So I went with them based on what Tina and Rob said. Well, as other people have said "that wasn't the case". I lost my butt. I had forklift attachments that should of brought between $1,200 to $1,500 each and only got $5. Same way with brand NEW Z-28 fenders and hoods in boxes, they brought between $22 to $30. I had over 500 items and about only 23 people showed up to pick up there items. That should tell you something. Most people buy and sell. The people that were here told me that they would never have this company or there sister company Coast to Coast auction company do an auction for them. Was told by the buyers that you are better off being a "buyer" since there auctions dont bring top dollar as it should. Below is what you should know, 1. They charge high fees to do your auction compare to others. Pay up front. 2. $100 to advertise, they do not show you where that is other than Facebook which is free. 3. They dont have open house for people to see what there bidding on. 4. They bunch up your items and sell in bulk. 5. They dont know how to advertise expensive items, meaning not taking items out of boxes even though I suggested doing so. 6. If your items dont bring anything and you decide to pull them off since they aren't doing there part in advertising. You get charged with a high fee for them to pull it off the auction.

The regular bi-weekly Thursday night auctions, as well as the scheduled estate sales, always have a rollicking mix of items.... all jumbled together. A Chippendale chair might be auctioned just before or just after a pair of old golf shoes. You just never know! I'll bet there's not a lot that the Masseys haven't sold over the years! With the recent scandals at Ivey-Selkirk, it's hard to find a good auction house in the area, but the Masseys are doing a great job of picking up the slack without taking the fun out of their jobs. They like the upscale estates, but aren't averse to selling old farm equipment or store liquidations, either -- they just good-naturedly tackle the job at hand, and put on a really good show while doing so. The audiences are a hoot, too. You see a LOT of local antique dealers looking for bargains, lots of toothless Fagin types and hairy ZZ Top wannabes, and everything in between. Doesn't matter who you are or what you look like, though, because the Masseys like everyone, whether you're a bargain-hunter, an antique dealer, or an upscale collector, and they make it a point to entertain. Even if you aren't buying anything, it's fun just to watch the sale! That said, I've gotten a lot of magnificent pieces of furniture at Massey Auctions; some of it just reasonable and some of it for a song. I've also gotten caught up in the fun and gone home with a few nonsensical impulse buys, but that's one of the hazards of going. Don't go to one of the Thursday night auctions expecting Sotheby's. These are rapid-turnaround events held at the Maplewood American Legion Hall ... but just because the venue isn't tony doesn't mean there's nothing good for sale! The Masseys are honest, too, so if something is a reproduction, they will say so right from the outset, or if they aren't sure of the provenance of an item, they'll tell you that too. Come prepared, because the sales are cash- or check-only. You should go! You'll have a great time!
