Notting Hill and its aura of manicured money and square buildings maintained to cream perfection…read more There are so many boutiques servicing this area and for the most part are very very glittery ... -Then there is the boutique " Couverture". This beautiful boutique with its several floors feels like a mix of homely style with good quality, vintage detailing and a dash of quirkiness. All the products feel handpicked and handmade. Products range from children's wear to home pieces. Wooden floors, wooden hangars and wooden vintage furniture mixed with new collections all create a general look - as if from a different era. They also carry lots of labels - Sigerson Morrison "belle" shoes - which I am a big fan of and downstairs is the men's shop called "The Garbstore" with more designer lines. A total united vision - everything looks as if it should be there -and somehow relates - not easy with so many products but done in such a more-ish way

I only came across this shop last week, already I think I am a bit obsessed. A mix of men's,…read morewomen's and children's clothing, shoes and accessories, concept products, toys and furnishings. The pieces featured and the designers are less well known, making them more unique and slightly different to anything else on the market. I love the large, spacious yet homely layout of the shop. However, the prices are Kensington prices, the only cheap thing I found in the shop was a £6 child's ring but when the identical ring is being sold for 50p in my local sweet shop it is not really that cheap at all.

Brought to you by the same people who run the boutique, Aime, next door, is a store dedicated to…read moretots. This place is definitely for any mother/Francophile as all the labels they carry are appropriately French. They also carry a fabulous array of unique stuffed toys together with the most charming gifty trinkets (think playing cards and games) - also in French, so your babe can get a head start on being bilingual. The interior is completely white, almost stark, but it's punctuated by the colourful clothes and other items - which creates a quaint feeling of cheerfulness - there is nothing pretentious-feeling about this place, there's something too-casual about it for that. The women who run it are French and very lovely... more than willing to try and scout out a certain size for you in the back if they think they have it.

I have visited this store for the very same reason as Robin, for getting baby related gifts. If…read moreever you need one the Ledbury Street is good for that purpose as there seems to be baby wear boutiques one after another. All with very upscale looks makes also very suitable for impressing parents. It would be hard to pick the favorite shop but I would say that Petit Aime wouldn't make to my top three. The clothes are pretty and petite, but I am just slightly annoyed by the fact that everything is in French, like the books and cards. I do love the language but giving that as a present.. rarely works. It just gives you a slight pretentious feeling.. The shop itself is fun looking and colorful, with playful and cute interior.

I…read morestill love the vintage-inspired fabrics and accessories and will come here on my search for unique (well, not quite so unique considering how many branches there now are, plus online shop, etc) gift ideas. I buy a new design of oil cloth almost every year as they make perfect table covers for kitchens and outdoor dining. The designs are girlie without too being too kitsch or too sickly. I have discovered many designs which reminded me of my grandmother's kitchen - nice to unearth them for another generation. If you have the choice I would recommend visiting the shop during the week rather than on Saturdays when the whole area is teaming with tourists.

I preferred the quaintness of the location in Clarendon Cross compared to that of Portobello Road (a little too busy for me), but nonetheless it's only roughly a 10 min walk from Notting Hill Gate Underground Station, and along the way you pass some pretty pastel coloured houses and small vintage clothing shops. On entering the shop, they sell everything from homeware, childrens clothing, accessories and women's clothing downstairs.
