Great find, the meal was perfect - I was looking for casual elegance, having nixed the idea of taking myself to the 1 Michelin star restaurant down the road.
Why am I alone? Traveling with two bros who are getting on my nerves & I'm sick of eating cheese sandwiches & no vegetables. We're in Italy for gods sake- mangia bene!
The restaurant is next to the river, located in the ground floor of the Faloria Hotel.
During the day there's a nice outdoor space, first thing you see inside is a very hip looking bar, not the typical 16th century grotto. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
I was feeling all that today after buying some ridiculous shoes.
So, the food. Exactly what I wanted, a healthy meal with vegetables.
Things started out a little weird. My Italian was just bad enough to not understand I was sitting in the bar lounge & not the dining room. (Never assume everyone speaks English, you arrogant American :). Ordered water con gas, which arrived in a giant bottle, & the waiter set down what looked like a bag lunch for someone else. She didn't come back so I opened the white paper bag to find an assortment of bread. Guess it saves everyone time, cause you're gonna want to take it home.
Meal:
Bread encrusted trout with endive & aubergines. And then an Insalata piccolo. So tasty. They give you bottles of balsamic & olive oil. I never figured out how the salt & pepper combo grinder worked.
Then I sat there a long time until I figured out I pay at the bar. The trout was only 17 euros, which in San Francisco wouldn't even cover eggs, bacon, potatoes & coffee.
Me time! I deserve it. read more
