I love this museum. I always have seen houses like this, on the hill, and always wondered what they were like inside when Fall River was a busy mill town. I found the house warm, almost cozy with the velvet and dark colors. The house is in very good shape and it is clean. You get to see all the different rooms, living room, bed room, dining room etc. There is back staircase that the servants used. The other treasure about this museum is the gift shop. I found the gifts unique. Lot of special Christmas ornaments, but other gifts also. Outside the house the grounds are well kept and well designed. There is a fountain and the garden has a circular design to it. It is not substantial enough to travel from afar to visit, but if you are in Fall River, or near, definitely take the tour. read more

WHAT A GEM!!! Hit this museum after seeing all the positive reviews and it did not disappoint. Our tour guide was more than happy to provide a thorough history of the area and answered all of our questions. I learned so much from this museum. So much to see and so many stories. The house itself is gorgeous! I had no idea that there were so many artifacts from the Lizzie Borden trial housed here. We visited the Borden House later that day and as far as actual artifacts, this museum has them all, not the Borden House. If you are interested in the Lizzie Borden trial at all, come here! I also enjoyed the circular dining room and the clothing exhibit upstairs. I highly recommend this museum to anyone visiting the area. It is a treasure trove of information! Also worth noting is the museum gift shop. Fantastic selection of merch. Literally something for everyone. I loved how the gift shop extended upstairs and included items for the bath. My favorite find was the Lizzie Borden paperdolls, complete with the outfits worn at the trial! Solid 5 stars. read more

What a gem! After visiting many historic homes in my life, here and abroad, I can say without a doubt that this is a simply spectacular example of Victorian architecture. I highly recommend you come visit. If you're even the slightest bit curious, you'll gain a fascinating insight to the history of the home as well as the entire area. My tour guide was patient and generous with her local perspective and historical knowledge. From the home's family origins, its custom furniture and rare paintings, to the stories behind each room's (massive) themed Christmas tree display, my mind was slightly blown by it all. The place was not only visually stunning, I also learned a great deal about the level of wealth acquired from the textile mills that helped define the area. I see others have commented on the gift shop, so I'd like to add my thoughts. After my tour, I was shown the shop, which led me to believe that they were gifts there. No surprise. I was surprised, however, to find that this is no ordinary gift shop. It's more like a multilevel store with cozy little rooms filled with really unique items. Sure, they have some museum gift-shop staples, but then the ornament collection, specialty chocolates, and artsy apparel I found were both affordable and good quality! I'm now looking forward to trying the Tea Room. I just moved to the area. I'm from New York originally. And while I'm not in Kansas anymore, as they say, or Boston, Providence, or New Bedford, the profound appreciation I gained for Fall River from this one brief tour of this one grand house left me happy to call FR my new home. read more

The guide was informative, but the museum itself was very limited due to the second and third floor being closed for renovations. The major turn-off for me was that it was the first time in a museum, and I have been to the Breakers and Marble House in Newport, Linden Place in Bristol, and the Lizzie Borden Museum, where I was not allowed to take pictures "for insurance reasons." I would say that for the price of admission, that you would be much better off going to the other places that I have mentioned. read more

For my mother's birthday, my sister and I took her to High Tea hosted by the historical society, and we could not have enjoyed ourselves more. The victorian home where the high tea is hosted is quaint and cozy. The waitstaff (all of whom are volunteers with the historical society) was kind and attentive, and answered all of our questions about the history of the home. All 3 courses of the high tea were delicious but the gingerbread and date scones were heavenly. Most importantly, my mother continues to rave about her birthday high tea and says the experience made her feel like royalty. After our high tea, we were given a tour of the historical society which was beautifully decorated for the holidays. The highlight of our tour was the elaborately decorated Christmas trees, which the curator and staff design each holiday season. My family and I will be making high tea at the historical society an annual tradition during the holiday season and I cannot recommend it enough! read more

We had a great experience. The guide was knowledgeable about both the Lizzie Borden case as well as the house itself and spent about 45 minutes or so talking through the exhibits. The Lizzie case was presented factually vs sensationalized at the house. The house is an amazing and mostly original example of the gilded age, high Victorian architecture. Very cool! read more

Just a review of the gift shop and it was very nice, better than one would expect. Many small rooms packed with all kinds of cool stuff, nostalgic candy, books, kids toys, Lizzie Borden stuff. Not really a destination stop but if in the area its worth a check out. read more

Beautiful, fascinating house museum, typical of wealthy 19th century mill owners. House made of granite, beautiful gardens, many artifacts including some Lizzie Borden ones. While there, stroll Rock St from the old high school to the crest of the hill. You will see many amazing historical houses and churches. Neighborhood of Highlands also home to many additional historic homes. Exceptionally good gift shop. read more

Terrific place to visit. Don't waste your time at other sites. If you like history or Lizzie Borden actual memorabilia, here's the place to go. The house is awesome with the rounded doors, secret compartments for dishes, little extras that you can't even get now. The place comes alive with the experienced and dedicated people who work here. Our guide Bob was so good with us. We had alot of questions and he could answer them all. He has more insight on Lizzie than we got at her house tour. (which we did enjoy). He told us every picture and the stories behind the people, buildings, relatives, and more. I feel like I grew up here and knew all the families. Great gift shop that is Christmas all year round! Definitely go. I will when I'm back in the area. read more
