therapist says we will add something new next week, but it ends up being two weeks later. That not only means that it takes much longer to complete your treatment, but the long gaps can lead to a less successful result. Update: I found this note in my Sutter chart: This patient got all rude as soon as she couldn't get an appt when SHE wanted. She is non post op and doesn't understand why Sutter Health has a policy of only 2 appts at a time when SHE needs to get in. She said she wrote a bad review about our practice and will continue to talk bad about our practice, but not the therapists. She is very unhappy and says she will probably look elsewhere. It is not like it was a matter of my convenience and I insisted on mornings when they offered afternoons or I wanted a Monday and they offered a Tuesday. I was trying to comply with my therapist's instructions to return weekly - it had nothing to do with what "I" wanted - but it is true, I don't understand why they only make two appointments ahead. I have had lots of PT over the years and they have always scheduled multiple appointments at the start of treatment and sometimes even all of the appointments for the duration of the treatment plan. In addition, I absolutely did not say that I talked "bad" about the practice. What I said is that I could not recommend it to others because of the way they schedule appointments. I stand by that opinion, and I should I need PT in the future I will absolutely seek care elsewhere.
